BC teachers in court as province appeals decision
overthere replied to cybercoma's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
They got a mandate to govern, a strong one, and that includes doing things you don't agree with. Too bad for you. No, the Supreme Court does not make laws, where do you come up with this gibberish? Unelected court officials do not make laws in Canada. The Parliament of Canada makes laws. The Supreme Court may and does interpret laws enacted by the elected government, but the day they make it is the day democracy has departed. -

Evidence is information presented in court by a witness. If you have some of that, post it. -

Sona Sentencing Hearing Underway

There is a direct link between Sona, MIke Duffy and Senator Brazeau. It involves the Zionists. I cannot say more and be safe. -
There you go, moving the goalposts again: you don't need to know my gender for others to know that you are a misogynist. There is no conenction. Not a nice try at all hater. and you do it yet again here. Once more let us be clear- the next election will be a choice between Trudeau now and Harper now, not Harper 1990 and Trudeau now. I know you hate that, but no amount of your wishing otherwise will make it so. That reality is why Trudeaus handlers will be publishing 'serious' books- to build some, any kind of CV for your plucky lad. I don't blame them, what else is there? But give us all a break and stop pretending otherwise.

Sona Sentencing Hearing Underway

Careful now! That sort of talk about robocalls cost Pat Martin a lot of money and stature within his party. -
and my point is that operating a taxi without taxi insurance would be wholly unacceptable to any insurance company. If it isn't why do actual taxis bother with the extra expense for their insurance? Insurance companies(not brokers) are cheap and vindictive. A multi million dollar claim will be very closely examined with the purpose of avoiding paying. They do not care f their actions cost them the loss of that client, it is a trifle compared to the cost imposed or negotiated after they wear somebody down. I can think of two (both friends) in the last 2 years that involved contested claims , one a serious but not lethal motorcycle accident, the other a garage fire with about $40k damage. I also had a neighbour in the 90s who had a really serious accident that killed two and badly hurt two more including himself on the way to work at a minesite. The insurance company tried very hard to pay nothing and interviewed or tried to interview all his neighbours. They were keen to know how this carpooling worked, his drinking habits and much more. And they were very persistent. He eventually settled much later, during which time he got no money at all, could not work and basically lost everything. Do ya think he was treated fairly when negotiating from a position of complete vulnerability: sick, broke and threatened? They knew from day one they wouild have to pay, but how much depended on how far they could grind this guy. They are scum. The fire was instructive. The adjuster(who of course works solely for the benefit of the company while purporting to help the customer) simply refused to ascribe the proper value to the things that were destroyed. The company made repeated offers at about half the loss. My friend realized what was up and hired a private adjuster for a flat fee of $500. The guy wrote one letter advising he was now representing my friend. Three days later a registered letter claim came with a cheque for $40k. The day after, a letter cancelling his home and auto policies and a small refund on premiums paid. Every time you get insurance, a standard question is' have you ever been denied or had insurance cancelled?'. He has to answer 'yes'. Now it is hard and expensive for him to get insurance.

I see you continue to fixate on levels of perceived testosterone in others. And no, of course you don't need to know the gender of another to be a misogynist. What does teaching drama have to do with gender in WallyWorld? Based on your apology I am going to guess that in real life your name is Paul Calandra. Did I nail it? Yes, we get the idea. You want to compare Trudeau today with Harper circa 1990. Unfortunately, that won't wash with anybody. The correct comparison is Trudeau today with Harper today, and The Hair is going to have to flesh out that CV bigtime to float that boat. Hey, maybe he could write(with some help for the hard parts) a book!
-
Thanks for the assumption that I'm a man, Mr Misogynist. I hope you don't degenerate into homophobia or accusations of pedophilia. I'd likely read a book by Harper or Clinton written from their lives filled -now- with actual experiences and demonstrated competences to inform their opinions. But that is not what this is about, is it Wally? Trudeau is in desperate need of some shred of gravitas to fill that enormous crater in his CV, so why not fill it with some recycled wood pulp? His handlers know that, why is it you don't? Comparing the work experience of Harper today with Trudeau today just cannot be a Liberal talking point Wally, so consult your Blue playbook for alternatives.

