  1. Publicity stunt? This has hurt A&E's reputation. If it was a stunt, I don't think they were in on it. There is no doubt that some of what they show on the TV show is created just for the TV show. The GQ interview touches on that aspect. But again, to suggest they're actually a bunch of Yankee yuppies who just play southern hicks on TV doesn't wash, regardless of how many photos of them one can find without their camo on. There are large numbers of Christians in America who believe homosexual acts are sinful. That might be an uncomfortable truth for some. Maybe it is easier to pretend that the guy who said those things is actually an urbane actor just playing a character. I think that's a stick-your-head-in-the-sand approach. -k
  2. For most of recorded history, mankind's best efforts in the arts and architecture have gone toward paying tribute to whichever gods they worshiped. It should not surprise anyone that religion has inspired great works of art in many cultures. -k
  3. You have obviously confused UFC with WWE, and confused Honey Boo-Boo with Tyrion Lannister. -k
  4. I don't think one should conclude that the whole duck hunting thing is an act because they don't wear their camouflage on vacation. Criminy, Michael. If somebody saw you at the beach without your pocket-protector, would people be justified in concluding you're not a real web tech guy? -k
  5. What are you blathering about now? Who's trying to make people believe in anything? You had to bring this act to this thread because you got called out in the other thread and have to pretend you didn't see it... it's like Whack-A-Mole. -k
  6. RIP, Anderson Silva's leg. :-O

One of the grossest sports injuries I've ever seen, and a tragic end to a great career.

Tragic. Probably career-ending.But credit to Weidman, he checked that kick like a pro. Supersonic kicks + knee check = break.

  7. One thing I definitely will not miss about the Christmas season is some of the crappy songs that they play on the PA in stores and malls. I'm talking specifically about some of the new annoying pop-music style Christmas songs. "Last Christmas I gave you my heart..." BARF Also, that fricken kid wishing for his two front teeth. But the worst has to be diva-style performances of Christmas classics. The ones who never actually sing the melody because they turn every phrase into a vocal warm-up exercise. "Let us bring him silver-- and GOOO WO WO LOLOLOLO HO HO WO WOWOWO OHHHH WO WO WOOAAHHHH" I guess to some people that's the sound of "serious vocal chops", but to me it's the sound of a barnyard animal giving birth. And she's not even done yet. She's still wailing away. "Let us bring him siiilllililililiverrrrrrr... and goooolololololllhoooowoooowoooowooooooooooooo." I hope that now that there's Obamacare this poor woman can afford to have her kidney stones properly taken care of and won't be assaulting our ears at this time next year. -k
  8. If Google's tracking is so damned smart, why is Youtube now giving me French ads when I open videos? Get it together, Google. -k
  9. Reptilians? Alex Jones? Globalists, Freemasons, the New World Order? I'm not sure this stuff is accepted Catholic doctrine... -k
  10. Well that didn't take too long. A&E has announced that Phil's "suspension" has been lifted. I'm sure that there will be lots of spin, but this was always a business decision. They suspended him because they were afraid a backlash against his comments would cost them money. They reinstated him because they realized that suspending him was going to cost them even more money. -k
  11. Nothing in Agenda 21 supersedes national sovereignty. That's fear-mongering being promoted by tin-foil hat types. -k
  12. If our policy-makers were as rational as Bonam, we would be better off. -k

  14. If anybody is interested in reading the actual interview in which the controversial comments were made, it is here. One little snippet that seems to foreshadow the controversy that followed: -k
  15. haha, sure. Show us one post where that happened. -k
  16. It's odd that he has been allowed to commit a felony without any consequences, aside from writing a "oops sorry" letter to Diane Feinstein. -k
  17. The claim that the "metadata" that the NSA collects is not personally identifying has been studied by academics, and found to be false. A researcher at Stanford found that by using nothing more than the metadata and searches of publicly-available information from just 3 sources-- Facebook, Yelp, and Google Places-- he was able to get positive IDs for more than 25% of the users in his 5000-user metadata sample set. The conclusion is that if a guy could come up with that many correct matches from publicly accessible sources, it is highly likely that an agency with the resources the NSA has could go much further. -k
  18. I was in Ottawa during the 1998 ice storm. It sucked. Best wishes to those who are affected by this. -k
  19. I'm sorry you didn't find it as amusing as I did. It was a comedy piece, not an educational video. You're a pyromaniac in a field of straw-men, to coin a phrase. -k
  20. The magic of the season came to the US Senate this week, via Twitter. It all started with Rand Paul participating in a Festivus tradition called "The Airing of Grievances" on Twitter. One of his grievances: that Cory Booker doesn't retweet him often enough. Booker did not take kindly to this, and challenged Paul to another Festivus tradition: "the Feats of Strength". Paul challenged Booker to join him in reforming Mandatory Minimum Sentencing instead. Booker agreed, provided that marijuana law reforms are on the table too. Rand Paul agreed, since he has written a bill on marijuana law reform. -k
  21. Happy Kwanzaa, Shady! -k
  22. I don't see any pity party at all, aside from the guy crying that he's tired of hearing about non-Christian Christmas. -k
  23. Right now the employers are holding all the cards, given the state of the labor market. They can ask for more and give less in return, because they know that "take this job and shove it" isn't really a viable option when jobs are so hard to come by. There used to be an adage about a "carrot and stick" relationship, where you chase the donkey forward by whacking it with a stick, but also lead it forward by tempting it with a carrot. Nowadays, there's not much in the way of carrots being offered. It's all stick. However, I think that this creates an environment where employees will do the minimum required to keep their jobs, and always be on the lookout for opportunities to move on. It's funny to hear employers gripe about a lack of loyalty and team spirit when all parties involved know that the lack of other options is the main reason the employee comes to work each day. -k
  24. I don't see anybody crying except you. -k
  25. U mad bro? Was somebody's Festivus pole blocking your view of the nativity scene? Hey, maybe you could post some of that fake War On Christmas BS. Maybe that will make you feel better. -k
