What is your take on Sarah Palin?

He also suffered greatly because he was an overgrown boy-scout. I believe he was the most decent individual to have occupied the White House since WWII. And the worst President until Bush Jr came aboard. -

So good of you to let me know I wasn't called a rabid hateful msogynist bigot. After all, I was so defensive that the thought that Pliny was calling me anything like that never crossed my mind. On a more serious note. What she said dring her election campaign about the bridge (supporting) and about the opposition to it (expressing outrage that some would call it a bridge to nowhere) is documented. What she did and said when she realized that opposition from Congress was such that she couldn't count on federal funding, and that the bridge would cost more than what was budgetted for - she cancelled it, saying that the lack of interest from Congress made it necessary to find "better ways" to serve the needs of the local community - is documented. And mind you, that was her only option. And the fact that she claimed last week that she had said "no thanks" to Congress (I thought their lack of interest was the reason why she had said no) and used the same term (bridge to nowhere) she used to find offensive is very well documented. Any other fact to add to the story? -

My apologies. I said something bad about Saint Sarah. Who is anyone to claim she was flip-flopping when she did it and then... err interpreted the fact in from of a country-wide audience? -

Oprah has decided that no candidate, that is NO candidate, would be invited to her show during the campaign, and that's biased? That's even, as some people have suggested, racist? Give me a break. As for those you say "but she invited Obama... twice", she indeed did it, BEFORE he announced his candidacy. -
She is a Canadian citizen too. There is no law against it. Besides, we have had at least one recent PM born in another country - John Turner. Say what you want about his tenure, but his performance was surely not related to where he was bron. We could also add to the list most of the early PMs, including Macdonald, but as Canada was then a British colony, that's not quite the same.

Absolutely not. First, she chose to live in Canadda, and to become a Canadian citizen. So she was born elsewhere... So what? Unless one can provide any information that would lead people to believe she would choose another country's interest vefore Canada's, I view that detail insignificant...... Second, I am sure that some will point to the American Constitution. Fine, by the U.S.A. of 1787 is not the Canada of 2008. The young United States was small, poor, and the possibility of foreign powers trying to control it directly or indirectly was real. That risks is a lot less these days.

So, abortion is wrong not because the foetus is alive, but because women should face the consequences of their actions? And what are girls'' actions that lead to incest? -

Actually, she doesn't oppose contraception or education about it. There is already plenty to dislike in her world view and her policies; no need to add to it. -

You mean that good old police and intelligence work would not have worked? That there is no way that the police could have got a warrant using normal procedures based on what they knew? -

And Moscow had a lot less crime when Stalin was in power that during the days of Yeltsin. You don't hear often about terrorist acts in North Korea. Amazing how the same people who cry "Freedom, Freedom" are willing to sacrifice it. -
Russell by-law spat sparks bilingual study

Is that the best you can come with? Oops, I forgot, that IS the best you can come with. You, on the hand, want to force English on others by banning other languages from commercial signs. Thanks for reminding me I am not Canadian. So, CRIMINALS and COWARDS who threaten to kill elected politicians over a municipal by-laaaaws are representative of a majority of Canadians? Or as usual, is your bigotry so strong that you imagine that most people think, like you, that this is an appropriate course of action? -

You find the British contribution to Canada something to laugh about? Bizarre, i find it to be something to be happy about. Unless of course it is English that is forced. Now I really really really feel offended. You used to compare me to Hitler and Mugabe, but now I am just an anonymous dictator? -

Saying "you know what, now that Congress won't pay for it, we cannot afford it" would have been one thing. Even saying "shame on those Democrats for opposing a good and useful project" would have been good enough. But she went way further, saying " I said to Congress 'thanks but not thanks' to that bridge to nowhere". In one sentence, she used the same words she had denounced as an insult to Alaska less than 18 months earlier, described as wasteful a project she was praising when she thought that Congress would pay for it. and claimed she stopped Congress from putting money in a project that CONGRESS didn't want to fund. Sarah Palin has not called the war in Iraq a part of God's plan. Bad enough that she prays that a n unjustified war founded on a lie be part of God's plan. As a Christian, she should already know it is not. -

Using the same criteria used regularly by social conservatives. And she is not a lousy parent. Care to quote where someone has shown enough lack of knowledge and intelligence that they would clame that anything Palin did during her pregnancy caused her baby to have Down's syndrome? But let's face it, no matter the condition of the baby, flying for 12 hours after her water broke just so that the baby would be born at home is NOT a sign of good judgement. And people arguing it are wrong. But let's not forget that social conservatives have been arguing for decades that mothers who really love their children should stay at home, no matter the children's health condition. -

That's the same Steyn who, on September 12, 2001, cast part of the blame for the events of the previous day (we all remeber what they were, don't way) on SOCCER MOMS and their demands for spending oon education instead of defense. I wonder if she finds anything wrong about soccer or hockey moms now that one of them brings his type of political ideas to the forefront. I must say though I am not surprised that Mr. Steyn does not want people helping other people in his community. -

I forgot that has long as a person is a social conservative/christian fundamentalist, he/she shows high principles when jumping on the bandwagon when a project is popular (and funded by the federal government after intense lobbying by the State of Alaska and Alaska's members of Congress), then jump off the bandwagon and denounce the project when it becomes evident. I expect politicians to wear flip flops, but Palin showing pride in it is pushing the enveloppe. PS: The infamous road built with money Alaska did not return to Congress when the bridge was caancelled leads to only one place... the site of the bridge that now will not be built. Why do I think that's a waste of money? Thanks for reminding of what the actual spelling of last name of the man is. And for reminding me that the Republican party and some of its members and supporters seem to be suffering of collective amnesia when it comes to the things they have said and done in the past. -

Thank you for reminding me that Sarah Palin is a formidable super-qualified candidate who can do the job... until there is any criticism of her and question as whether or not she is qualified; then it's "but she is not running for President". As I always said, neither one's resume tells me if they are qualified or not. -

And who do you think people who set up retraining and litteracy programs, programs to help youth at risks, tenants associations, voter registration drives, or for that matter people who sit on PTAs (Sarah Palin's first involvement in public life) work with and for? Those people are not ordinary enough for your taste? If that's so, you are the clueless one.
