Say hello to Prime Minister Harper
geoffrey replied to politika's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Scriblett's onto the yield curve. I'm not concerned at all, we did well during the last US recession so I have no trouble believing our better monetary policy will see us through. I'm not too concerned about the interest rates, we are still below the norm, and inflation does need to be curbed right now (according to the Canadian way anyways). Another factor we need to look at is the horrible labour imbalance within Canada, which could lead to recessionary presures in the West. 15% (or whwatever) unemployment in the Maritimes, and under 4% in Alberta. Without enough people here to labour away, we are heading for a big stall in growth unless we can convince the Maritimers that they need to work. This is one of the biggest threats to our growth right now in my opinion. -
Hence why I'm considering it. I don't know if I have the patience for more school though. Thanks for the welcome, if any of the other locals don't want to run again, I'll starting making riding association friends ASAP. I've thought about it here, but being from Calgary kind of screws me for ever getting a nod within the area.

That wouldn't be un-reasonable, though losing your seat doesn't really help the vote count normally.

Prime Minister Harper Should Dismiss Frank McKenna

I don't want to sound like a braggart but .... NOT ONLY did I shake his hand once, he also autographed a book for me once. Why the hell was he "duck and cover" there? Did he and Stephen kiss & make up? When? Is he going to help Harper now? Boy, the two of them sure would be a handful for Ignatieff. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ignatieff defected and joined their team. Harper, Ignatieff, Manning ..... what a dream team that would be. He just didn't want to talk to the media or make a big statement or anything it seemed. He wasn't really talking to anyone. He also send on an interview this morning that he'd be interested in helping out the Conservatives. So go Preston. That would be a dream team, ethics from Harper and Manning, and stylish good looks from Ignatieffmania. -
Good for you to get out there and support a great candidate in Andrew House. A good effort is all you can do, there are some areas of Canada that just won't vote Conservative no matter how much sense it makes. It's tough to vote against a party that has supported that area which such huge social assistance that people no longer have to work in order to live there. I hope that one day the Maritimes will see the potential that we see in them. When this day comes, I'm sure candidates like Andrew will be winning in places like Halifax. But you deserve alot of respect for the effort you put in and I wish you better luck in the future. By the way, if I decide to continue into a Law education in the next couple years here, I might be coming your way to Dalhousie. You might see me out campaigning in Halifax next election.

The Canadian (Liberal) way.

I hope she runs and wins the Liberal leadership.

I figure most Canadians don't care. If the CPC show themselves as tolerant, and Harper makes a good case for his Civil Unions as a compromise (what democracy is supposed to be about), Canadians won't even give the issue second thought. It was a non-issue this election too. I prefer the Right Honourable Stephen Harper.

The real tradegy is that with the minority government, he'll have to keep the 'crazies' quiet. I personally enjoy hearing from people like Anders, Thompson and Hanger (who were all at HQ last night, Anders is halarious, he was dancing around in the foyer area, looked halarious). They'll have not only the backbench, but the back corner of the backbench if we hope to break into Toronto and Vancouver.

I think I'm going to need some cognac pretty quick. Martin's speech does sound better when you can actual hear it, this is first for him. Good for Martin though, however much he bottomed out his party and was a weak Prime Minister, what he did in the Finance portfolio was quite an accomplishment, and he deserves a ton of credit for that. Good people can even come out of the Liberal Party, sometimes. -
Nah, all the paper is burned already. Didn't you see the fire from where you are last night tml?

That beer was $6.00 last night and I'm still just rolling out of bed now, might even go back. There ya go, we will definately be a credible meanstream alternative. But I fear we are going to incur some 'Ignatamania.' Right off the boat yankee and people are ok with that, yet feared Harper for maybe having US ties. Oh my. -

He was right smack in the middle of the crowd during Harper's acceptance speech. Did you notice? The CBC camera got a second to a second and a half glimpse of him before some oaf in front of him stood up and obscured the view. I shook his hand last night, kind didn't want to distrub him because he was kind of duck and cover with the media. I was so happy to see him there, if only all our politicans had integrity like Manning. -
I thought Quebeckers were the strongest supporters of SSM? You have none of the NDP to fear, they just boot everyone out of their party who votes against it, and the Bloc seems about the same this time around.

Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal. Pogie dependant Maritimers. These create problems for Tories. I'm starting to think we'll have to sell ourselves short in order to win a majority. -
He started it.

Because gay 'marriage' is not freaking marriage. You can't redefine society to best suit yourself, there is set things that can't change. Canada needs to be tolerant of homosexuals, we need to give them equal rights and tax breaks and all that stuff that they deserve. But its still not marriage. That will never change. Marriage has been and always will be a man and a woman. I also personally believe it requires a Church. Marriage is a religious term. Civil Union is a tax benifets, death benifets, whatever else, term. I'm not married so I have no marriage of my own to focus on, and I'll instead protect an institution I strongly support from being further erroded by opening it up to, like I said, this, that and the other thing.

Thats the plan, I won't miss her sadly. I liked Alberta 70-something % support of the Tories as well. -
I'm ok with having people on average representative of the community. But Argus raises a valid point. You get these riding stormers that just all crowd around a like ethnic candidate and you end up with a very unrepresented majority. Last time I check that majority thing meant something in democracy? It's nice when minorities get represented and all that, but not at the expense of the majority population.
-
Whats your point? Just because you didn't need a paper to get married before doesn't mean that everyone can get married to this, that and the other thing.
-
Their rolling 3 day that is... their night before single day was off by a considerable margin.

SHE IS DONE...LANDSLIDE ANNIE...AU REVOIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You should have heard the celebration last night, wow. I think it was a bigger cheer when Annie lost than when we won. -
Quick bit of trivia -- when did Canada start issuing its first marriage licenses -- i.e. "the legal union of a man and a woman?" The Provinces issue marriage licenses last time I checked. And Ottawa has no business influencing the Provinces any more so than it already does.
