  1. So, you are advocating selective import duties based on origin? And why should the citizens of the second and third world be deprived of employment opportunities?
  2. So you are lucky enough to be in a riding where your MP is appointed to cabinet? Because if not, they are just a puppet of the party leader. And even then they mostly are. I appreciate the principle of your position but IRL it don't matter.
  3. In another related thread, I brought up the fact that since airlines are a very capital intensive industry (an A-320 costs more than $1.95) they tend to carry a large debt load. Most economists know that when, and hopefully it will be soon, the economy starts improving, all the stimulus spending is going to cause bad inflationary pressure, so the BoC will hammer up interest rates. Thus, any forward thinking executive is going to be doing everything in their power to lower debt loads.
  4. FTR, I'm against subsidizing the CBC. Some years ago, maybe, but the technology argument forwared by Segnosaur is very valid.
  5. Anecdotal, admittedly, but I vote against you. For two elections I voted for Rob Anders. Probably the worst MP we have had. But I supported the CPC platform. And whether it is right or wrong, the fact is that individual MP's have very little power. That's just how it is.
  6. The city government asked/demanded that liquor stores in the areas of the screens shut at 4PM on game days. And the paper reports that they did.
  7. Double post for some reason.
  8. Yes, the $5,000.00 was hyperbole, but do you really believe the $550.00? If you do, I have a deed to a bridge I'd like to show you.
  9. And yet that FLQ murderer got a pretty easy walk.
  10. My sister was a long term CBC employee, she retired some years ago. And she is the one who told me a valid criticism was that since they do get public funds, they charge less for advertising, which then inhibits the ability of the private broadcasters to raise funds. On the other hand, working in the far north of Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC, it was fairly common to only have CBC since those areas didn't have sufficient populations to support a private facility. Cost/benefit?
  11. Odds are it will be of inferior quality. But even so, with the advances in technology these days, it gets antiquated even if it still works fine.
  12. As true as your reply may be, it doesn't answer my question. Who will buy the high cost Canadian made computer?
  13. And I answered that above.
  14. And I will pull out my soap-box and yet again say "and 70% of the voters don't support the NDP". So what's your point?
  15. That is about as naive a statement as I have ever heard.
  16. All of which no one (figuratively speaking, or at worst, a generality) cares about. I am pro-monarchy, but really, the GG is really irrelevant to real political factors.
  17. So you mandate that computers must be manufactured in Canada. But you don't close the border to $600.00 computers made in China being imported. Sure, all good Canadians will buy the $5,000.00 Canadian made computers. Really?
  18. I would suggest, about staring with Trudeau, it depends if you want to remain in caucus or not.
  19. Serious question. Then why is there a provincial court system and a separate federal court system in Alberta. And there are provincial laws in Alberta? One easy example is laws related to driving, which include felony grade offenses.
  20. If the voters in that constituency were so lazy that they didn't know what the platform of the party of the person they voted was, they deserve what they get.
  21. This. But we still need more violent vs. non-violent distinction.
  22. The world in general sort of frowns on out and out assassinations. Well, maybe excepting a certain AQ head.
  23. Didn't you, your parents or your grandparents go through the great depression? Didn't they teach you anything. My parents were on a farm. We had tons of food. Way more than we needed. But no one to sell our products to. Therefore no money. So, start a barter system you say. Fine. But damn, coffee is hard to grow in central Saskatchewan. And I don't think sugar beets were invented then. And so many other things. Without international trade our quality of life would suffer terribly, something all the anti free trade types conveniently ignore.
  24. Link please. A US forum I visit often gives way different data.
  25. I'd really start a rebellion if I were you. I have lived in Alberta and now live in BC and there isn't a single bill I get that doesn't give me more than 2 weeks notification from the time I receive it. Although I admit that other than Visa and my health care bill, I now get everything else via e-mail.
