It is a bit more than small town cheaps. It is abuse of the power of Governor's office for personal gain (in this case, settling a personal score).

Less we forget... saying that racists and bigots are racists and bigots is quelling their freedom of expression. And it is coming to the defense of the ennemy. Here's one guy who thinks that our troops are fighting a good fight in Afghanistan and who finds it insulting that the measure of our support to our troops is how loud we applaud garbage. -

Confidentiality and secrecy exist to protect sensitive information. Stupid "jokes" like "please tell me the person who died is a political opponent" are NOT information. So the Minister might not trust his bureaucrats in the future? If I were a bureaucrat, I would not trust that the Minister will take seriously issues I bring to the table. -

Nice to see there are some who find racism to be a joke. That being said, unless there were some irregularities, if they got the contract, they got the contract. -

Not quite. he wants a referendum, which he believes would make his dream of having the French language banned a reality. So... Who should tell him that most polls show that the vast majority of Canadians agree (at least in theory) with the concept of official bilingualism? -

We're talking about the Quebec Act of 1774, right? Because if you are talking about Quebec's language law, everyone who has a clue knows that nothing similar exists anywhere else in the country. -

That would be plain Joe. And yes, the language in which I form my thoughts is usually French (a Canadian language, btw). That's what most Ontario Francophones do. Sorry to burst your "the Francophones in Ontario are all from Quebec" upcoming bubble. -

The fact that YOU call Canada a foreign enclave aside, nice to know that you admit you want to dictate things. Less we forget. The Charter is wrong because it does not include something (a "special status" for Quebec) you didn't want it to be included. Whatever. That's how the Charter was implemented too. And we can count on you to explain how Trudeau allegedly gave Quebec special status. Of course, it will also be up to you to explain why Trudeau opposed both meech Lake and Charlottetown... after all, he made it clear he was against them because they included dispositions stating that Quebec was a distinct society. -

English is not native to Canada either. I suppose that according to your latest "logic" that makes English a foreign language too. True logic however indicates that both English and French are Canadian languages. Good thing the main language in the US isn't Mandarin, you'd be attacking the rights of CANADIAN English speakers too. I didn't even know there was a game named Russian. In the meantime, if you are to make a fool of yourself by comparing me to a murderous tyrant, I'll settle than no less than Mao I deserve that much, don't I? By that logic, I suppose English is aforeign language to me. And that I am wrong to consider it a Canadian language. So now you know what the Finns think of the Swedish language? Then you know something even they don't know, considering that since 1919 (the year Finland became independant) , Finnish and Swedish are designated in the country's Constitution as Finalnd's national languages, with the exact same status. In one posting, they're trying to preserve an obsolete language, in another they're not. make up your mind, will you? -
Palin Derangement Syndrome
CANADIEN replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Those who think that the legal landscape regarding abortion is unlikely to change if McCain hts elected shouldn't be saying that to pro-choicers. They should say that to those on the religious right that were fleeing McCain but are now flocking in back in drove because Palin is on the ticket. Those who make opposition to Roe vs Wade the litmus test of which politicians deserve their vote. Those who salivate at the thought of another liberal judge going away and being replaced by an ultra-conservative. They seem to believe that a Republican victory will bring them what they want. -

It's because I've looked it up that I know French is a Canadian language. And btw, I find it insulting to be called a little Hitler. I DEMAND to be called a little Mao  English translation, please? Let me see... Finland is a country, not a province, therefore Swedish is not a foreign language in Finland. But Canada is a country, not a province, therefore French is a foreign language in Canada. Whatever. I wonder what language foreign to France the French government is trying to preserve. -

