Speak up Canada and Make a difference
PocketRocket replied to Bolek's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why don't you unlock the forum section so people can check it out before deciding to register??? Based on what I've seen so far, I'm unimpressed, but then again, I'm not much for reading a bunch of one-sided blog-type rants, without seeing if there's anyone actually discussing the points being raised. Unlock the forum. -
Scratch that. We have a winner. -k Sorry, KIMMY, I liked the first one you pointed to much more. But hey, why the serious issues, the ads are silly, so my take was equally silly. Besides, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings. I've been ignoring several threads which I see as duplicates, but it seems there's some good stuff here. Got some readin' to do.

Hey MOWICH, thanks, you gave me another idea..... Steven Harper has said he wants stricter laws regulating pornography. Steven Harper himself owns a camera. In fact, more than one. Camera. Harper. Here. In Canada. Harper has not come right out and said that he was not taking photographs in that Quebec sex club. But then again, he hasn't told exactly where he was. That night. In Quebec. When they had an orgy in the sex club. We're not totally making this up. Choose your camera, er, Canada. (Man, it's getting tough to come up with other "C" words to preceede "Canada. But hey, I'm a sucker for alliteration.)

The Liberals. Are scrambling. To cling to power. By distorting. Facts. And demonizing. The competition. Because it worked. In 2004. We did not make this up. Oh well, if you want to play THAT game, go here..... http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/index.p...indpost&p=87934 http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/index.p...indpost&p=87935 http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/index.p...indpost&p=87939

Oh well. At least Chretien could never be accused of talking out both sides of his mouth

Doesn't ANYBODY check to see if an issue is already being discussed before opening yet ANOTHER thread on the same topic??? Gotta be a half dozen threads on the ads already.

Steven Harper has gone on record as saying he "Likes pork". It has been said that flesh from a human body tastes much like pork. There are still many unsolved missing-person cases in Western Canada. Why has Steven Harper never let us look in his freezer??? His refrigerator freezer. In his kitchen. Here. In Canada. We're not saying that Harper cuts people up and eats them, but then again, he's never denied it. We're not making this up. Choose your cannibal, er, Canada. You're right, this IS fun.

Steven Harper was once overheard in Parliament saying he had to "Go to the bathroom". "Go to the bathroom". In Parliament. Right here. In Ottawa. In Canada. He can't even hold his water, and he wants to hold office. We're not making this up. Choose your commode, er, Canada.
-
Steven Harper has never come right out and said that he does not wear women's underwear. He could conceivably even be wearing them right in Parliament. His wife has women's underwear. In HER drawer. In THEIR dresser. Right there. In their bedroom. In Canada. Coincidence??? We don't think so. Choose your camisol, er, Canada.

CBC's Liberal Infomercial for Paul Martin
PocketRocket replied to wellandboy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
On the other hand, 2 nights ago on CBC radio, there was a little political satire comedy show that spent 20 minutes ripping PMPM apart at the seams, while saying little or nothing bad about any of the other candidates or their parties. On publicly-funded radio. Right here. In Canada. On the CBC. I'm not making this up. -
Don't be bashful. Tell us what you REALLY think:) "Your" military??? I wasn't aware that it had been privatized. "Stood back silently"???? Obviously you didn't spend much time here in the past few years. Now this is rich. Conservatives are the first ones to criticize when Martin et al claim that American culture, or rap "artists" like 50-Cent influence our youth into committing crimes, and now here you are claiming that the Libs are a "role model" for our youth, and therefore responsible for crime on the street. I can't think of anyone less likely to be a role model for a "troubled" (read; violent) youth than a politician. Hell, most kids aren't even aware of politics other than periferally, if even that.

Easy. Hold down the little button to turn off the refrigerator light. The one that glows is the safe one. I can imagine a smille slowly spreading across the face of Jeffrey Dalmer.

Like we need ANOTHER thread on the attack ads??? Oh well... Seeing as this one is superfluous, maybe this little story will fit in here. Last night, whilst driving, I heard this political satire show on CBC radio (don't recall the name of the show) They completely and utterly slammed the Libs for the ads. They did several send ups in the same style about every two minutes. One of them went something like this.... The Liberals have spent thousands of dollars on advertisements attacking Steven Harper. Thousands of dollars. Attacking. Harper. Thousands. In Canada. Advertisements. Attacking. In Canada. Oh well, at least this time the Liberals actually got something for their advertising dollars. We're not making this up. Choose your Canada. Another went...... When Jeffrey Dalmer was arrested, body parts from his victims were found in his refrigerator freezer. Steven Harper has not allowed us to look in his freezer. What could he be hiding. There. In his freezer. In Canada. We're not saying that Harper is a murdering cannibal, but wouldn't it be better if he came right out and publicly denied it for himself??? We're not making this up. Choose your Canada. (Hopefully I got them both fairly accurately.) I was at a gas station during one of these, laughing my ass off. The guy pumping gas thought I was out of my mind.

