Canada has lived this very post for most of it's most of it's history and it is wrong....And it has cost the lives of thousands of Canadians...thrown into combat with little to no real training, with equipment that was not proven or sub par, just ask the crew of the sherman tank what they thought of their tanks in comparison to Germany's or the Russians... Man has not learned to talk out it's problems, which is why violence is still a political tool...We need to defend ourselves, and par take in ALL our defensive agreements not becasue it's political but becasue it saves the lives of those men and women that are going to be sent into battle...my son and daughters, and future grand children are at risk as is yours. If we are not willing to defend ourselves, then we don't deserve our current freedoms and rights. Becasue it is nessicary maybe not at this day or week, but at some time we will need to pick up weapons and defend what is right... Not sure why Canadians are content with having someone else pay for our defense, I'm sure American tax payers are not thrilled about picking up the tab, i know if it was reversed i'd be pissed as well....we as a people have become fat and lazy, we spend our time trying to see what we can glean off our government instead of having any pride whatsoever and stepping up... Sometimes it is embarrassing to be Canadian.

NATO owns a lot of military assets from cargo aircraft fleets, refueling assets, and yet most countries have invested in similar fleets.... Canada has employed Surveillance aircraft in the past modified Auro's to surval the gulf area...also northern coast lines, and to assist the army in exercises on the ground...Your assuming AWACS is only capable of tracking aircraft it's capabilities are a lot greater than that... Just look at Afghanistan mission for a second, KAF airbase had on it well over 60 to 70 CH-147 from dozens of nations, ...plus dozens of other types of helos... one of the reasons we purchased our own fleet was availability, not to mention the host country could cancel at any time, which often happened, remember your the free loader here, and on their good will to give you a ride...many missions where then transferred to the road where peoples lives were lost...Not sure how the airforce works it air packages, but some where there is a need for AWACS, as other support aircraft. I know what it is like to depend on another nation for support, like air support, attack helo support, we got it providing there was no US need at the time...., and look how many Canadian lives were lost due to screw ups, i would rather have had Canadian pilots providing support. That being said when US A-10 or Apaches arrived on scene, a wave of relief washed over everyone... Canada has entered more defensive agreements than just NATO, there is NORAD, 5 EYES, and as justin has said they want to be a more active member in AUKUS...

I think it is about having capabilities and what you can offer to NATO in event of a crises, cost a lot less than sending a battle group over to europe some place forever...just send a few planes Awacs or refuelers or whatever, and poof your contribution is done...... and if trump remarks were not a sign of get your act together, we should be able to defend ourselves awacs is a nice capability to have when directing fighters or other aircraft...

your free to do what ever you want with your pay check...send it to anyone you want....My paycheck is staying right here...I'll bet my next check , that you will not see any western or well off nations come up with the funding to make a difference they say will be required in 2 years...Poop here in Canada we have yet make one goal we have set to meet our international obligations, and your good with that...Save your money Humans are not interested in surviving climate change if it means going broke, Take your money buy a good whiskey and wait for the day we burn up...

Yes there is no more wall, the sun and the moon are that much more brighter, because of it, Russia pulled back, most of the war saw pact see's democracy as more attractive...But Russia still is a combat power that can and will project military strength when ever it feels like...like in Ukraine, Syria etc...and it is not that ukraine is of some strategic importance to the globe, well to most of the world it is just another war saw pact country looking for a home...to Russia it is important, hence why the need to cleanse Nazis or what ever excuse they are using this week. Now to Europe it represents a threat, as they don't know if putin is going to take a larger bite out of their club...anyways the Europeans are all in arms, in fact some of those countries are on a war footing as we speak, with conscription, shopping at amazon for more military equipment, and pleading to have more NATO troops in their countries... Putin knows that NATO is like Russia a mere shell of their former self's... but still have a military capable of doing a lot of conventional damage....NATO is growing daily in strength and size...while Russia is bleeding it's resources in a conflict that really should have taken a few months....Ukraine is also bleeding out of it's people and resources...with only Europe and the US giving them aid, and only giving them just enough aid to hold them pesky ruskies at bay, not much more, as it is not in their best interests right... for a couple reasons... Russia stops being the bad guy and how do they trick congress into buying new toys or the US has spent a lot of time and effor to get Europe into increasing their military so US could downsize...can't do that if theirs is no war...second this war gives NATO time to get rid of all it's old and mouldy equipment and ammo, plus it gets to bleed out mother Russia at the same time, 2 for the price of one, it is a deal...there is more but your really not putting much effort into these conversations... Yes China is now the new world bad guy, it's NAVY has already larger than the US, meaning it has more ships, but lacks in certain ship types...So yes NATO and other defensive organizations have come into the picture to counter China... You seem to have no answers...and yet you have already formed your opinion...why is that ?

If anything, this will be the standard that the conservatives need to beat in the next election, political wise it was a asume move, on the liberal side make large announcements that got global praise, liberal voters will then say see, we do like defense when it counts, they also get to kick the can over to the conservatives and make them live up to these standards they have drawn in the sand. That being said this is not going to be an election issue, there is just to many issues for this to make it to the top...i hope the conservatives pick the ball up later and run with it...

I'm just wondering how they are going to get 8 bil spread out over 5 years, but still mange to pay the 3.5 bil in budget cuts, over the same period...why not just say 3 bil over 5 years and be done with it...or tell every that the budget cut thing is over...

