Aristide was cited for human rights abuses from a few organizations, including Amnesty International. I have no doubt the US has played a hand in the issues and have made things worse, but Aristide is no angel either. He is also an utter failure when it comes to advancing his country, which isn't suprising for someone that has more money himself than most of the country combined. Best defense of that counter-argument I've heard yet, well done. From the same point of view you could also easily justify the war in Iraq though. Saddam was extermenating Kurds and political dissenters and invaded Kuwaitt. I'm not going to justify one war with another though, as I'm pretty much opposed to wars unless necessary. Our economic power gives us our standard of living, not our ecological wealth. Rich countries have higher standards of livings, not ones that are environmentally sound or ecologically diverse. Protecting the environment is important (as I like to enjoy it), but basing society on ecology or what not seems silly to me. I say we eliminate our impact as much as possible, try not to intervene and go from there. Social capital is always subjective so I'd say you couldn't use it as an effective example of modeling a society. I think we can make a huge difference in the world using democratic capitalism, if people are given the freedoms to lead their own lives towards success.

Somewhat agree. This country is so fractured along racial lines that going to different places in cities is like going to a different country. We like to pretend we are all tolerant and caring, but generally that ends at the edge of White suburbia. I'm tell you I wouldn't as a white person walk into some neighbourhoods even in Calgary which I feel is about as safe as it gets coming originally from T.O.

Sorry buddy, its not the system. The Commie bloc did it too. Our system is better. We have the freedom to choose another if it wasn't so good. They don't, they are oppressed using tools like rape, kidnappings and torture beyond anything we can comprehend. Can you tell me when a democratically elected government was removed and replaced with a puppet regime? A real democratic government, just one example, more if you can provide it. Haiti. Both communism and capitalism are material based. Neither will be stable over long periods of time. And your proposal to end capitalism and communism?? Uh huh... riiiigght. And thats right, I forgot in democracy you can have roaming street gangs that beat your citizens into submission. How silly of me? Haiti is a bad example, Haiti has never been a free democracy. Oh and I just thought of another example. Hitler was elected too, next time you should argue we should have respected Nazi Germany's soverignty. I respect what you saying, but you got to be more pragmatic. I'm open to hear your solution to capitalism and communism though.

There are many elements to democracy reform. Senate reform Set election dates. Funding rules are some that I can see Harper implementing. I never saw PR as part of their platform so why would you think they would adopt it ? Couple things... NDP and Liberals already can form a coalition government. They can't because the Liberal party is in such disarray they can't even get themselves together (plus they have a $34 million dollar bill to pay, plus whatever they owe us from all they stole). The NDP are too good for a corrupt criminal organization, however much I disagree with them. PR wouldn't change this, you'd just add the right-left-up-down-wing greens to the mix which would confuse everyone. No taxes, but we should pay for everything. Excellent plan Jim. First past the post makes the most sense in a country like ours. PR just simply cannot work. We've discussed it here many times and I think a sound majority of us PR'ed it right outta town.

1.3 million people might just be fed up with turning our society into a cess poll and paying for everyone else's way. Not that the Conservatives can stop either. Just they are more likely to than the other choices presented.

It's not sex. It's not sex. Age of consent for sex is different than anal intercourse. Makes sense to me considering one is way more high risk than the other.
-
What??? Let me elaborate. Sexual intercourse can't happen with gay people, one or the other lack essiential elements to make this successful. Anal intercourse isn't a natural process (mostly because it makes no sense from biology or anything else) and isn't sex in the same way. Lesbians can't possible even compare. I really don't want to get into the intricacies of homosexual relations because personally I find even the concept disgusting. But we need to let people that aren't hurting anyone their freedom to do whatever. Just stop pretending its the same as straight people. It's not on any level. Your defintions dont count! Who says anal intercourse isnt natural? Anal intercourse is practiced widely by HETEROSEXUALS...not just homosexuals! I'm not discussing whether it should or shouldn't be practice. I said I don't care whatever you or anyone choose to do in the privacy of their house. I'm discussing whether there is a difference between gay acts and straight acts and the responsibility associated with them There is also the issue that you are much more likely to contract diseases through anal intercourse (and I'd say with gay people because HIV is higher in that population but that'd probably get a human rights board complaint). Most straight teens EDIT: DON'T (sorry missed a word) take STD's serious enough to be doing half the stuff they do, let alone these people that decide to go into the underworld gay acts that are much more 'high risk' as the liberal folks call them.