Thanks for the link, MONTY.

Liberal attack ads backfiring already.
PocketRocket replied to shoop's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually Harper did release his donor list, in fact I thought (?) I posted the link from the Toronto Star google cache. Have to look for it again can't find it now. Not sure that Martin did either because up until recently it was required that leadership donations be revealed. I was unaware of this, as probably most Canadians are. In light of this, Harper's bunch should launch a clean counter attack. Here's what I mean by "clean". Instead of re-hashing Gomery and all the other crap (the press is doing a good enough job on their own), what the CPC's should do is start out by airing part of the Lib ad, then coming in saying "This information was indeed disclosed, and you can see the full disclosure at (insert website address here)." Then follow that with "The Liberals say they didn't make all this up," (which is a statement that comes in at the end of pretty well all of the Lib attack ads) "But we'd like to know who did". In this way, they could attack the Lib attacks, without actually doing any mudslinging of their own aside from the inference that the Libs are indeed "making it up", and so give the impression of taking the high road and running a clean campaign. This could be done for every ad where the Libs have used information in a misleading way. The kicker would be if at the very end, they said something like "We agree with the Liberals in one important respect, It's time to choose your Canada" -
I left nutty bush for scary Harper ?
PocketRocket replied to USA_Liberal's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The arrogance! But I have to remind myself of the ridiculous and vile that comes from CPC on this forum. Don't just point to the right, NEWBIE, vile and ridiculous posts come from both sides in roughly equal measure. -
I left nutty bush for scary Harper ?
PocketRocket replied to USA_Liberal's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That's a pretty sweeping statement from someone who is quite obviously a CPC supporter. As such, how is it that you would be aware of the thoughts and feelings of ALL Liberal supporters??? Have you conducted a nation-wide poll that we don't know about??? Would you care to cite a site supporting this wild claim??? Gee, from the way you're addressing him, and the condescending tone of your post, it certainly seems that there is at least one Conservative who doesn't like him. -
I read the article first, then came back to see teh comments already posted. T-BAG had already cited the quote that I grabbed from the article..... ....but seemingly for slightly different reasons. The suggestion that the softwood lumber issue would immediately be fixed under Mulroney, or more specifically Harper, appeared to me to be a direct partisan shot from the writer, which only served to damage what otherwise looked like an impartially-written piece. Aside from that small gaff, good article.

Voting should be Mantatory
PocketRocket replied to ChangeTheWorld's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
IOW, our current status quo I agree. But a responsibility that must be exercised voluntarily. To force someone to vote would lead to results KIMMY has already pointed out. -
Liberal attack ads backfiring already.
PocketRocket replied to shoop's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I watched all of the ads. All were typical of election-time hyperbole. Wonderful little production pieces. The ominous background music track, the slight, eerie flange in the narrator's voice. Difficult to say what effect they'll have, but I don't doubt that they'll sway at least some of the people. The only one that really bothered me was regarding where Harper got his campaign funds. "We just don't know. He just won't say." Masterful, the way they suggested that Harper's "right-wing friends" in the USA have got a lot of money, without actually coming out and accusing him of getting funding from American interests. Transparent, but masterful. Of course Harper could easily de-fuse this by simply disclosing where his campaign contributions came from. Unless he does indeed have something to hide. His continued refusal to reveal this information can only work against him. As for the "military" ad, heh-heh, Harper should counter by saying he thinks a military presence at Jane and Finch might help clean up some of the gun violence. -
Sometimes it's a good idea to see if something is perhaps already being discussed before starting another thread about it. Your concern ties in with the conversation going on here...... http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/index.p...indpost&p=87291

TML: Very respectable, and respectful, post. Thank you. I was simply pointing out why religion cannot lay sole claim to marriage. This last post of yours certainly increases my respect for you in light of the fact that you are willing to discuss your views without being overly contentious about them. All your points are well taken, and very well said. Two thumbs up

Thanks. I was wondering. If you were opposed, it would definitely have been a good pun, in keeping with the thinking of some people
