It seems our friends HASAN has scarpered, and taken most of his posts with him. The opening post of this thread has been erased, as has that of several other threads this guy(?) started. Hmmmm.

Time to get rid of the NDP
PocketRocket replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As long as people vote for the NDP, they have as much right to exist as any other federal party. IMHO the only party which has no right to exist on a federal level is the BLOC as their ultimate mandate is the separation of Quebec, and therefore their interest in national unity and other national matters is trivial at best, and non-existant at worst. -
This topic has been re-hashed so many times that I usually don't even bother any more. For most anti-gay-marriage types, the argument is based on their personal emotions rather than logic. There is no answer to an emotional argument. For those few who actually argue their points from a logical standpoint, I have yet to see any basis for an anti-gay marriage stand that could not be easily shot down in flames. 25 pages in this thread, and the vast majority of it is emotional dog droppings. I wish that for once someone would simply list their reasons for their stand against gay marriage, excluding their personal feelings on the matter, and try to defend their stance without resorting to more of the same, repetitive "it's not natural" bull. In brief, here are a few refutations of the most common mantras. Religion: Marriage is NOT a Christian institution for the simple reason that marriage predates Christianity. Tradition: In many coutries marriage is indeed man-woman, but all through history there have been gay unions, and many gay marriages are also historically recorded. Furthermore, the 1 man-1 woman type marriage, while being what we are primarily used to seeing in our culture, is not the only kind of straight marriage. Many cultures approve of polygamous marriages, another form of marriage frowned upon by most Christian religions. "Dictionary" meanings of the word "Marriage": Taken to its ultimate origin, the word "marry" simply means "to join". "Wed" holds an identical meaning. Two pieces of wood can be married together by a screw, or a nail (puns intended as I consider them apropos). It's Sinful: Any so called "sin" which does no one any harm cannot truly be considered a wrongful act in the eyes of anyone except a religious person whose own religion opposes gay marriage. This makes it a religious argument and disqualifies it for reasons listed above. As long as religion and state are separate, no religious argument holds any water in this matter. "It makes straight marriage irrelevant or invalid": Truly an argument that can only be employed by someone lacking self-confidence as each marriage is unique in its own way. Do two people with an open marriage make your own marriage any less valid??? No??? How about a polygamous marriage of some shah in the middle east??? No??? Then neither can a gay marriage. "Legalizing it will cause more kids to grow up gay": Prove it. And even if it is true, so what??? Does this threaten you in some way??? IMHO, life is too damned short to deny anyone happiness unless that happiness comes at a cost to someone else. Allowing gays to marry does not cost me or anyone else a bloody thing, financially, physically, or otherwise.

CBC TV.....feh. I have no great fondness for it, although every once in a while they carry something of interest. CBC Radio on the other hand, I appreciate in a big way. This is primarily because the programming is, for the most part, intelligent and often thought provoking. There is occasionally some crap, I agree. But there are no loud, brash commercials to annoy me, sandwiched in between crappy music, which annoys me more. But the one big thing about the CBC is simply this, no matter where you are in Canada, you can pick up a signal, unlike any other station or network, and this was the CBC's original purpose.

Congrats to both GREG and FTALAWYER. Um, I expect to see both kids posting in these forums by mid summer, or else you're doing something wrong

Dan Vinci Code-Answers And Questions

Wow. You and CHRIS PARKER gotta get together over a mug of Romulan Ale. -
Ah, but T-Bag, this particular troll is so much FUN. It's like shooting fish in a barrel, and the beautiful thing is he's so oblivious to it all that we don't have to worry about hurting his feelings.

As a whole, the Earth belongs to no one. Certain portions of the surface, however, belong to various parties. I (and the bank) happen to own a piece about 100'x160', along with the house and garage that sit on this portion of land. I expect after my death, someone else will gain title to this small portion of the Earth. If Canada is invaded and taken over by some other country, I expect my ownership of this piece of land will no longer be legally recognized. Hard to say, really. How long does a "people" have to be on a land before they are recognized as indigenous??? 100 years??? 400??? 1,000??? Before you define a certain group as indegenous, you'd best come up with a definitive time frame, because, as pointed out previously, if you go back far enough, North America has NO indigenous peoples. (Although a native friend of mine went to great lengths one night explaining to me that he and his people had "always" been here, even millions of years before man evolved, through some kind of (as best as I could understand it) retro-spiritual-occupancy. Hmmm. Based on that theory, if I claim that my spirit has occupied Hawaii for 10 million years, do you think they'll give me the island???)

