  1. CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF CANADA 8 of your answers match the ideas of this party: early childhood, parliamentary reform, taxes, economy, national defence, relations with provinces, gun control, environment . BLOC QUÉBÉCOIS 2 of your answers match the ideas of this party: health care, education . LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA 2 of your answers match the ideas of this party: employment insurance, international aid . Never though I'd agree with Liberals on EI. Promoting a strong enough economy that people don't need it doesn't sound like what the Liberals have done for the last 13 years. Too many people are still on it.
  2. I'd have lunch with any of them. Harper would be interesting to hear his actual thoughts on economics and the such (economics is my forte so to speak). I've spoken with him briefly before (I'm a constituant) and he's suprisingly less 'scary' then on TV, where even I'll admit he comes across a bit condescending. He smart, and he knows it, I'd be condescending if I had to deal with such stupid questions all day. I feel he'd pick up the tab. Layton would be great to talk to. How could someone with such intensity not be? Don't agree with anyone that comes out of his mouth, agree completely with his attitude that Canada doesn't need to stay status quo. I'd be curious to see how much I have in common with him politically, I might be suprised. I feel he'd be going 'dutch', sharing is his way remember. Ducepee would be good practice for my ever failing French skills. I've always wanted to know more about the sepertist cause and what motivates them to dislike Canada to the point they all want to leave. Also, I wouldn't mind learning how to make faces like his in the debate. He'd pick up the tab, too classy not to. Harris would bore me, so I probably won't go to lunch, or make it short lived. He'd also make me come there on the train and eat only organic veggies. Martin would rob me while sitting at the table so not a fan of that. Or at least create a big scheme to funnel money out of my pocket into the Quebecois resturant next door.
  3. There goes the eureka anti-American statements again. Because the Americans remove judges somehow is linked to corruption. Damn that accountability eh? I sure hate to have power over the apointed judiciary.
  4. Definitely talking about the other matter. Why can't their be a limit? Please excuse my poor choice in examples.
  5. That's alot of Canada for you. Canadian's don't earn EI. They don't deserve EI. You humbly accept it if you struggling temporarily between jobs. Thats EI. I feel like you should pay it back when your employed. That'd motivate people to get working alot quicker instead of taking 'EI holidays.' In our economy right now, unemployment has no excuse. I hope next to no one is on EI currently.
  6. I didn't know that the Nazi's were so in bed with Islamic extremists. I guess they were both anti-semetic eh? Either way, I feel somewhat less intelligent by reading this. A core part of my soul has eroded.
  7. Staying somewhere for family isn't a bad reason to make less money. Money is hardly the only measure of success and happiness. If someone offered me two similiar jobs in Calgary and Winnipeg, with Winnipeg paying $10k/year more, I'd stay in Calgary because I love the environment here. I'm big into mountaineering, and this is more valuable to me than that raise. Family is also here. Tons of examples. But it ends when the taxpayer is paying for people to stay (*cough* Cod fishermen).
  8. Delete number 6 and we agree. I'm not concerned who pays as long as its not the taxpayer. However, being a service that cannot be rescinded I highly doubt many companies would lend money for one without some kind of guarantee or collateral. Ya 6 could turn into some exploitation idea eh. Alright, eliminate 6 it is. If I ever decided to run for office and get elected MP, I'll propose this one... "An Act to Protect Rights of Fathers and Unborn Children"... brilliant... Anyways... what about a cap on the number you can get? Like after you've had 10 or 11 is it time the bartender called for your tab?
  9. To which I will add: if you can't find any work in the area you'd like to live in, move yourself to a place where there is work. I've done it, more than once and lived to tell the tale. Actually, 'prospered' is a better word than 'lived'. The jobs don't come to you - it's the other way around. Thanks for the addition, I completely agree. My family (my parents family) has moved around for this reason many times, Winnipeg to Toronto to Quebec (short time, don't worry, I'm still sane) to Calgary. In Calgary we've found some definate prosperity, and now that I'm doing my own thing, I'll stay here as long as I can be prosperous here too. I work and go to school (wow is that possible? people can actually fund their university education through work? noooo way) and if there was a situation in my industry that prevented me from continuing, I'd pack up and move somewhere else where I could support myself. I wouldn't hold onto Calgary forever, claiming its my right to have you paying for me to live here.
  10. Why bother checking ?!? The crusher awaits ... We might as well get something from him. Nothing wrong with crushing him, just make sure we get our money back from the supplier first.
