  1. Revisonist nonsense, as expected.Next you'll be claiming the Maniotoba NDP govt is 'fiscally responsible' because they 'balance' their budget, while getting a couple of billion per year, every year, in extra federal gravy. That's like a 16 year old claiming they are financially independent while Daddy slips them a couple thousand every month. I agree that Devine was an idiot. Your new assigment is to explain why Brad Wall is not, and is so very popular in SK right now. Oh, and let us speak of the Devil. Mr Bob Rae.
  2. If you think that the ad agencies in Montreal have been punished enough for Adscam, vote Liberal and return prosperity to that sector of the industry.
  3. Sorry, your membership has been revoked. Get a job and apply again in a couple of years.
  4. Sorry, you have misunderstood the basic nature of Canadian economics and the very soul of the confederation if you think money flows into Alberta. I think it has something to do with gravity and the landscaping/grading around the edges of the province.
  5. We should just legislate the change now and have elections on the 1st Friday of every month. Dinner and a movie with the missus, pay the utility bills, vote for the latest government, flip the page on the kitchen calendar. We could be the new Italy.
  6. I'm going to pass the hat and buy you a sense of humour for Christmas.
  7. Of course you're not a non-citizen when you return. You are a non-resident though, and you'll have to sort that out with whatver province you settle in to regain the privileges that go with residency.
  8. Trump has one fatal flaw..... Sooner or later, every candidate has to wear a hat. Ball cap, hard hat, cowboy hat, toque- something, somewhere on the campaign trail, somebody is going to make you wear a lid. And there is the problem: with a monster hairdo like Trumps, any hat will have to be the size of Rhode Island and make him look like a sideshow clown. End of Presidential bid, right there.
  9. I'm not a drinker, but my wife likes single malt so the cabinet has a bunch of bottles accumulated over time. Her favorites so far are Oban, Lagavulin and Auchentoshan. Last time through Heathrow, I picked up a Johny Walker sampler, four 200 ml bottles of Black, Blue, Gold and Green blends, costs about $80CDN which is a good deal. Hasn't been opened yet, she isn't big on belended Scotch but the $200+ JW Blue is supposed to be good. If you are travelling through London, Heathrow has a huge duty free with lots of Scotch selection and a helpful staff who know something about the product- very useful for somebody who knows nothing, like me. But the best store I've seen is -not surprisingly- in Edinburgh. There is a Scotch-only store, a pretty big one, on the Royal Mile just a bit below the Castle. They have thousands of different Scotches there, from cheap stuff to about $12,000 for a single bottle! It is all a bit overwhelming. The staff there are also really knowledgeable and helpful. Cheaper at Heathrow, but far less selection.
  10. The cities in Canada are bland, with Toronto right up there for nondescript. Montreal is pretty good, Vancouver, Quebec and maybe Halifax as the best of the second raters..... IMO, the best of Candada is the North, I love Yukon. It is a place that very few Canadians ever visit, and even fewer foreigners, which makes it even more appealing really. If you want to see the best of the country, get out of the cities and stay out.
  11. What is Svend Robbingstores doing for a living these days? he'd make a great NDP leader again.
  12. Both the Manitoba hydro money and the $2 billion per year, every year, they get in equalization money gravy from a mysterious donor are the sole and exclusive birthrights of Manitobans. Don't ever forget that.
  13. And how do Quebecs exported light rail cars and jet aircraft get built?
  14. I agree with wyly and Rovik that these interprovincial/federal subsidies have to end. The feds have to pull the financial pin on Syncrude and Bombardier and SNC-Lavalin right now! Speaking of interprovincial subsidies, they should also halt all that subsidy going east from Alberta, in fairness. I think the amount is now up to $14 Billion per annum now. Too bad for Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and the Maritimes. It is great to see such solidarity among the disparate political opinions here!
  15. Do not agree, if Harper gets a minority then Ignatieff will follow through on his promise not to form a Coalition, he'll call it A Cooperative and will end up as PM. But I can promise he won't have any fun at all for however long he suffers in that job.
  16. I'd say no chance. Trudeau is a lightweight, and the Liberals know it. Harper would love love love facing Trudeau as Lib leader.... Rae is a more formidable opponent, but too much baggage all around to get elected. The only guy I see in LiberalLand as a Harper slayer is Frank McKenna, and he has already passed twice on the Gong Show the Libs have run since Martin was thrown to the wolves. Too bad for them, he could beat Harper. I expect he'd exact a high price if he ever agreed to run the show, like a) an unopposed coronation as leader(like Iggy had) and b ) turfing most of the national executive for starters.
  17. just curious, but has Ignatieff ever expained how he intends to form a govt without a Coaltion. I know he has mentioned A Cooperative, which is apparently something different than A Coalition, but has he fleshed out any details on how that differs or how it works?
  18. And Hrper will be loving the Liberals targetting the Left. Nothing better than the NDP and Libs in a deathmatch over left votes, he can slide right up the middle and win many seats with 40% of the vote in thse ridings. Hello Ontario!
  19. There, I fixed that translation for you. I don't think Harper would turn down a one-on-one debate with Ignatieff if it was clear that little buntoss was replacing the Harper vs The Coalition one that is already approved by all(except Ms May). Harper is just trying to save travel expenses for Layton and Duceppe, no need for them to show up when Iggy is there.
  20. Perhaps Mike, Jack, Gilles and Liz will issue a statement on what plans The Cooperative will have for Libya. I expect they'll issue a strongly worded memo at a minimum.
  21. Is it coincidental that he has exactly the same name as the leader of the Liberal Party?
  22. The broadcasters have set the criteria to be included in the debate as having a minimum of one seat in the Commons. That seems fair and reasonable. The Green Party met that last time around, doesn't meet it today. What's the problem? They'll change their minds of course, and include her eventually.
  23. That won't be the biggest lie he tells us......just the most recent. It won't be a Coalition because Mike has promised not to do that....it will be a Cooperative. The Canadian people will demand it immediately after rejecting the Liberals at the polls. Or some such bullshit. A Tory minority will be Ignatieffs last and only chance to be PM. He won't pass it by, it is the only reason he has stuck around this long and it is the only reason I can see that he forced an election with the laughable contempt citation. Of course he may not get the chance, as I predict a Tory majority. Buh-bye Iggy, hello next interim leader. Ralph Goodale?
  24. Sure. My point was that the Opposition chose to fabricate some nonsensical contempt allegation, run it through their partisan committee and onto the Commons floor, then use it to dump a govt. They could have picked any topic any time and done the same. What pisses me off is they presume the Canadian public is a pack of morons, and won't see the transparency of their action. The next few weeks should sort their hash, my prediction is that they are already scrambling for something real to justify a campaign and an essentially pointless election. Well, it doesn't have to be anything real but it does have to grab the public by the short and curlies. The invention of a contempt citation (first in the history of Canada!!!) won't cut it . Ooops.
