  1. Sounds more like a Conservative measure.....well, at least a Republican measure. All the Liberal scandals aside, you really cannot fault them their economic stewartship of Canada. They have after all lowered our debt and brought the budget under control. Canada is one of the very few first world industrial nations to actually have a surplus. The Liberals are really small c-Conservatives at heart. And to be perfectly honest, I trust Harper about as far as I can throw the bugger. I find his ideology, world view and thinking far too close to that of Bush and Co for comfort. And as a ex-member of the CAF, I am very glad he was not in power when the US invade (illegally at that) Iraq, because he would of sent our troops into that mess without missing a beat. And before you think I am anti-military, you would be wrong. I support the effort in Afghanistan, after all that nation and its Taliban leadership were harbouring and protecting OSL and AQ. I would vote Conservative again, if we really had a Conservative Party, but sadly once again I will have to cast my vote for either the NDP or Liberals, depending on which Party has the better chance of denying the CCRAP party my riding. I am hoping the Harper gets bitch slapped silly this time and we old Progressive Conservative can claim back our party.
  2. What about the Korean war, was that also a mistake? And Yaro, how do you feel about the Americans defeating the Soviets in the Cold War? In your view, did the "right" side win? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My father fought in Korea and was an unintentional guest of the Chinese Army......his take on the war.....not f'ing worth it.
  3. Maybe better build cars would help sell CAW built cars. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're right, but there's more to it than that. Most of the Hondas, Toyotas, etc, which are sold here are not made here, and most of their parts are not made here. Most are shipped in from Korea and Japan. And both nations put all sorts of trade barriers in front of those who would export cars to their countries. If we made the same kind of nitpicking inspections of every Japanese car, for example, at the wharf, that the Japanese insist on for North American cars you'd have car carriers backed up all the way to Japan. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have you checked under the hood of your North American car lately? Odds are a large percentage of contains component from Asia, and in some cases, the whole damn thing was build overseas and shipped here.....after being rebadged that is. The trouble with North Amercian manufactures have cracking the Asian export market area: A) Quality, hate to say it, but Ford, GM and Chylser products are crap, especially the smaller models. Size, we here in NA have a hard on for power and size, bigger, faster is better. Trouble is, most Asian nations and drivers do not want nor can use a gas guzzling SUV or whatever. C) Costs. You can get more car for your Yen or CNY by buying Asian then you can by buying NA imports. This all being said, there is some export of NA built cars to Asia, just not as many as coming in from that part of the world. And here is something else for you to consider. The most popular highway tractor on our NA highways is now Volvos, not Macs, Peterbuilds or Kenworths.
  4. It was apparently a REPUBLICAN Senator....seem's they were having a meeting and discussing that matter.......go figure.......
  5. I can agree with the lawyer part of your statement, but would argue that we should start with so-called Financial Planners before Insurance Agents. A good Insurance Agent does serve a somewhat usefull purpose, whereas Finanical Planners really do not. For the most part they seem to be willing to sell you any junk insurance policy/investment plan while attempting to rope you into their circle of sub-agents. Financial Planners, the true bottom feeders of the MLM world.......
  6. Canadian aggression? Sorry, but I think the term you are groping for is retaliation, not aggression. The first strikes came from south of the 49th, not north. And I firmly believe its about bloody time Canadian politicos found their 'nads when it comes to dealing with the US. And I am well aware of the potential cost of an all out trade war with the US entails, indeed my very livelihood depends of Canada/US trade. However, that does not mean I believe that Canada and Canadians should roll over and expose their bellies like some whimpering cur everytime Uncle Sugar decided to roger us up the backside trade-wise. I for one firmly believe that it was one of Canada's biggest mistakes to become so reliant and entangled with US trade and openly advocate finding other markets for our goods and services. Luckily both China and India's economies are coming on strong and have a marked appitite for our exports. And given the size of those two markets alone, they could in a few years times become more important to Canada then the US. Think about it, the US market is some 260 Million souls, whereas the combined market of both China and India are in the excess of 3 Billion souls. From a market stand point, capturing 1% of the combined China/India market is more valuable then capturing 10% of the US market.
  7. What an utter load of bullocks...but then given your choice of nickname, its not all that surprisings.
  8. Are you nuts? Have you the slightest clus as to how much the Softwood industry contributes to the Canadian economy? Not just here in BC, but also in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec? Strongly suggest you do a little research on the industry.