If Brian Mulroney had stayed on for the 1993 election?
overthere replied to windyman's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Good post, there are certainly multiple angles. A large surplus does not necessarily indicate excellent management, it may also indicate overtaxation. Sound fiscal management in a time of surplus must always contain an element of debt repayment, not just servicing of interest costs. In good times, what I'd like to see is a balanced budget, with a specific amount of debt repayment. In tough times, a balanced budget with no increase in debt and existing debt serviced. The 800 pound gorilla that is rarely noted is interest rates. Chretien gained big advantage on debt service costs from declining rates through the 90s, an advanatage enjoyed by govts of the last 20 years. There will be a reckoning if they increase, which is forecast by many. -
If Brian Mulroney had stayed on for the 1993 election?
overthere replied to windyman's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The reason Mulroney quit before the election is he knew without any doubt that his party was going to get pulverized. Better to quit and have some poor schmuck like Campbell take the heat. -
somebody giving me $20 for gas is nothing at all like being dispatched to take a stranger from A to B for a specified fare plus tip. And having personally witnessed insurance companies working very very hard to avoid paying- forgive me if I do not believe they'd pay for damages to anybody when you kill everybody on a 'casual' Uber dispatch. They'd fight it to death.

You are enjoying the benefit of the current system right now, in a deluxe social contract. You can bury that next to the oil in the ground. Maybe you're sick of decent health care, educated children and rule of law, but count me out of that equation. Life is full of hard choices, but I can promise you that choices get really limited and really ugly when you have no money. Of course, you probably have some good ideas on how to replace the cash. I have time to listen.

Good post. Uber can argue all they like about license issuance being unfair, but in the meantime they do not have the right to issue those licenses themselves to themselves. I'd love to see the number of safe, properly insured taxis on the road quadrupled, but I agree that Uber will fail in their argument. They are a taxi company with slightly different technology.

I do not agree. I have commercial auto insurance and I am most definitely not allowed to carry passengers for hire. I am allowed to carry people in the normal conduct of business, as long as that business is not carrying passengers for pay. And nobody sane doubts the willingness of insurance companies to deny coverage in the event of a major accident.
-
based on the fact that franchise retailers cannot afford to sell fuel for less than they pay for the fuel, not for more than a very short time. They cannot buy fuel anywhere except from their brand, and cannot sell for more than the standard markup because nobody will buy from them, so effectively their retail price is locked down too.

For the Leafs( and Oilers) proclaiming or forecasting a losing season is the default prediction. Now stating a winning season after 2 games- that takes real courage or more likely an unmedicated mental problem.

Unfortunately that knowledge is a state secret. Do not answer the door no matter how hard they hammer. -
Wally has retreated to his Chretien Shrine in the basement for inspiration.

It is not 'sharing a ride'. Sharing a ride is when your work buddy drops you off at home. Calling for a car coming to pick you up and take you to a specific destination for hire is not sharing a ride, its a taxi service. Uber is the latter. It needs to be regulated for personal, public safety. For example, ordianry car insurance specifically does not cover carrying passengers for pay. That means in an accident the car and driver have no insurance on anybody. No thanks.
-
I agree. Some are owned by the companies, but they prefer franchisees for the reasons I stated. Nearly all the profit has been extracted further downstream with franchisees, profits can be manipulated on company stores. I do not agree that franchisees can really determine their own prices. That;s what they have to say publicly but the reality is much different.

2022 Winter Olympics: Is this the end of the IOC?
overthere replied to Boges's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
I'll answer myself: no the IOC won't like some piddly halfassed venue in the burbs for flagship events like track and field. Summer Olympics have new, flashy stadiums with plenty of luxe boxes and seats for Executive members. Or they are awarded to places who understand how it all works....
