  1. I don't know. It was your idea to begin with.
  2. If you don't like the insurability of transgender operations, you probably will get furious about Canadian health care funding abortions!
  3. Actually we-Canada- have had steady economic growth with relatively low interest rates for quite some time. Perhaps you were thinking of Japan, which has really low interest rates, little growth and demographics that mean it likely will get worse.
  4. Insulting and inaccurate, since resource development requires engineers and technicians with educations that exceed the intellectual demands of a teaching degree. Many trades take a level of problem solving, training and tech knowledge that is intense and requires constant upgrading. If you're a dummy dropout with poor grades, you aren't making big bucks.
  5. Coincidence? Yeah sure. I'm talking about Libby Davies announcement that she is retiring next year. Of course, that is suspiciously close to the time Mike Duffy goes on trial. Has anybody ever seen both of them in the same room at the same time?

You're trying to appeal to the gutter crowd I see.

Not suspicious, MP pension plan rules change after the next election.

      Big Guy

I used to wonder about the same thing with Superman and Clark Kent.

  6. You can add my congratulations to the province of Manitoba and their fine system. They train young men and women well. When they have finsihed school, they come to Alberta to work.
  7. 'Your prospects' already did that with their liberal arts degrees , and now they are serving lattes instead of repaying their debt to society. If I was a corporation, why should I trust them not to steal my money too? They already screwed taxpayers out of a bundle since their uni education in Canada was highly subisidized.
  8. corpses of people strewn around the street are also inconvenient. Take a cab, Grandpa. It's not always about you.
  9. Theory of Everything It's prime character is Stephen Hawking, but it is not so much a science movie. It is much more a love story and it is well told. Good date movie!
  10. Or just go somewhere else, where government and industry form partnerships with industrious individuals. Oh right, they're already fleeing Ontario. No need for us to do anything..
  11. Yes they know how to celebrate and no they were not chastised. It was not an incident at all, just a few of them extending the party onto the rink after nearly everybody had gone home. It was no biggie. The men appeared pretty incentivized before the womens win, they were undefeated and looked unbeatable. And in the end, they were both with perhaps the most dominant team in several decades. I would say they were proud of the womens mighty comeback win and encouraged.
  12. The minimum requirement for a physician is about 7 years at uni. The minimum education for a teacher is four. It's extremely competitive to get into and stay in medical school, neither is true of Faculties of Education. The coursework and stress and hours in Medicine are far more onerous. The consequences of error are much worse in Medicine. In reality, medicine attracts far more qualified candidates. I'll say it again: far more
  13. They already have them, the most common name is 'taxi'. I don't want a senior programming a car any more than I want one driving a car.
  14. Ironically, the author of the petition is a physician with far more (public) education than the OP. The 'discovery learning' program has been a flop in Alberta since it began a decade ago to much opposition. A decade ago, as measured by independent international rating body PISA, Alberta students overall were easily at the top of student achievement testing in Canada and near the top internationally. Not anymore, and the prime reason is the program Comrade Socialist touts all the time. Luckily, teachers are sabotaging the program from within, school boards are backing off, and Alberta Education is crumbling under the assault by angry parents. This crap won';t be around much longer.
  15. Honestly, I am convinced you do not understand the priority of completely reliable, consistent, affordable for the ordinary citizen, and the primacy ofplentiful electricity in a modernized industrial society. It's what allows us to live in this country. I have no problem at all with alternative energy sources as long as they address and recognize that priority.
  16. The military does this with professionals like engineers and doctors, but of course the worker is then required to lock into their military service for at least an equal number of years and be subject to all the usual military strictures and benefits.. You'd have no problem with mandatory longterm contracts at non negotiable rates of pay and the possibility of mandatory transfers for all skilled workers- for all employers?? That is an interesting proposition, comrade.
  17. With what? Every sane taxpayer in Canada, personal or corporate, pays the minimum tax required by law. That is called tax avoidance.
  18. All will be revealed when you need to know.
  19. No, lets let those Liberal Arts grads serving lattes(remember the OP?) make their own life decisions and accept both the profitable and less profitable consequences of both. They all had as a birthright the experience of 12 years of free education and another four years of heavily subsidized education. Everybody has to stand up on their hind legs at some point. Perhaps you've never had a job or been an employer. I've hired many tech school and uni grads. They all come with some skills for sure, but there is always a heavy investment in time and money to get them into a position where they understand the business at hand and are productive at their jobs. This particularly true of busoiness and IT grads. They cannot be expected to understand how their technical skills apply until they are actually on the job. And of course lets not overlook the fact that corporations also pay taxes, and some of those taxes go to...education of their future employees in public schools. And if they don't bring the skills with you you want the company to train them from scratch? Every company that employs an engineer has an engineering school in house? That might get a tad expensive. Did you want companies to recruit high school grads in high school and pay for their four year program at uni or elsewhere?
  20. 72% percent for Arts at U of A 2014, 70% in early 70s. Easily attained. Some faculties are competitive for entrance, not surprisingly these are often fields that have jobs at the end. "Thye" who is "they? The companies? They do provide a huge incentive for people who take the time to research employment trends, gain knowledge and skills, and graduate in fields that are required. It's called a job. Since when was skills not a commodity? You know, supply and demand determines pay and employability? Oh wait, it is always somebody elses fault.
  21. Education including biology is the responsibility of each province. What does it have to do with the feds?
  22. False. If you have reasonable grades, money is not an issue. Loans and grants are available to those who cannot afford the highly subsidized tuitions at CDN universities. False. The admission averages at the U of A, for example, are almost exactly the same as they were 40 years ago. This is a Stats Can chart of education trends in Canada. Even with a higher population now, the ratio of uni grads has shot up . http://www.statcan.gc.ca/tables-tableaux/sum-som/l01/cst01/educ42-eng.htm They clearly have failed by forcing so many high school kids to major in Anthropology.
  23. Why are laws required to enact this 'sentiment'? Why is the state responsible? The penalty comes from a life of bad entry level jobs. The reward comes with changing that. Most people recognize this and act to change their lives. I'd expect the supposedly intelligent university grad complaining of a life serving lattes to plumbers to be the first to recognize their own dilemma and act accordingly.
  24. 79.9 Edmonton today
  25. Well, Justin has to do something to fill the hours. He does not have any of those timesucking pesky duties, like running a country, so meeting Wynne fills some otherwise idle time. And hey presto, after the meeting he can list a long string of things he is going to do for Ontario. He cannot actually do any of them, but it keeps a certain class happy. Next up: Quebec City. Bring your shopping list!