  9. I take it that my Alma Mater, BCIT did not make that list? Now that really really sucks, especially now that BCIT has degree certified programmes as well as diploma only programmes and is widely considered to be the priemier Technical School in Canada, on par with MIT in the states, especially in the fields of robotics. I studied Logistics there years and years ago, and out of a original intake of of 26 students, only 13 survived to graduate. (Only the top 26 of over a thousand applicants were accepted each year....how I got accepted, god only knows) Of my original intake, we had two UBC Poli-Sci (isn't Political Science an oxymoron on the scale of Military Intelligence?) grads who bailed after the first semister, seems our work load was a tad bit too insane for them. Most of those who bailed from the Logistics programme went into easier programmes, Management Systems, Human Resource Managment, Marketing or even Financial Management. Although I am extremely proud and pleased with myself at having not only survived and but also graduated from the BCIT Logistics programme with a fairly respectable placing, I was a bit browned off as well. The work load at BCIT is staggering. The year starts right after Labour Day and continues well into May with finals. On average, BCIT students have between 30 to 40 hours of class and lab time per week(depending on the programme and term), after which they have to make time for studies and projects, of which there is usually three major projects per term. What most BCIT students accomplish in their two years programme, most SFU and UBC students will not nor are expected to accomplish in their four years at Uni...and for all that effort, BCIT students walk away with only a diploma and not a degree...bummer.....
  10. The day America takes over Canada or even Mexico is the day that the US will learn the true meaning of pain and grief........I've already got my targets picked.
  11. Notice how be uses selective "Optics" to comepletely miss all the big business ads that ran here for MONTHS before the election? "Look how good BC is doing now!" Of course they were bull, just as the liberal and Asper/fraser institute media claims of "Economy better than ever" claims are bull. Check Stats Canada econometric data - the liberals have been a disaster for the BC economy. Its better now than it ever has been UNDER THE LIBERALS - but up one level from pure crap is still crap. Of course the liberals conveniently forget that homelessness in BC has quadrupled under their watch and is expected to double by next year. Its a great way to get unemployment stats down - if you're homeless you aren't in the unemployment stat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, the election is over and they won...so you can expect more of the same for the next four years........if you are big business or friends of Campbell, its happy times...if your are middle to lower income....the only thing your can do is bend over, spread your cheeks and pray they use some lube.
  12. I've met the man.......does the term "Used Car Saleman" ring a bell? I trust the sod about as far as I can toss both him and Doris, I mean Stockwell Day together. Right wing extremism frightens me equally as much as Left wing extremism. To me, Harper is Bush Lite dressed up in the Maple Leaf and I strongly suspect that he will quite cheerfully toss the Maple Leaf to the ground and don the Stars and Stripes....especially if he can turn a quick buck or two on the deal. Make no mistake, Harper is not for Canada but for himself and his big money cronies. He amply demonstrated this by jumping into bed with the BQ in a vain attempt to fornicate the entire of Canada. Sad thing is, I held membership with the PCP and when it was swolled up by the Canadian Reform Alliance Party, hencefore to known as CRAP, I quit. There is no room in the CAC for moderates and small c-Conservative such as myself.
  13. How sad that Canada still elects people of this mindset. I'm so tired of these sick puppies being in our House of Commons. Fletcher should do the honourable thing and resign his seat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sincerely apologize? Yes. Resign? Sadly no. And this is coming from a person with Japanese people in his immediate family and who had family fighting on both side of the Pacific War in WWII.
  14. Actually Canada's national debt is about average with that of other industrialized nations and has in fact been shrinking steadily over the past ten or so year, due in part to the somewhat draconian measures of Paul Martin when he was the Finance Minister. One could say that Martin was the best Conserative Finance Minister this country has ever had. The nation that hold the honour (or dishonour depending on you point of view) of having the largest and arguable most unmanagable national debt it the USA. And said debt has been growing by leap and bounds under the current Bush Neo-con administration. Funny thing was, that under Clinton, the US was actually lowering both its debt and spending. If you want to see what Canada's spending and debt would be like under Harper and the CA, one doesn't have to look any further then south of the border. Increased spending, ballooning debt and deminishing services. That is Harpers vision of our Nation. On a side note, I met the man once and shook his hand.....he struck me as a used car sellsman trying to pawn off a really bad lemon to me. After shaking his hand, I beat feet to the nearest washroom and spent ten minutes trying to scrub the slime off.
