$400 for every man woman and child in Alberta
B. Max replied to FTA Lawyer's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
If memory serves, the responses were not as strong as the original query. Fleabag,The constitution gives the government of Alberta exclusive control over resources and the revenues that come from them, however, this does mean that those resources are an 'entitlement' that belongs only to Albertans. For starters, an Albertan is an arbitrary concept with roughly means: 'Someone who maintains a residence in Alberta'. I do not see how a right or entitlement could be conferred such an fluid group of people. Furthermore, the quote from the constitution that you provided states that the provinces owns the revenues from these resources and is responsible for administering them, however, the resources themselves are still owned by the crown which is the sovereign nation of Canada. I may be splitting hairs but I am getting sick of the self righteous rhetoric coming out Alberta about how 'Albertans' own the oil. The facts of the situation are much more complicated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's not right. 1. In order that the Province may be in the same position as the original Provinces of Confederation are in virtue of section one hundred and nine of the Constitution Act, 1867, the interest of the Crown in all Crown lands, mines, minerals (precious and base) and royalties derived therefrom within the Provinces, and all sums due or payable for such lands, mines, minerals or royalties, shall, from and after the coming into force of this agreement, and subject as therein otherwise provided, belong to the Province, The interest / ownership was transfered to the provinces, of lands, mines, minerals (precious and base) and royalties derived therefrom within the Provinces, It clearly tranfers the lands and minerals, and further states that any such royalties also belong to the provinces. To suggest that the provinces don't own the resourses is ridiculous. -
Do I read in this quoted tripe that "Alberta's oil industry is taking a pummeling"... I think that if you participated in the "real world", you'd see that it is the rest of Canada that's taking a pummling from Ralf Crime (or however you spell it). I note that the quoted article specifies that businesses are required to increase their emissions by 150%. Again, I think the authors might have bought seeds from Mark Emery.... Under Kyoto, the general idea is to reduce emissions. I looked at the attached "link" and then understood why the facts were all scrambled, the spelling incorrect, and the grammar all wrong.... it was from "The Canadian Taxpayers Federation". Why don't you try quoting a reputable source next time..... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Better read it again.

A good place to start would be to close the valves on all pipelines leading to Ont. "What kind of pain is called for," they ask. For starters, the pummeling of Alberta's oil industry, binding emissions-reduction quotas, and a job-killing 150% increase in the amount of emissions that businesses are required to make. Next they want higher gas prices and costlier home energy bills to reduce business and individual oil consumption. They conclude that "infliction of such pain is politically viable." http://www.taxpayer.com/main/news.php?news_id=2057

I won't live in either one of them, but if you must, calgary is probably the better place. -

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> That idea at last word has been scrapped because of opposition to it, and because to many potential users said they wouldn't use it. The alberta government had been prepared to sink a bunch of money into it. I would rather see them four lane the entire road to fort mac. -
They would make good targets for testing laser technology.

They sound like i'm ok, i got mine jack. Just what direction are they concerned about? -
Bill O'Reilly is well reseached and presents the facts, that's why he is hated by the left. When he exposed jessie jackson for the shake down artist that he is, that really got under their skin. Something they couldn't tolerate. They've been on a vendeta to get him ever since.

I have always said that those who support this war should enlist to fight it. I know that's not always possible, though. Well now, leave it to GW and Co. to find a way for YOU to contribute now, as well! As for me? I won't be giving one red cent, simply because I DON'T SUPPORT THE WAR IN IRAQ. I only support the Troops, and to help them I have sent out packages and plan to send out more soon. Well guys and gals... Let's have a show of hands and the amount you're planning on pledging to good 'ol Uncle Sam, for the "Iraqi People." Ironside pledges $0.00, but offers a boot up the ass of our fearless leader GW Bush! NEXT.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well i always thought that the cost of this should come out of iraqi oil revenues, but more americans were killed on 911. In fact during the civil war battles more than 20'000 would be killed in one day in a war that lasted four years. In pacific war battles more americans were killed in one day than all that are likely to be killed in iraq.

Pretty good advice if you ask me. Quite a few Canadians could probably use the extra exercise anyways. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah it's about twenty two miles to work. By the time i get there it should be just about time to turn around and head for home.

I would think not. It looks like something that you would expect to find at the UN.

