Alberta Election May 2015
overthere replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Neither are they a big deal. from 1994, 14 years of surplus followed by 6 years of deficit. None of the deficit years are of major consequence. If Prentice wins, he'll pull a Klein out of his colon. Klein turned deficit into surplus and eliminated the provincial debt , all while oil was around $20/barrel. If Notley wins, and she won't, she'll turn moderate deficit/debt into some serious numbers that socialists can be proud of. Alberta has a lot of ground to make up to catch Ontario and BC when it comes to debt. BC is catchable with four years of NDP in AB, but AB will have to pull out the stops to get close to the champ Ontario. The interest on the ON debt is about the same as the entire AB debt, Go Rachel! -

Turn the page on that calendar Grandpa, 1934 is over and turn down the Woody Guthrie tunes, the times have changed. Labour and safety standards are now available to every worker by legislation. Am I expected to reward the unions work of 3 generations ago by overpaying their members now? Why? None of their members alive now sacrificed anything for anybody but themselves. And speaking of 'a perpetually lousy economy' is just silly. This country has never before been remotely close to as fat and prosperous as it is right now. These are the good old days. Try to enjoy them, or you can keep shouting 'get off my lawn!". You pick 'em, -
You're going to hurt your brain with this relentless bipolar stuff. Do you want the great Satan Harper to help poor people or not? Oh wait, is he sending the money to wealthy people in Iraq?
-
Harper is to blame for everything. Maybe, just maybe, Syria was a failed state long before we had much to do with the place.

Wildrose has a landslide happening according to all the polls. It went completely the other way a couple days later. IMO phone polls have become useless and unreliable 15 times out of 20. -
Store Owner Responsibility For Unattended Children

There are abortionists prowling the LEGO stores in the US? Thanks for the tip! -
I guess that is why they gave Babcock the Olynpics head coaching job the last two years. Hitchcock was an assistant both times, and no sign of McLellan. Yes, because McLellan has better players and a better team, yet did worse in the playoffs than Babcock. Thanks for helping me out: Detroit made the playoffs despite having an old team riddled with injuries and using many young and untried players to get to playoffs and come within a whisker of beating Tampa. There isn't one GM in the league who would trade Detroits roster for San Jose, yet babcock has had more success. Babcock is the Gold Standard for coaches, Maclellan is one rung down. I'd put Quenneville nearly on par with Babcock, and Hitch a rung down.

It is not easy to find driven, hard working and extraordinarily competent people who are willing to take a huge cut in income and the relentless personal abuse of public life. And those people certainly exist- I know several very rich business people who would make great managers of the public purse. And isn't that the basis of good government- getting and spending the taxpayers money in the best and most efficient ways? They may be able afford to work for nothing, but they refuse to submit to the daily personal humiliations that come with public life. -

Hilarious. Unions fight for the benefit of their paying members. Period. -

You are easily impressed by sketchy sources. I suggest you never, ever speak to religious recruiters on your front doorstep. Mainstreet Technologies is owned and operated by two Liberal campaign managers and lifetime political hacks from Ontario. Don't believe you've quoted the polling equivalent of The ONION?. Check the Mainstreet Technology site for the names of their principals, and Google those. Their numbers are worse than meaningless, they are intended to deceive and look who bit. -

What exactly in McLellans record makes you like him a lot? He led San Jose to some OK results in the regular season, but his playoff record in the NHL is very poor. Outside that, he has one one trophy as head coach- the Calder Cup If players and coached do not succeed in games where they keep score, on what basis do you judge them? Participation medals? Good intentions? Yep, but he has also had teams of pluggers, including this year when his team was mainly from the AHL. I assess Babcock as a great coach because he has won at every level he has coached for his whole career. He did not always have Hall of Fame players..
-
The major reservation about Hitchcock is his age. He is 63. That is kind of ancient in the NHL today. I'm not sure about McLellan. He has not won a lot of games that matter as a head coach in the league. Babcock is the Gold Standard Coach, globally . As a head coach he has won a Stanley Cup, World Championship, 2 Olympic Golds, a CIS championship and a W#orld Junior. Nobody else has done that. Surefire Hall of Fame stuff.

It is insulting and patronizing baloney to suggest that trades workers 'can't handle the academic workload'. Many trades have academic components that would crush the average university generalist graduate. For just a few examples.... do you have the geometry skills to build a roof or even a simple set of stairs? How about fabricating from metal as welders and macnisists do? Ever see what instrument techs do? It would crush the intellect of the average uni grad. Let us compare the consequences of error for an electrician or journeyman aircraft maintenance tech with a business grad..... Employers in Canada are already involved in curriculum development for the trades. Dummies drop out and sell weed. Lots of intelligent young people opt for the trades and those numbers will increase it is apparent that having an undergrad degree with no applied skills may generate a fine career as a barista, but won't allow for a rewarding career.

Babcock, Hitchcock and McLellan all on the 'looking for jobs ' list. Mmmmmmm

Snow Removal is a Core Service right?
overthere replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
If the snow is not being removed according to the contract, then the management and enforcement of the contract is a performance issue by the civil servants tasked with that duty. If the contract scope itself is inadequate, the responsibility for changing that is also with the bureaucrats. -
How should Parents discipline children
overthere replied to WestCoastRunner's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
My observation is that babies spend more time successfully training their parents than the other way around. In days they can get their handlers to feed them, cuddle them, change their diapers and many other things- on command and without delay. -
another Truther, perhaps the first Senate Truther ever...... "Global stage"??? LOL

Alberta Election May 2015

I'm curious to know how you would define the political and economic status in Alberta. -
One likely and outcome from this trial, and almost certainly reinforced by the Auditor General Senate audit coming soon- there will be more widespread support for abolition. Making that happen will require provincial agreement that will be nearly impossible, but at a minimum there will be an administrative reckoning.

I truly hope your heart won't be broken soon.

I don't think opportunities are given as such. I reckon they are at least partially created. And very often they are not recognized and are lost for that reason.