There's not much of a difference between a guy's mouth or a gal's mouth on a man's dick -- other than the fact that most bisexual male friends of mine tell me that gay men give better head. Blow jobs aren't sexual intercourse. I really honestly didn't want to get into this discussion but since you insist on turning this into a sex ed forum... I'm glad I don't have a daugther or I'd be more than a little pissed at that attempted personal attack. I'm not saying these things need to be banned, I'm saying they are not sexual intercourse!! Pretty simple concept. Hopefully I don't need to bring out the grade 5 slides for you to understand.

If the Population Growth problem continues to be ignored...
geoffrey replied to quinton's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Whats wrong with this? I'll be happy hanging out with fewer people around. More food/water/land/beer for me. Seriously though, I don't know if I agree with you. If the population growth rate is declining then ok. If it stays at 1% forever then the population is always increasing... your first sentence makes no sense in itself. -

Wrong, there is 1% natural population growth... Population growth = Births - Deaths. -
The age of consent for sexual relations should be the same whether your gay or not. The age for homosexual relations should be higher because these poor boys and girls get coerced by older people that try to make it seem cool to them. I've seen this happen. EDIT: Acts of homosexuality don't equal sex.

I don't know the answer to your question but Chretien was Prime Minster at the time and I suspect he required that the Liberal Cabinet voted as he wanted them to. Once Martin became Prime Minister, the Liberal Cabinet voted differently. Perhaps Chretien was homophobic. Martin and the entire Liberal Cabinet did vote for C-250, the bill to make gay bashing a hate crime. Harper and most of his party voted against C-250. Even Chretien supported C-250. You'd have to be remarkably intolerant not to. That's not what C-250 was about and you know it.

Harper failed to meet ethics czar on Grewal
geoffrey replied to stignasty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually the Herald has a leading headline today about how Shapiro held back info on Dosangj (or however you spell it, I'm too lazy to look it up, the ex-Health Minister guy). Apparently there was some sketchy stuff going on there, though whatever the case, it was equally damning to both parties so oh well. -
The age is too low as is. Shouldn't be a difference, it just shouldn't be 14. I still say it shouldn't be based on the age, rather we need to make sure 50 year olds aren't screwing their 14 year old neighbour. Divide by two and add seven? The new Canadian law?

All members of this organization should be put in jail. Supporting criminal activity is just unacceptable, its really disgusting that society is ok with idiots like this that support sexual exploitation of children. Just like those that believe child porn has 'artistic merit'. Time for us to lock some of these creeps us for good.

Oh how I miss blizzards, I haven't seen a good ol' snow squall in 5 or 6 years now.

Not that I've seen, the reign of terror has moved them all underground I guess? Or removed them all together. Talk about the transition team...I am moving there!!! We don't even have a Conservative MP on the island of Montreal... It's also going to be 11 degrees and sunny tomorrow, much like the rest of January has been. Its 7 degrees outside right now, I just came back from Timmy Ho's wearing shorts and sandals. Why wouldn't you live here? Good climate and good political climate...

You were a little too late with your prediction Murray B. Thus BigGunner's prediction of 125 seats for the CPC wins, no ifs ands or buts about that. Congratulations BG!! I feel like such an idiot with my once upon a time 163? Well I was hoping for the good for Canada anyways.

China is nowhere near Marxist! Actually, noone is! You should consider that a good thing... Campus-communists are my favourite. They tend to be those that never have to work during university and are either supported by the government or rich folks back home. My general profile of campus-communists. I am lucky enough to be at the most Conservative university in Canada, so I don't get to share in on this entertainment. Maybe we should take a lesson from how it never turns out 'right' and give up on this communism already. How did we get to this from a 'Now that Martin has resigned' thread?

Well said Arif. They of took some liberties with that race doesn't exist article, I read one in either Discover or something like it, but in general you are right. However, race is still an important social concept, whether correct or not. If black people hang out with black people then there will be a black culture. If everyone mixed then race wouldn't really exist. However this is simply not so.

My Goodness, the world hasn't come to an end!

Good call Trudeau, and welcome. I don't know if we need another Trudeau around, but we'll take ya. No Canadians wanted to hear why they shouldn't vote for people, not just the youth vote.
