  1. says the guy who has denounced Canada as a foreign enclave.. Whatever...
  2. He does believe it. Even when he writes one thing then the total opposite.
  3. Fact is... there was probably as many reasons why the accord was rejected as there were people who rejected it.
  4. You forget... Quebec should not be part of Canada, or so claims Leafless.
  5. Slipping and admitting it is one thing. Slipping and making it worse by adding to it rather that just say "oops" is something different. It's not the mistakes, it's how their authors deal with it.
  6. Sinc I have put the link once and I am putting again (link), pay a visit to Fact check; it is a non-partisan site that debunks "facts" put forward by both campaiiiigns, through checking the facts and analysing them; beats the "if it's bad, it must be true". If you believe the Vice-Charman of the Independence party, will you believe the President of the Party (who happens to be his wife, but hey), who after saying that Palin had been a member, Apologized ON THE PARTY'S WEBSITE, stating that she hadn't checked the information provided by another party official. The Director of Alaska's Division of Elections confirmed that Palin has always registered as a Republican, and that her husband was at one point registered as a member of the Independence Party. According to the Party, Sarah Palin paid a visit to their convention twice: in 2000 in Wasilla, when she was mayor, and in 2006, when she was campaigning. It is not clear if she attended the 1994 convention, also held in Wasilla. As for the librarian, the story reported by the local newspaper Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman and later corraborated by Anne Kilkenny, a local resident who was at the meeting and has since written opinion pieces critical of Palin, is that Palin did not ask how she could go about banning book, but what would be her (the librarian's) reaction to a request to ban certain books. Not the same. It is interesting to note that the list of books some claim were banned by Palin before 2000 include some Harry Potter novels written AFTER 2000; the infamous list is actually an exxact copy of a list on the Florida Institute of Technology's web site of books banned at one point or another in some US libraries (complete with typos). And while it is a fact that Palin briefly fired the librarian for lack of support, ALL of the department heads who had supported Palin's opponent in the election were either fired or threatened with firing. There is enough that is wrong with Palin without taking at fact every tidbit of misindormation.
  7. True for the lawyers... not so for doctors or dentists.
  8. From "immigrants are rejects" to "baby boomers are scum'> whatever.
  9. We have to admire the wonderful logic. Quebec as a society is foreign to Canada but not distinct from it.
  10. No. It just claims that "they don't like us" (Albertan rightwinger whining every time the Liberals win a federal election) or "they hate America" (traditional right wing chant). You are right on one thing though... if Gore and Bush's place had been the reverse in 2000, the right would not have mentioned fraud or conspiracy... they would have blamed immigrants, the ppor, gays, lesbians, etc. etc. etc., and probably one or two would have called for the Army to seize power. Let's check... Two years as a state governor. Four years as a US Senator. Pretty much the same to me... except that one knows what the questions are about. And the party of choice of those who believe women should adopt June Cleaver as a role model makes an exception when it comes to her, because of her political views. Over the past eight years, the Bush Administration and its allies have made opposition to Roe vs Wade the litmus test of what made a good candidate to the US Supreme Court. Social conservatives are counting on Palin to help influence McCain towards getting more conservative minded judges on the bench. Biizarre, isn't it, that the Republican line is that she is eminently qualified to sit in the Oval Office if needed (the sole reason for the existence of the Office of the Vice-President), but the moment that is questionned the alternate line is "who cares, she is not running for the job". You mean the people who think helping others getting trained for jobs, helping youth at risks, supporting tenant groups and organizing voters' drive is something wrong also want voters to believe that someone who needed to hire an administrator to run a city of 7000 inhabitants could manage a country of over 300 million people if needed. You are talking about her personal e-mail account that she has allegedly used to conduct state business in an effort to circumvent state laws that mandate retention of government electronic records? hacking is a crime, and the individuals who broke the law should be punished accordingly. So should Palin, if she indeed used her own personal e-mail account in order to avoid legal public scrutiny of her activities and dealings as governor.
  11. You're right. The Right's reaction is not frustration. It's anger on this side of the border, and hatred down South.
  12. I don't claim it is. But it is based on years of being bombarded by the rhetoric of social conservatives claiming that a woman's place is at home... unless of course she is a social conservative politician.
  13. A bit lose with a few facts, aren't we? Sarah Palin was never a member of the Alaska Independence Party, not as she banned any library books (although she has raised the issue as an hypothetical question when she was mayor, and btw some of the books appearing on a list of titles she allegedly banned had not even been written yet at that time). (link)
  14. OK let's split hairs.... He doesn't know how to spell
  15. You wouldn't even have to go looking for quotes directed at democratic/liberal candidates... hateful comments from people who "loves America" but hate most Americans in it would suffice, and even just that would not be a match, it would be a flood.
  16. Dr. Laura's quotation is great one. After all, here we have a RIGHT-WING commentator who sticks to her view that women with young children should stay home, instead of making an exemption for Sarah Palin, as many social conservatives are doing after years and years of saying that the place of any woman is in the home. So yes, so comments directed at Sarah Palin have been disgraceful. But Denounciations of it coming from the social conservative ranks are a bit hypocritical. And no, a comment about Palin views is not sexist just because she is a woman. PS: If Barack Obama was a woman, there would be no shortage of comments about how "her" being a woman is enough of a disqualification, children or no children, and in terms far worse than what has been directed at Palin.
  17. The turth being that the death of a Liberal MP (or a MP from any other party) from listeria is a good thing?
  18. She appproved the budget proposal from the police department that included charging rape victims for the kits. As the mayor, with power to hire and fire chief of police at will, and a say on budget issue, she had the capacity to block the idea. Her inaction forced the Governor to step in.
  19. Not confusing issues a bit are you? FACT 1: In the 1990's, shortly after Palin became mayor of the town of Wasilla, she fired the chief of the local police. There was stong suspicion that this was pay back for the polocy chief having supported the former mayor during the election. FACT 2, unrelated: Busget records from the ciity of Wasilla indicate that the police started charging rape victims for the cost of the rape kit in 1998-1999, more than one year after the previous chief of policy had been fired. The policy was apparently an idea of the new chief of police, not Palin even though she approved the bydget that included it When the State passed a law in 2000 banning this practice, the chief of police protested on the ground it would cost the taxpayers about $15000 a year (less then $3 per habitant). FACT 3: Unreleted: The "TrooperGate scandal" being investigated has nothing to do with facts 1 or 2, except for Palin's name.
  20. To those who believe that the US health care system is the top, a few facts: - in 2003, the US rare of death of children below the age of five was higher than in Canada, Japan, S. Korea, Malaysia, Brunei, Australia, N. Zealand, Cuba, and all European countries except former communist countries (link) - in the WHO statitistics on life expectency published in 2007, the USA ranked 32nd, both for men and women. Canada was in the top ten (link) - a WHO study a few years back (sorry, can't find the link) ranked the Canadian health care system as the 30th best in the wrold; the US system was ranked 36th. There is place for serious improvement in the Canadian health care system; the US model is definitely not the one to adopt..
  21. Apart of the unwarranted insult at Alaska, right on.
  22. Actually, it is. Don't be fooled by the fact Leafles doesn't know how to use it.
  23. Less we forget... Guyser's posting that mocks your claim that Canada is a foreign enclave is a hate filled message, but you are free to deny half of the time than I am Canadian.
  24. English and French mandated in the delivery of provincial services, and the delivery of municipal services in some Ontario municipality, and on commercial signs in some municipality (the de facto situation in Ontario) is something so wrong that only the banning of the French language from even commercial signs is an appropriate response. But mandating Ennglish and a second language (other than French, of course) is all fine.
