  1. My apologies, I thought the Globe did as well. I still think its leftist regardless of whether they endorsed the CPC or not.
  2. True true, the tree's already have their reservations to perserve culture and they are very well funded I might add.
  3. If that wasn't the most disrespectful, intolerant and ignorant comment I've heard this year I don't know what is. You've just lost any crediability in my opinion with such a blatent display of bigotry, and you've only been here 3 days. Well, I guess thats why theres so many jokes about lawyers out there! When it comes to intolerance and disrespect, I'm not sure if you were talking about our Canadian charter or the backlog of legal cases concerning the Catholic church and its leadership? No, I was definitely talking about that personal attack on a member of this forum that only a few posts earlier said he was Catholic. I happen to be Catholic and don't appreciate such an attack. There just no place for personal attacks here. If thats not a personal attack I don't know what is.
  4. If that wasn't the most disrespectful, intolerant and ignorant comment I've heard this year I don't know what is. You've just lost any crediability in my opinion with such a blatent display of bigotry, and you've only been here 3 days.
  5. So if happen to not have a religion, does that mean I can't get married? In my opinion that is correct, you can't. Why would you want to? You can get Civil Unionised. The word shouldn't matter if it carries no religious meaning. Seperation of Church and State remember, apparently thats a one way road in Canada, this can't continue.
  6. I forgot about that populist controlled media as an alternative. Let me know how it is down in Cuba right now?
  7. If your geography teacher thinks all of the globe and mail is right wing, then yes, he is mistaken. There are a few right wing writers. The general slant of the paper though, is normally discussed as being leftist. This is all relative though. If your geography teacher is a communist, then yes, he would think the Globe is extremely right wing. Where as if you were an American, the Globe would be very left wing. In this election the Globe did endorse the Conservatives, which was a suprise to many. The Globe is owned by Bell Globemedia (owned by the Thompson family, richest Canadians). Bell Globemedia also owns CTV.
  8. "Freakin' immigrants! Come here and steal our country, take everything, run all the elections." About the only people who might be entitled to make that comment came here quite a few thousand years ago. Course they just got screwed outta the Kelowna Accord so they may not be feeling quite so polite right now. They were immigrants too (and have no special rights thus, IMO), the only ones with real rights are the buffalos.
  9. In a parlimentary system like Canada's, which such regionalism and varying interests, PR can't work. It would have to be a whole new system implemented.
  10. Hate his policies, love his quotes.
  11. I never thought I'd quote Trudeau positively, but I think the reason goes along the lines of this: "Well, there's a lot of bleeding hearts around who just don't like to see people with helmets and guns. All I can say is go on and bleed. It's more important to keep law and order in this society than to be worried about weak-kneed people who don't like the looks of helmets." And I couldn't agree more with ol' Pierre (if only in this case).
  12. Only due to Alberta's wealth, which has zero to do with Martin. Martin's ignorance and mismanagment has cost how many jobs in the auto sector. And all the Maritimers live in Alberta now, the rest will just remain unemployed indefinitly. Martin's done nothing for jobs in this country.
  13. I think we agree but interesting that communist is the first example that leaps to mind for you. Past few years in the U.S they had government produced "fake news features" for proposed programs released to all media outlets as if they were news reports, immense levels of funding to pro-Republican groups and that's not even mentioning less easy to define propaganda. An old adage is that no matter what they say when out of power, once in power the main concern of all political parties is to stay in power. That opens the door to a whole world of thought control. Including holding the purse strings of the CBC.
  14. I'd agree... but it won't happen in Canada. The military policing inside our borders isn't favourable to anyone. The RCMP is so short staffed and underfunded already, that this is unfeasiable. The RCMP needs years of rebuilding before it can be where it wants to, adding a huge other mandate will only compound this. Do you have any idea how hard it is to recruit 10,000 police officers? Can't happen overnight, we need a solution now, not 10 or 15 years from now. These people are leaving our borders open because they fear for their lives. I don't disagree with you, but I just don't think any other way is feasiable right now.
  15. I can imagine. I just feel like our leadership, at all levels and parties, have been completely unconcerned with the safety of both our border guards and police officers. We can't be safe in this country until those that protect us are safe. This is definately a priority issue for me, and it needs to get off the backburner and into the spotlight. Hopefully a news story like that helps their cause.
  16. Remember Hicksey, 10 minutes response time is actually pretty good. Imagine the remote crossing in Southern Alberta (and other places I'm sure)... I've heard that one of the crossings is nearly an hour for police to arrive.
  17. Check this out: http://www.cbc.ca/cp/world/060124/w012498.html American murders with guns were being chased towards Canada, and our border guards packed up for the day and left because they were scared. I hope Harper arms these people with not only sidearms, but whatever weaponry they need to defend our country. How sad is it that our law enforcement people have to run away in fear? I don't blame the border guards, don't worry, I'd be running too. Lets give these people the tools to do their job or lets just stop pretending to be soverign.
  18. Alberta isn't corrupt, its just undemocratic. Klein doesn't even go to the legislature anymore, he just spends right out of the Alberta wallet. Oh well though, its spent responsibly, and the Party isn't stealing money. I can see how the Liberal folks would be all pissed off out here, but too bad, thats the danger of the parlimentary system. Plus if someone wants to send me $400 cash, I'll welcome it with open arms.
  19. No Murray's got a point. Let me clarify because it seems like he's struggling to, at least to August. More than 2/3 support and 1/3 non-support don't equal. Locking out the opposition prevents 1/3 non-support pretty quick. Say I had 155 seat majority, I just lock the doors and pass a bill to continue the government. That works. Where as if it said I needed 2/3 support, I'd need another 50 MP's to pass it and would therefore need the opposition. In a majority government situation it would be constitutional possible to continue the government forever. However, I don't think this would ever happen. Nonetheless, Murray is right, 2/3 support makes way more sense to me.
  20. In an area that is mostly white, I'd assume that mostly white people would be employed by Elections Canada. If not, I feel we need affirmative action, and retribution payments. Thats what minorities get when the number employed isn't exact what it is in the larger demographic.
  21. Looking at that document you posted August, under the Public Works and Government services section. Gatineau got $20,000,000 in funding. Calgary, larger in size, got $2,000,000. Saguenay got $4mil. North Bay almost recieved the same as Calgary. -- Someone better stop me from reading this, I'm get more upset with our government and how much it spends on such ridiculous stuff by the minute.
  22. I'd like to see all the moochers run out of town one and for all. If thats all Harper did this mandate, he would have done more good for this country than the last seven Prime Ministers combined. Why do these groups deserve government money? The real answer is they don't.
  23. Or maybe she's implying that Harper needs to join the Caryle Group. Why would a smart man turn down such a great investment opportunity?
  24. I wondered who the oaf was that stood up and obscured the view while the CBC cameraman was desperately trying to catch a glimpse of Preston. Why is it not mentioned anywhere that he was there? I said in another thread it seemed like he was on media avoidance duty. He definately was there though, where else would a reformer be on the night his boy became PM?
  25. Yeah I feel REAL bad for Landslide Annie... http://www.canada.com/national/features/de...f3-90e0298a4e20 Who the hell gets $100,000/year in pension? I feel some changes are needed, otherwise I need to get elected.