So when I'm 80, and want to marry a teenagaer, that's the place to be??? Admirable, I'm sure. "Small incidents"???? A woman gets murdered and it's a "small incident"??? Good sense of perspective. Nice, the way you value the lives of others.

Imagine their outrage if someone had done something like this with Mohammed....... http://www.devilducky.com/media/40716/

Without taking the "morality" of mines to task, I have a few observations about the ad. Like any fictional short, it has a major plot hole. It's difficult, if not impossible, to hide a mine in a well-groomed bit of turf like a soccer pitch, the mine would have had to have been buried long enough ago for the grass to grow back over well enough that the burial spot would not be noticed. So, with all that in mind, why the hell didn't the guy riding the lawn mower get blown up when he was cutting the grass??? It would have been more believable if the scenario took place during a nature hike, or if they were playing on a sand-covered field. Sorry to veer, but that kind of stuff bugs me.

Hmmm. "No dealing with the USA"??? Unless we were to cultivate a whole lot of other trade partners very quickly, that would lead to national bankruptcy. Better get all your savings converted to sheckels or dinaries, or maybe euros, before that step is taken, because Canadian cash wouldn't be worth the paper it's printed on. Sorry. I don't particularly want to live in a 3rd world country. The USA is by no means perfect, but then again, neither is Canada or any other country. Personally, I'd rather have dealings with the USA than about 90% of the other countries in the world.

Unfortunately, the Libs proved over the last 12 years that any promises about cutting taxes (GST in particular) weren't worth the single breath of air it took to tel about them. "I will scrap the GST". We heard that how many times??? I'm not a Conservative supporter, but Harper now has his chance. Let's see what he does with it and judge him based on his actions over the coming months, rather than make dire predictions.

Oh yeah, but we usually spell it with two i's. Winnepig???? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Bravo. Well said.

Hmmm. If I start a group called PocketRocket And Teenage Scandinavian Inline Skaters will that make me a lobby group rather than a pervert??? PRATSIS, coming soon to a town near you. Send me your poor, your hungry, your blonde teenage roller skaters. I may send back the poor and hungry,,,,, The sad thing is these guys in NAMBLA want to be taken seriously. PRATSIS, on the other hand.... The upside to the organization is it's a lot easier to catch fish when they're all crowded into one barrel.

Did a search on his posts, and between Dec 7 and Jan 15 there's nothing, and Jan 15 appears to be the last post. Perhaps the others were wiped out. I am curious too.

Wierd. I just tried to go back there from the link I posted here, and got the "Subscription Required" page. So, try Google "Canada election results maritimes", which is what I did, and this came back as the fifth entry. Got in no problem from there.
-
Hey BB, try this site. It's got live results province by province http://www.theglobeandmail.com/elections/f...ialResults.html (Edited to add) The page loads pretty slow. I guess it's getting a lot of traffic tonight. Gee, wonder why???
-
Not sure about the Maritimes, but it seems the CPC has picked up 4 or 5 seats in Quebec. Cool. Bloc is down those same 4 or 5 seats from last election. Cooler. It looks like a big congratulations to all you CPC types out there. Let's hope Harper handles his turn at the helm well.

No doubt, it's not his head pasted on to a musician's body, simply because..... 1))) The guitar is not even strapped on him properly 2))) Notice the right hand, NO ONE plays with the thumb while the other fingers rest on the body 3))) Left hand; simply wrapped round the neck of the guitar. No chord or note is being fretted. It's just a sad man trying to look like he's having a good time, and I guess playing "air guitar" without a prop is beyond his abilities.

No, but it seems Toronto is becoming Detroit.
