10 Things NEVER to Say to a Black Coworker
fellowtraveller replied to lictor616's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
You need therapy, your sense of victimization is impairing your judgement. -
What is puzzling is why Obama would get advice that he should invest political capital in this bid, and worse that he would take that advice and act on it. The bid already had plenty of support from the likes of Michelle Obamna and Oprah, him arriving late with pom poms in hand and still finsihing last does not reflect well on him or his judgement, and was unnecessary. It implies that without his help, the Chicago bid would have finished worse than.... oh wait, there is no worse than dead last.

Why is Bush allowed in?
fellowtraveller replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Having or not having a record is not defintive in getting across our border, the immigration official has wide discretion in allowing in convicted criminals or barring those without criminal records. Just ask George Galloway. -
I'd prefer that they drop the pensions entirely, and just give them a lumpsum related to their time in office equivalent to what pension payments would have been, a form of severance. Then they can top up their own plans, or buy a boat, or whatever. Just like many others today.

Nova Scotia NDP end Union and Company Donations

Nova Scotia NDP end Union and Company Donations
fellowtraveller replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
What is that, exactly? Yes , really. Despite Adscam, despiote a few years of being ruled by Satan, the NDP is still at 13%. That has a one word summary: failure. You are wrong. LIke it or not, Nova Scotia has a small economy on any scale and is not a significant player in Canadian politcs. Your reaction to these realities is utterly typical of the NDP. There you go, more of your fiscal fantasies. The only way the budgets were 'balanced' was with massive injections of equalization money. More correctly, they are pathetic. Like Bob Rae or Glen Clark or Svend Robbingstores? 13% -
French vs English: Radio -Canada is scarcely a federalist (unifying)force left vs right.: even CBC does not pretend to present anything but the left side of the agenda anymore. Of ocurse, neither does right wing talk radio, with the difference being I don't have to pay for that.

Problems for the Canadian Crown
fellowtraveller replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Easy solution: an omnibus bill by a Tory majority to eliminate both the Queen/Crown and the CBC. Secret Agenda! The monetary comparisons of costs to the British and Canadian purses for the monarchy are misleading. In the UK, the very existence of the Crown also generates tons of revenue, tourists do pay to see the pomp and ceremony, royal activities and sites are a huge draw. Not so in Canada, nobody comes here to see the GG or her properties or ceremonies. -
Success? Who listens to radio any more except middle aged people and older? How does the CBC sucking at the teat of all of us lend to a healthy radio market? The money should come from private industry? Why would they be more enthisiastic about supporting your entertainment choices than I am? Do you also support free magazines and bowling for yourself too? Arrogant and selfish, enjoy it while you can.

Nova Scotia NDP end Union and Company Donations
fellowtraveller replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
do you see it now, about halfway down the page??? The NDP have had a historic opportunity since 2005/2006 to capture the Canadian public votes and seats and have failed. But you are welcome to keep believing that running one of the smaller economies in Canada for a couple of years is a significant step forward, if it gives you comfort. Does it bother you that Saskatchewan has turned away from The Cause, so have BC, Ontario and likely Manitoba is next, when Satan has stolen Doer away? Layton has failed, and he knows it, with the most recent evidence being his newfound support for the Tories he used to vote against without bothering to read the legislation. Now, he portrays himself as the sober statesman. The only people he is fooling is himself and people like you. -
Your attempts to divert this to a 'radio only' discussion are amusing. Your love of CBC radio is touching, can I assume it will result in you actually taking some money from your pocket, rather than my pocket, for your entertainment choices?
-
I get roughly 200 channnels on digital cable now, the TV spectrum would not miss the loss of CBC, plenty of entertainment choices available.

Nova Scotia NDP end Union and Company Donations
fellowtraveller replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
You can take the socialist out of the language but can you take the socialist out of your core? Well no , you cannot because if you did the NDP would be relevant, and that isn't happening anytime soon. 13% support as of yesterday, and that in a poltical environment where support should be exploding........ -
What happens after 2011, for Canada and Afghanistan
fellowtraveller replied to Army Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Is it simple dishonesty or lack of reading comprehension that obliges you to drag out this strawman? What I said was "as a taxpayer, I would support an indefinite Canadian role in Afghanistan. Civilian or military roles will be determined by the situation there and then" You must not have noted, or more likley chose to ignore, that I support an indefinite role for Canada there , not an indefinite combat role for our military. If they are required for support purposes to civil rehabilitation work beyond then, so be it. -
Ignatieff calls an election?
fellowtraveller replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Is this the type of statement you expect from any Canadian politician? I expect, in the Liberal tradition, that Ignatieff is whatever wing is convenient. He'll be the drumstick or thigh too if that is expedient. Harper has taken a page from the Liberal handbook in this regard..........and it is quite effective so far. -

Ignatieff calls an election?
fellowtraveller replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
?? I was challenging the notion that Harper has in some way not supported the military, he has raised the budget and not cancelled previously approved intiatives, and he has resisted Martin, Dion and Layton in their wishes to cut and run.. Who cares what Ignatieff supports, he does not sign any cheques. I remember you now Normie, you are so hardcore Liberal you make jdobbin look like Stockwell Day. Next you'll be telling me the Liberals, especially Chretien, always loved the military...... -
return of Nordiques to NHL
fellowtraveller replied to jdobbin's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Oilers tickets start at about $45 for standing room and there are very few of those. Same for other Canadian teams Hamilton or Kitchener could easily support a transfer team, likely the last and only North American market that is underrepresented. The problem is that it could also support a big fat new franchise fee of perhaps $200-$250 million, and how do you find somebody rich enough/dumb enough to pay that when existing franchises are going to be available for much less as they fail? -
return of Nordiques to NHL
fellowtraveller replied to jdobbin's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Taking a family to such high end activities regularly is for the rich or foolish. Try bowling or a movie, much more affordable family entertainment. But thanks for making my case that taking in a Nordiques or Jets game won't be possible for many families. -
Ignatieff calls an election?
fellowtraveller replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He has an odd way of showing his disrespect, since the military budget has gone from about $14.4 billion in 2006 to over $19 billion in 2009. I do admit that Harper is no Chretien when it comes to disrespect. -
return of Nordiques to NHL
fellowtraveller replied to jdobbin's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
No, the Packers are not even close to a good example. For one thing, they have a much larger population in their trading area than Quebec. But the real reason is that the NFL does not depend on their gate revenue, and the Nordiques most certainly would. The NFL has a monster, multi billion dollar network contract and scores of millions of rabid fans. The Nordiques would have their gate. Qubec may compare better to similar cities, but they have a small trading area and there are no teams in the NHL anywhere near that small. Can you sell ordinary people expensive tickets indefitnitely in Quebec, a small city with a small trading area? I have serious doubts. -

Property is theft. The cadre will deal with the NDP 'leadership' at the appropriate time. -

I would certainly hope they do not have assets, that would be counter-revolutionary. -
Since they are the Natural Ruling Party of Canada and have mostly done just that for most of the last 140 years, tey would have to be pretty much all of Volume one of the list. Oh wait, unless you're one of those Objective Liberals who thinks Trudeau was a tightwad and Adscam was all a misunderstanding, no Liberals involved there...... Thanks for providing another chuckle by trying to goad me into defending Grant Devine, you've bypassed the strawman and laid on the whole crop.

That is one of the funniest things I've ever read here, imagine the Liberals being concerned about taxpayers money!And before we apply for sainthood for Doer and Calvert, how many of those 'balanced budgets' were done with the aid of significant injections equalization money intio their operating budgets every year? It is much easier to be a 'fiscal jeanius' when Daddy pays the bills.
