  1. Need is determined by circumstance. In the case of a workplace injury (i.e. the hockey player) several jurisdictions allow for this through workers comp legislation. So the answer to your question is yes the hockey players utilize the same system you and I do.
  2. Hogwash. As a Canadian citizen who has utilized the healthcare system here in Manitoba I can tell you the system has worked for me. That you refuse to believe this is your problem. The system can and will be sustained.
  3. I have access to a Nurse Practitioner and a doctor and have no problem getting into see either within a few days. I am in relatively good health and have never had a problem gaining timely access to healthcare. The American system is structured in such a manner so as to disenfranchise many and drive some into poverty. Yours is an expensive inefficient model regardless of your bravado.
  4. There is no crisis other than in the thick heads of the ill informed and that includes you. Speaking as a senior my medical needs are being adequately met and I don't anticipate that will change. The USA, on the other hand, has one hell of a mess on its hands.
  5. Are you going back to the Czech Republic?
  6. Your information is both inaccurate and dated.

  8. I don't see the comodification of healthcare in the manner suggested as providing an effective alternative to what is avialble now. As I mentioned there is a shortage of doctors and nurses caused by the ill conceived and short sighted policies decisions made in the 90s by all governments. Here in Manitoba the number of spots funded for doctors and nurses has increased but there is still a shortage of qualified practitioners.
  9. To the contrary Canadian healthcare professionals will be in high demand for quite sometime into the foreseeable future. There is currently a shortage of medical practitioners and nurses. As for those trips overseas that will be for a limited number of individuals with the resources.
  10. I notice many of those rights you trumpet have been lost during the Bush/Cheney era and even under Obama continue.
  11. The boom times are over. A secular change has now taken place. The U.S. will look more and more like a Third World country. In health care, compared to Canada or Europe, it already does. Thus our prospects for another economic boom in the next decade are like those of Monty Python’s famous Norwegian Blue parrot— http://www.aspousa.org/index.php/2009/08/the-incredible-shrinking-boomer-economy/ Why would anyone want to emulate the American model?
  12. In both the USA and Canada healthcare is already rationed and in the case of many in the USA simply not available. I notice that many Americans come to Canada for their medication.
  13. Privatization is not a quick fix for the health system Published On Fri Jan 7 2011 The Fraser Institute has recently called for a five-year suspension of the enforcement of the Canada Health Act, claiming that this would permit more “experimentation” with cost sharing and privatization, which would be a solution to access issues and sustainability of the health system. Cost sharing is a euphemism for double-dipping by physicians and user fees that lead to queue-jumping. Private delivery of health services using public funds is not precluded by the Canada Health Act, so those who think that, contrary to the evidence, private delivery would create savings, cannot claim that the act is a barrier to private delivery. However, most of the experience in Europe and the United States is that private hospitals and clinics engage in cherry-picking while the sickest, most complex patients are in the public or not-for-profit system — or are heavily subsidized by the public purse. http://www.thestar.com/opinion/editorialopinion/article/917635--privatization-is-not-a-quick-fix-for-the-health-system
  14. The government doesn't dictate what healthcare you spend your money on. If you opened your eyes you might realize that.
  15. You have the option. There are a variety of healthcare services already in the private sphere here in Canada for you to purchase.
  16. Maybe you should head south if you want to spend your money.
  17. Produce them. My son is a doctor and has worked in both the Canadian and American systems. While he certainly sees the need for improvement in the Canadian system he has indicated the American model is burdened with bureacratic structures created by the insurance companies and HMOs.
  18. Saipan sails his boat on one of the Great Lakes and is fond of his fascist roots.

  20. I challenge the premise of the question. While there is no doubt an aging population brings with it some issues of care those may be mitigated to some extent with a model that stresses positive lifestyle changes for those of all ages. Secondly a reallocation of human resources within the medical field is essential and this, in conjunction with technological change, should bring about more control on the expenditure side of the equation. It should be noted that government policy in the 90s resulted in decreased enrollment in the medical field specifically as it related to doctors and nurses.
  21. That is unfortunate but I understand the rational for such a decision. Although I have just recently signed on it appears to me there is a core group of people posting here with a variety of views on other side of any given issue. For the most part the discussions are respectful although for my part I may have crossed the line on a few occasions. I feel sites like this are a wonderful way for people to express their opinions in a manner otherwise not available without this wonderful tool called the internet.
  22. Aren't the Repugs talking about reneging on the debt.
  23. Thanks for the picture. Provide the name of the firm, Harper's job there and how long he spent with this particular firm. Or are you just blowing smoke again?
  24. I know the area and have worked on both Blaikie and Maloway campaigns in the past. My vote going to the Green won't matter and Maloway knows it. The Conservatives don't have a hope in hell of getting in this constituency.