  15. or perhaps it is an American accent you are hearing....after all a number of their states tried to separate from the union and look at the results....fours years of bloody civil war and upteem thousands dead.....
  16. The opening article must of been written by someone who got a hold of waaay too much BC Bud.
  17. I supported the Conservative Party (apart from the Lyin' Brian era) most of my adult life and would dearly love to be able to support it again. However, we no longer have a Conservative Party in Canada that is Canadian, what we have today is a bunch of Neo-Con Rednecked clown 'Merican wannabes who would cheerfully break our nation apart and sell it peicemeal off to Uncle Sugar down south. As corrupt as the Liberals maybe, they are at least still Canadian, sadly the same can nolonger be said about the CA...........They are traitors pure and simple, their guilt of that charge is self evident, any one who crawls in bed with the BQ for political gain can be nothing other then a traitor, deserving a traitors fate. And no Greg before you PM me again, this is not a troll...it is my heart felt opinion.
  18. As an ex-Progressive Conservative card hold, I can say with all honesty that Harper needs to be dragged out into the streets of Ottawa and shot down dead like the mangy, rabid, dieased dog he is. The unholy alliance between the PQ and CA is just that unholy, or perhaps more telling. I've always suspected that the CRAP faction that shanghied the PCP were all about breaking up our wonderful nation and selling peicemeal to the US. If those two arseholes force an election, I will once again hold my nose and vote Liberal.....not because I like the Liberals or believe that they are pure and noble, but because at this time in Canadian history, I view them as the lesser of two evils. With a bit of luck, the CA will get so badly spanked in a forced election that the PC's can regain control of the party, and give Harper, Day and the rest of the Albertan Neo-Con Yankee wannabe crowd a swift and hard kick out the flippin' door. Till that happen, this small c Conservative will cast his single vote to the party most likely to keep the CA at bay.....just as I am going to cast it for the NDP on Tuesdays BC Provincial election.
  19. I've vote in every election I have been able to vote in every since I got the francise....more often then not, I voted not because I beleived in the candidate I voted for but because I sure as hell didn't want the other guy in......Tuesday, we hold our BC Provincial Election and I will be voting NDP...not because I am a dyed in the wool NDP'er, but because I want to see that lying bunch of bullsh*t artist calling themselves Liberals and their convicted felon of a leader turfed from office before they screw us even more then they already done.
  20. What do the tories have to do to win the next general elections???? Two words......Lose Harper.
  21. The EU has not only caught up with the US in technological prowless, in many cases it as surpassed it. While R&D funding has been slashed in the US, in the EU it has steadily been increasing to the point now where the EU nations spend almost twice as much on R&D as does the US. If and when the EU nations can agree on and fully intragrate their various Armed Forces, it will have a land and air military capability equal to that of the US. The joker in this deck of card to watch in Russia. If it ever joins the EU as a full partner, then the US military will be more then matched in all combat environments. Economically, the EU is in a much stronger position then the US, having retained much of its own home grown manufacturing base. Also, the Euro is looking a lot more attractive to investors then the US dollar which has been steadily declining in value these past few months. I would argue that the EU is in it ascendence while the US in its decline. The new super states will be the EU and China.
  22. All I can say is..... Phuck that idea and horse it rode in on.....
  23. If America went back to the 1950's? Let see, Israel came into being in 1948, largely with the backing, support and protection of the US.....so no change there. North Korea did invade South Korea in 1950. The US interviened and invaded South Korea in return and would of forcably reunified the two nations had not that moron MacArthur tugged on the Chinese Tigers tail at the Chosen Reservor.....so no change It was during the late 40's and early 50's that the US placed bases in Germany, Turkey, and Japan. As for Saudi Arabia, as long as the US is addicted to light crude, hen teh Saudi's will have little to worry about.....so again, no change. This is possible, however, the US has always been attracted to cheap goods from third world nations. Maybe, maybe not.......one thing is for sure....the world would be a bit more peacefull without the US sticking its nose into everyone else's business..
  24. Not just right wingers, but also left wingers and centralist such as myself.....sadly MS seems to be on the far far left wing at times...as evidence with his posting re Banning Trucks and Registering Knives....you have to admit......those were really really loopy.