I get what your saying, but on the other side of the coin is why should we the tax payer have to pay these titty suckers for no work....They would be glad to work if they have no other choice to eat and pay the bills...welfare has a massive re education program that provides free education for thousands of jobs all for free...my sister was on welfare for years, she made it all into a game, and when you combine it with other programs she made more than i did in the first years of being in the army....There are always going to be people that take advantage of any program, but there needs to be some control...Some canadians need help...but here in NB there are plenty that have been on welfare or pogey for life....

If you were so concerned about climate change , why are you not chirping about the liberals shitty climate change plan....instead your using a page out of the liberal carbon tax book, and trying to shame people into thinking we are better off with this carbon tax in place....and why is it having little to no effect on Canada meeting it's signed and agreed climate change goals, why are emissions up not fallin, ...If it is this cheap why are we even getting a carbon rebate cheques.... 22 bil in carbon taxes alone was collected last year, that does not account for the rest of the taxes, like clean fuel tax, or hst /pst taxes collected over the same period...

The maritimes are king of duping the welfare system, people are more creative than you give them credit for, here in NB there are entire families that are on welfare and have been for decades, and they are making out like bandits, living in low income housing with new cars or trucks in the drive, and haven't worked a day in their lives...come check day the fast food joints are filled with the welfare recipients, along with the beer stores... why get a job when the government will pay you to stay at home, and drink beer...thats their moto...taking advantage of the system is a science here, and business is booming, same as collecting pogy, it is all a scam for those that have learned to use the system...

I get that, today more than 1/2 the price is taxes, no longer at 35 % but more like 50% or more...lets not forget the other new taxes, like clean fuel taxes, etc... The government said it collected 22 bil in carbon taxes, lets not forget pst, HST on all of that...what a waste of time and effort, when we look at the results...

You keep mouthing the same story over and over again...Show us where the liberals climate change policies have made a difference in attaining our climate change goals...Even eyeball will tell you it is a failure.....Why is it that our emissions are climbing not shrinking... The liberals plan is not working as advertised, in fact it has failed on so many levels...why are you not chirping about it's failures,becasue your like most on the left, and are satisfied that there is even a fake carbon price in place, it makes you sleep at night...when in reality it does very little and fails in every category, laid out by our international agreements... You can disagree, but i'm not sure anyone here will agree with you, maybe you can convince some of us with some hard evidence. Based on what evidence, it seems the military chain of command of NATO are more than convinced that Russia still remains a treat, a few NATO countries have or started to think about conscription, Sweden's alert stages are above the Normal NATO levels due to Russian threats and actions. Perhaps the only person in the world that thinks the Russians are done and no longer a threat, which is why i'm curious what do you know that NATO experts don't? Just becasue the wall came down changed nothing, Russia pulled back, most of their allieds became ours , but Russia is still a threat...don't let Ukraine cloud you judgement... NATO is also being used to confront China, the alliance has expanded and is not just in Europe any more, it is in the middle east, And pacific...

Why is it the US has it's own climate change plans that have nothing to do with setting a price on carbon ...., according to sources it is much more effective than our carbon pricing...We should compare fuel prices in the US to Canada, why is it we pay almost double for the same fuel...yes carbon pricing is 17 and a 1/2 cents a liter, with almost 50 % of the remaining price federal and provincial taxes...plus then add the HST on top of all of that...and then that cost is added to everything that is transported, which is everything...and if your electricity is produced by fuel add that to your bill, now it is not a tiny sacrifice now it is people having to decide to eat of pay rent... why does reducing our carbon foot proint need to be so painful...why can't we follow others that plans are actually reducing carbon emissions...it is a tiny sacrifice for you...but many Canadians are struggling, you bought into the liberals lies hook line and sinker...just take a look at the results of the american plan then ours...our sacrifice is useless, we have failed at meeting our inter-national targets we have signed onto, Our emissions have increased not decreased, people are struggling to make ends meet, there are more homeless people than ever before in our history, and we have still not invested heavily on green tech to reduce carbon foot prints, considering carbon taxes rack in some 22 bil... How gullible are Canadians, Pretty gullible...to think this is the only plan available, so i'm going to support it...my sons pet goffer could come up with a much better plan... it is time for an election...its time for Canadians to wake up...and if Canadians think the liberals/ NDP are going to solve this issue, then your in that guilliable classification.

Sorry mike but i'm not following the first part of your post, what conditions do Canadian workers face that are better in France or Scandinavia. Maybe it is becasue most Canadians really don't trust our governments to do anything of real value, that and there is not accountability except every 4 years at the polls, that and Canadians are way to busy in their own bubbles to care to much, other than to bitc* on a forum to stand up and do something that will invoke change...and when they do, we see them as the enemy.... Which is why i don't understand why the liberals are trying so hard to buy votes, when in one years time nobody is going to remember what the hell all the spending was about....what they are going to remember is how much the liberals added to the debt... lets start with Pharma and dental are not basic needs, they just come to fruition in the last 3 or 4 years, most Canadians who work have these plans included in their employment...those that do not have access to insurance...these programs actually only service the very few... and at the cost of these programs one has to ask are they worth the funding we spend. The government is charged with the overall welfare of it's citizens, but most of those departments are under funded and under manned, instead of fixing THOSE departments and programs, with additional funding we've opted for Bribing the citizens with other shinny programs they think they need.... At what point are we going to have to look at overall finances to fund these bones we throw. or do we just continue to spend becasue thats what the people want, and just bury our current finical status from the people ...until there is no more money to spend..Greece is a good example of how things can get out of control...