  11. Very interesting debate on abortion, some of the most civilized I've ever seen. Here's my stance on it: 1) It is killing a living being. 2) I could never condone it, never support it, never want anything to do with it (including pay for it taxwise). 3) Who am I to tell other people how to act. I think its murder, but only due to my religious beliefs. 4) A baby is equally a fathers as a mothers. 5) Abortion should come with a sexual education program to anyone that participates. 6) Abortion should be paid for in cash, if you can't afford it, you have to labour for it. Free abortion removes even financial responsibility from one of the most irresponsible acts out there. 7) A father should be able to get a court order to prevent the abortion, if he signs an agreement to support the baby himself.
  12. True, I've been defending eureka far too much (I agreed with him twice in as many days) for my Verminial reputation to handle though. Must go back to condeming people to misery. Conservatives can't have hearts afterall, modern day tinmen (PC- tinpeople).
  13. Yes I have. But until you posted it here I never gave it a second thought. Maybe Layton should make his own video about how electing his socialist party, learning to hate the rich, love taxation, and how the government can be the answer to all your problems can get you a dollar or two extra on your welfare check. If the NDP send me a free CD learning tool, I'll vote for them. Especially if they refund my Shipping and Handling when they are elected. Wow. They say anyone can be bought, but your price is pretty low. I've had a few drinks tonight (pre-celebration for Monday). Ask me tomorrow and I might want more from the NDP.
  14. Lets huck him into the damaged parts bin. See if he's still under warrenty.
  15. ZZZZZZiiing! It's wrong to 'editorialize' these quotes. It also wasn't an unfair paraphrase by Eureka though, and without quotation marks, he wasn't directly quoting.

  17. If Argus is a complement to your thinking, I fear you. This forum made me realise I'm not as crazy as some out there.
  18. Just wanted to get some opinions about how weather is going to affect this election. Would a big snowstorm convince certain voters not to head to the polls? Would a bright sunny day perfect for voting encourage more from certain parties out? Just looking out on this ridiculous snow (its not much, just all snow is ridiculous, thats why we have global warming) here in Calgary, I know this would have less people hitting the polls. It's just a matter of whether certain groups are affected more. Would it be fair to say that the incumbant would be disadvantaged because "oh he'll win anyways, its too cold"? Would less privledged people be less convinced to vote because they don't have a car to get them warmly the 3 or 4km to the polling station? Would the relgious people not vote because God is sending a message? (kidding)
  19. This is very true, but internet information must often be taken with a grain of salt. 'Blogs' are most often the rantings of idiots, not 'news'. Do they influence people? I certainly hope not, but I think they probably do. But then again, have you ever changed your mind about something because of something I (or anyone else here) wrote? Absolutely. There are many people here that have convinced me to look at issues from a perspective I had never before seen (credit Sparhawk, Kimmy, August and tml especially). I've never been completely swayed, but I do have a better understanding of certain issues. But I'm merely one vote, if 1000 Canadians participated (which is way too optimistic), thats still less than 1% of voters. Not really enough to change anything.
  20. The fisherman are just one of the groups that abuses the system. It's pretty simple from my perspective. If you can't find work in what your doing, its time to start doing something else.
  21. Some of the best news I've heard today. Add one to the Tory tally. I'm happy to see Michael going back to Harvard.
  22. I can't wait to ring in the new government at the big Conservative party here in Calgary. Watch for me on TV! I'm the one so drunk from both booze and joy that I can't even walk. I just came back from the liquor store... I don't drink much, especially on Mondays, but if the CPC wins I'll gladly show up to work hungover Tuesday... I've got class and work Tuesday... I plan on going straight from the convention centre.

  24. I have heard that expression in Newfoundland. It is appropriate and means the following, I believe: Some dictionaryHere is the context of the remark. ---- I notice that while the CBC has picked up on Mackay's remark (and his clarification), I have yet to see any reference anywhere to Paul Martin's remark about Calgarians. The heart of Canadian federal politics is respect for the different parts of the country. I still cannot believe a Canadian Prime Minister would say such a thing. A remark of that sort referring to Montreal instead of Calgary would be cause for resignation. You're right August. The Liberals aren't counting on too many Calgary votes though anyway. I'm calling for resignation. I think its disgusting. This just goes further to show that the Liberals believe that westerners are second class citizens. A government that attacks its own citizens can't be allowed to stay in office.
  25. Your maturity gives you such crediability, I hope it continues. That is how Martin defines Canada, he said it in those worlds exactly. Your hate is obvious in the first line... "well I'll just let an AMERICAN speak for my country." Are American opinions non-valid? Seems like your implying that. She's completely right. Most people in Canada, when meeting an American, get all worked up against them. Your post implies that being an American is to be considered a negative trait, I say this is bigotry. How do you view Canada Hollus?