Yeah, many wish Ralph cut health premiums instead. "TO HELL WITH THE NEEDY!", eh? Is Ralph stopping you from applying your 400 bucks towards medicare? Of course not! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And how, pray tell, is one suppossed to apply one's $400 to medicare? "Excuse me Mr. Klein sir, I would like this $400 you've alloted me to go into medicare." "Sure, I'll get right on that, just as soon as I finish up at the casino..." Healthcare premiums don't have anything to do with medicare. Yeah, just what both cities need....more cars. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No they need better roads and less street lights on the major roads. Especially in edmonton. They build a freeway and before it's complete they have it filled it with lights. At least they finally took that damn light out on yellowhead and 184 ST. -
, of that there is no doubt. There are still a lot of great people there, but the overall values of the nation have gone in the toilet. Instead of god, freedom or equality, they generally worship the Golden Calf, 'bling', and Mammon. Instead of 'democracy and fairness', they worship guns, death and 'sue or screw thy neighbour' at the earliest possible opportunity. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gotta love the freedom to right an article like that, wait a second....Wasn't it the United States who succesfully prosecuted a 2 front war against the the Japanese and Nazi Germany and liberated most of Europe and parts of asia from conquest. And by proxy defeneded canada? I guess are war mongering ways are ok, just so long as it protects canadian freedom of speech. But heck, Maybe some of canadians would rather speak japanese of german. Note: i realize all candians dont feel this way <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are absolutely right MA. I have a few problems with bush, one of them is that he never gave us a regime change.

I don't like the way it's being done either but it had to be done. Mullah McGuinty is crying for more money because he spent money he didn't have and the feds have made sure they spent their surplus so klien decided to give it to albertans. Before Ont. some how managed to get their hooks on it. All of a sudden surpluses have become hot potatoes but poor McGuinty doesn't have one. He now has to go to the people for more taxes or cut the hell out of spending. Either way, he'll be left holding the bag. -
He better handle this but quick so that it does not become a big issue during the campaign. As a New Democrat, I might have the most to lose if Harper is booted. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If i were harper i'd tell em to shove it, come home and run for leader of alberta separation and push the first domino over.

Water is not a toxic substance.... unless you're immersed in it... Taking statements out of context to try to make your opponent look stupid (instead of addressing the real issue) is called a "Straw Man" argument. When you try such obvious ones as this, intelligent people see right through you, and you do your argument no good.... In fact you lose credibility for valid points (if any) that you have.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then buy your logic water should be declared a toxic substance. After all ,water vapor is about 98% of green house gases as compared to about 2% CO2. Nothing is out of context and no one has to make ottatwa look stupid.

Mayor Ray Nagin, It's time for him to go It's long past time. How did this guy ever get to be mayor. New orleans has a long history of corruption and of being the most corrupt city in the US. I can't believe the american taxpayer is being put on the hook to rebuild it. I think it should be up to the state.

AB won't send energy windfall to rest of Canada
B. Max replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you are speaking in the past tense that might be possible. However, that is your conculsion and it doesn't matter anyway. It's covered. It's not that long ago that you claimed alberta didn't own its resourses and that's clearly not the case. -
Coffin pleads guilty to fraud of $1.5 million
B. Max replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If I stole money from you, what should be done to me? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd expect you to repay (as Coffin did) and be dealt with by the legal system. But I wouldn't blame your wife or family or anyone else but you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Coffin pled guilty to defrauding the government of $1.5 million. He is required to repay $1 million, thus leaving him a $500,000 profit. Not bad money for doing a brief lecture tour to snickering college students. Does anyone know who appointed this judge? I'm betting Jean Chretien. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There was some speculation this morning, might he be eligible for a government grant to conduct his lecture tour. -

Yes, you suggested it didn't apply to oil. However it does. Even in section 92. Forestry is not a non renewable resourse. Non-Renewable Natural Resources, Forestry Resources and Electrical Energ Now it seems quite clear that ottawa is going to get their hands on some of this money in the form of a carbon tax under the kyoto farce. In other words a production tax. I'm not sure what alberta's response will be, or the oil companies for that matter. This will effectively shut in all low production wells or high input wells. The feds have said it won't cost the consumer anything. Of course they mean the Ont. consumer. Wrong, it will cost them big time. There are thousands of wells that have never been tied in, others that now need to be re piped. Pumpjacked and so on. A great deal of that material comes from Ont. Guess what won't be coming from Ont. This will start a recession across the country, as it did with the nep. The calls this time for alberta secession will not be ignored. -

That's simply not true. The transfer covered minerals, precious and base, and royalties from. In other words they belong to alberta lock stock and barrel. http://www.solon.org/Constitutions/Canada/...sh/ca_1930.html 1. In order that the Province may be in the same position as the original Provinces of Confederation are in virtue of section one hundred and nine of the Constitution Act, 1867, the interest of the Crown in all Crown lands, mines, minerals (precious and base) and royalties derived therefrom with the Province, and all sums due or payable for such lands, mines, minerals or royalties, shall, from and after the coming into force of this agreement and subject as therein otherwise provided, belong to the Province, subject to any trusts existing in respect thereof, and to any interest other than that of the Crown in the same, and the said lands, mines, minerals and royalties shall be administered by the Province for the purposes thereof, -

It's such a joke. Gomery is running around asking people what they should do the next time these crooks get caught. The answer to that is to properly deal with the ones they've caught so far so there is less likely to be a next time.
