My Account Of One God-ism, Polytheism and Monotheism
Queenmandy85 replied to Exegesisme's topic in Religion & Politics
I came up with a theory that Moses was the nephew of Akhenaten. Akhenaten was influenced by the incredible volcanic explosion on Thera (Santorini) in the Agaean. The new religion was popular among the hebrew slaves. When Akhenaten was discredited by Ramses (Moses brother), Moses led the Hebrews out of Egypt. Nice theory. I ran it past one of the top Old Testament scholars in Canada. He listened patiently and then responded that Moses probably didn't exist. I posted this anecdote on another forum a few years ago and someone far brighter than me replied the it was okay, Moses probably didn't think Professor Jobling existed either.- 26 replies

Canada Needs Direct Election Of The Prime Minister

All parties have been faced with the problem of candidates saying (or having said in the past) something that seems like a good idea in the moment, but later comes across as not such a good idea. I want politicians to say what they think and I don't hold gaffs against them. We all say things that later appear as stupid. It does not mean we are stupid. Our politicians are a reflection of ourselves. However, new technology has allowed opponents to grasp everything we say and use it against us. Hence, candidates are wise to say nothing, unfortunately. In the words of the great Norman Wolf "Let your words be wiser than your silence or be silent. I never voted for Pierre Trudeau but he always gave me the impression that he was never afraid. I remember the 1968 St. Jean Baptiste parade where separatists began throwing bottles at Trudeau's box. His companions and his RCMP Security tried to pull Trudeau away. He shook them off and sat alone to face the attack. No fear. That is what I want to see in our politicians.

Canada Needs Direct Election Of The Prime Minister
Queenmandy85 replied to Exegesisme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why do we need a Prime Minister? There is no constitutional requirement to have a Prime Minister. If you eliminate the position of PM, you would probably lessen the current level of partisanship and strengthen the backbones of MP's. It could be a temporary measure to shake things up.- 195 replies

Canada Needs Direct Election Of The Prime Minister
Queenmandy85 replied to Exegesisme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper is only able to control the CPC caucus because the members let him. They have been held captive by their belief that he will get them re-elected. If you really want to reform Parliament, get out and get MP's elected who are not so venal and chicken. The Queen may appoint the Prime Minister but the PM serves at the pleasure of the Members of Parliament as well as the Crown.- 195 replies

I never type anything into a computer that I don't want to read on the front page of the Globe and Mail. That being said, we seem to be moving into an era where we may have much to learn from the people of North Korea on surviving in a surveillance state. I am even more concerned about the surveillance by my fellow citizens than I am by the Government. We make such an issue of C-51, yet so many of us plaster our private lives on Face Book etc.

So this is why I'll be voting Conservative
Queenmandy85 replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm undecided. I want a government that will switch our sources of energy from fossil fuels to nuclear. Nobody in the current government seems to have a clue about the long term effect increased levels of methane and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will have on the planet. Switching to nuclear power will give an incredible boost the the economy, particularly in western Canada while preserving our oil reserves to when they are actually worth something. (ie. $10,000 a barrel after the rest of the world has run out of oil). I am reluctant to vote for Harper or Mulcair because of their attack on the Senate. The best cure for the Senate is to have members appointed by the Crown. Leave the PM out of it. Anyone promoting an elected Senate clearly hasn't looked at the quality of people who have been elected in the past. Let the Crown appoint eminent people. I am reluctant to vote for Trudeau because of his attempt to bring in changes to the voting system. We tried that in BC in 1952 and ended up with W.A.C.Bennett's Socialist Credit crooks. I am left with Elizabeth May, but her party seems to have an irrational fear of nuclear power so what am I to do? -
Liberals on the Attack - Against Mulcair!
Queenmandy85 replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I campaigned for the Progressive Conservative Party in every Federal Election since 1962 until Peter MacKay stabbed the party in the back. Now, I just sit back and watch to see who is closest to the values of Sir John A. Most campaigns are decided in the last 7 to 10 days. Beyond that, making predictions is only a game. Predictions and public opinion polls mean nothing until after Thanksgiving. -
The full pay issue sounds like a matter between the employer and the Police Association. As for the criminal activity, I never open links as a matter of principled paranoia. If information is relevant, I always hope that it will be spelled out in the text. This individual is a reprobate, according to what you reprinted.

A ticket is not a presumption of guilt. It is a statement of evidence. This is what the officer saw did and heard. ie. I saw a vehicle of this make and model, colour with this licence plate number and in the case of a traffic violation, operated by this person with this operator's permit. The vehicle in question was observed travelling at this rate of speed in this location, or parked in this location under these circumstances. In her notes, the officer may record the number of passengers and perhaps a brief description of each. It is up to the court to determine guilt or innocence. In the case of impounding a vehicle or a roadside suspension, remember that use of the road is a priviledge, not a right. The best way to avoid sanctions is to drive leagally.

Canadian Federal Party Leaders Debates
Queenmandy85 replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I do not believe the debates provide any indication of who would make the best Prime Minister. The fast quip and brilliant put down does not indicate competence in running a Government. Yes, it is entertaining, but are we electing a clown or a government leader. -
Ontario Liberals introduce cap and trade
Queenmandy85 replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
TimG wrote: "With CO2 there are no technically feasible alternatives so cap™ can never accomplish its stated goals." Actually, nuclear power is a much better alternative. Leave the oil in the ground until Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the U.S. run out of oil and then our oil will be worth something. We have enough nuclear fuel in Western Canada to provide lots of energy until fusion comes on line. -
Building demolition involves high explosives being set in a precise manner throughout the structure. I takes weeks to set the charges. How many employees in the buildings (thousands survived) noticed strangers laying primacord and high explosives in their work spaces. If I came to work on that Tuesday morning and found my office wired up with detonators and charges, I think I would ask some questions. Funny, nobody did.

Indiana "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" controversy
Queenmandy85 replied to kimmy's topic in Religion & Politics
The point is, it is not just gender or sexual orientation that is at risk. This bill allows discrimination against anyone on the grounds of religion, race or politics. -
Indiana "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" controversy
Queenmandy85 replied to kimmy's topic in Religion & Politics
It would appear that this legislation would also permit refusal to serve blacks or jews or roman catholics on religious grounds. You name the group and there will be a religious denomination that would be able to invoke this nonsense bill.
