Are you advocating that democracy morph to anarchy? Dolt!

Then Time is wrong. I was a salesman in the oilpatch at the time, calling on GCOS and Syncrude. Sorry you believe your local propaganda.

McGuinty won't apologize for secret G20 law
RNG replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Intent is far more significant, IMO. the G-20 thugs just wanted to break and burn things. That's what they went there for. That deserves serious sanctions. An assault, if provoked could be way less serious, again depending on the exact circumstances. -

As is constantly being demonstrated by our courts, it is very dependent on the circumstances. And that's one of the reasons I tend to lean against minimum sentences. There is no answer in less than probably 100 pages to your question, and even then, the conclusion would be a far more eloquent variation of "it depends....." -
Rumsfeld had a great quote once. He told a reporter words to the effect "you have used impeccable logic to reach an illogical conclusion because you started with a false premise." This is a false premise. I don't see how 1 & 2 lead to 3.

I wasn't the least bit offended by your post. I should have just hit "add reply" without linking to yours. But thx.

Again I have never studied the results of Senate votes, but the implication of every news story I have read related to Senate positions has implied that they do in fact vote the party line.

My reading of the relatively data poor stories about this I have read so far leads me to think that they are not looking at opening bases, per se, but negotiating use agreements for existing bases in other countries, so that should the need arise, logistical support for an operation can be established quickly.

Think about it. What would your opinion be if, I know this is stretching the bounds of credibility, that the NDP were in power and some page held up a "Stop Happy Jack" sign? You would go ballistic.

UN cast Canada's laws in same light as Vietnam, Zimbabwe
RNG replied to bjre's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The USA's main ally may be the UK, but our main ally is you guys. We are charter members of NATO. The UN stuff sucks. And I don't think us going into Afghanistan had anything to do with the UN. -
I have internally debated that many times, over many years. Do we want judges who pander to the masses? But do we want judges who as lawyers were more adept than their colleagues at sucking political privates?

UN cast Canada's laws in same light as Vietnam, Zimbabwe

We made a limited time commitment to help our main ally, the US. It's like having an asshole brother. He may be sort of out of it, but he's your brother so you support him. -
Hyperbole much? Get a grip on reality.

I think the US is screwing up, big time, trying to make Iraq and Afghanistan democracies. It takes a tradition of respecting those values. Same with the so-called Arab spring. No way. Africa is the perfect example. Stopping, or at least slowing down Al Qeada was the right thing to try, but just look at Karzie et al. What a joke. -
The problem as I see it is that no constituency really has an overwhelming attitude to most issues. So how can the theoretical elected Senator represent his constituents. I am sick and tired of hearing politicians say "the majority of Canadians think xxxx." Every time I have heard this, I didn't think xxxx and neither did any of my friends and colleagues. I want non-binding referrenda (if that's the plural) attached to every local, provincial and federal election ballot. Non-binding because we all know that the wording of a question can affect results, and if a little kid has just been killed there is a surge of emotion and such. But at least we could then, hopefully have the politicians be a little more honest.

They've lived under that type of system all their lives. They are just barely cunning enough to be able to scam our system, but feel more comfortable at home, till they need something. It's a total joke, one that costs you and me a lot of money. -
congratulations. This post earns you a prominent position on my ignore list. In fact, it makes you unique.

I read somewhere that they love to get dual citizenship, live in their homeland, but then if they or a relative get badly ill or injured, they can come here for free health-care. And when they get old, they can come here for the pogy. -
In particular, his "tough on crime" as described in the CBC website is way better than what had previously been reported. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2011/06/03/pol-throne-speech.html

If a Senator is conscientious you are correct. But how many bother? Anecdotal I know, but my wifes uncle was a biggie in the PCP, and he said many just sleep there, many rarely show up and only a few actually work at it.

I was reacting to MikeDavid00 saying Canada was the bottom of the barrel. Do you want to be a laborer in China or India or Mexico or Venezuela and on and on?

I read a follow-up story about 6 months later which claimed a bunch of the people the Canadian government spent my money to "rescue" went back when things settled down. That did get my goat, to use an non-vulgar expression my dad liked. -
I can't comment on Europe, and there is enough cultural differences that Asia isn't relevant. But I visit a US political forum and in fact, the posters there make exactly the same complaints as you did. It is a function of high unemployment due to the recession. It's an economic cycle, that's all. In Canada we still have better labor laws than the US, so I think your post is a bit exaggerated.

Your second amendment is a travesty, IMHO. And yes, our human rights kangaroo courts are a joke. I agree. We all try to make life better for our children. I would love to get rid of guns and get rid of our human rights joke boxes.