It is what it is considered to be by YOU. Most everyone understands that there is a difference between a regional language and a foreign language, As for my alledged lack of comprehension, you got a point (rare, but it happens) - it is indeed difficult to comprehend how someone can be as clueless as you are. BTW, prey tell... is Scottish Gaellic a language foreign to the United Kingdom? Or Basque to Spain? Or Swedish to Finland? Because these are widely considered as regional languages in those respective countries, and formally recognized as such. Of course, you will say "French came from France"... about 400 years ago, and generations of Canadians since have preserved and use it. And of course, that makes it as much a Canadian language as... English. -

It is because we all ready that everyone on this thread laugh at you. You know of ocurse that the Charter pre-dates the Charlottetown Accord, and the Charlottetown Referendum was about the Charlottetown Accord, not the Charter. and you know of course that that there was no referendum on the Meech Lake Accord. Oops, I forgot, it's you. You don't know. And to quote your own words, either there are no federal document OF ANY KIND (your own words) granting a special status to Quebec, or the Charter (a federal document) grants such a status. Make up your mind, will you? PS: You are of course welcome at any time to show the exact wwords in the Constitution (including the Charter) that gives any province a special status. -

I thought it was a foreign enclave. Make up your mind will you? You mean French-speaking Canadians. Nice of you to finally admit it. Thanks, but I've already visited France before. Next trip will be Greece, and England after that. And I'll pack myself, but thanks for offering. -

Either there are no federal documents granting a special status to Quebec, or there is at least one, namely the Charter. Make up your mind, will you? -

What you have done on this site is denouncing my country, Canada, denigrating it, insulting its head of State (I may not be a Monarchist, but until proven otherwise the Queen is the Head of State of my country). You don't like Canada, let me help you pack and show you the way out. -
Palin Derangement Syndrome
CANADIEN replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Checking facts means seeking reliable of information, not sources that confirm your made-in-advance opinions. Sarah Palin has never been a registered member of the Alaska Independence Party, and no amount of "but her husband was" and "she's nice to them" and "she shares some of their goals" will change that FACT. Sarah Palin never tried to impose censorship iin libraries while a state governor. She asked hypothetical questions about censorship while a MAYOR, and as FastCheck and other sources has indicated, their is no conclusive indication that those questions and the response were the motivation for her attempt at firing the local librararian. Your belief (and mine) that Palin is a dangerous right-winger will not change that FACT. Regarding the Troopergate, Factcheck has presented the FACTS as they are known, not speculations. I too believe there is more to the story than the known FACTS, but until more of the facts are revealed, speculations are just that, speculations. As for creationism, it is nothing mre than an attempt at masquerading one aspect of the truth (religion) as another aspect of the truth (science). And I am weary of any politician who wants to make it pass at science. But as Factcheck has indicated, Sarah Palin may be a creationist, but nothing in her declarations or actions as a State Governor amounts to an attempt at puuuushing creationism in the curriculum. You find them unrealable because they don't reach the same conclusions as you. I find them realable because they do their homework. -

Thanks for letting us know that the Township doesn't want the case to be heard by a judge able to speak and understand English. This beg the question though. If one of the languages is French and English is not the second one, then what is it? Is it Auvergnat? Bedawi? Chiga? Denende? Enindhilyagwa? Farsi? Gagauz? Haussa? Inuktituk? Javanese? Kurundi? Lower Sorbian? Moriori? Nheehgatu? Ossetian? Porome? Quechuan? Rumantsch? Sanskrit? Tongan? Udege? Venda? West Frisian? Xiang? Yoruba? Or another language (couldn't find a Z). What language other than English does the township wants the judge to be able to speak, besides French? In Canada, Canadian judges preside at trials. Will be the same this time. Most Ontarians, you excluded, will want the judge to rule according to law. You of course, believe that judges will make decisions based on what their first language is. I find it insulting... to English-speaking judges. BTW, there has been a French-speaking community in Russell Township, living in French, for close to 150 years. Nothing artificial. I'll pass on the rest of the drivel. -

People who have a clue recognize their spelling errors when they've told about it, me included. Others, the clueless one, persist in their mistake and defend it, like they do every time their non-sensical drivel is debunked.
