  1. Rod has been very open about his position on abortion since the start, and he keeps increasing his vote count.
  2. They chose the status quo. Only 36% of all eligible voters voted against the government.
  3. I always thought so too, until I saw this: That looks like real hair slicked back to me.
  4. How long have you been saying these kinds of things? Majority wasn't going to happen this election either, right? How does that work? You're not wrong, you're just not right yet?
  5. Actually, I relieved that we will finally have a chance at objectivity after years of left-wing lunacy.
  6. I can only hope so. That would be a perfect compliment to the crime bills we'll finally be able to pass.
  7. Oliver was just conveying original the long term Harper-Flanagan electoral plan. The primary goal was to eradicate the Liberal Party, get themselves elected was secondary. Getting a majority was a distant third. Having an extended minority was actually helping the first goal, because it didn't give the Liberals time to properly recover and rebuild. Flanagan is not even with the Conservatives anymore, so I don't know if the plan even applies anymore, but it sure looks like it's going in at least that general direction.
  8. Pegasus, I have a few thoughts based on my experience volunteering with a fledgeling party that ended up getting getting more support than even they thought they would get... Have you attended EDA meetings? Candidates are usually chosen out of the EDAs, not just by dropping off an application. If they had a pile of 'not qualified' candidates, and none that they thought was qualified, they likely picked one of the 'not qualifieds' that they at least knew from the meetings--possibly even from how much they volunteered in the area. Also, some ridings probably held out until the last minute hoping that someone qualified would show up, and when no one did, they might have just randomly grabbed someone--not to be a real candidate, but just to be a name on the list. In the case of Ruth Ellen Brosseau, I'm sure her picture was her only qualification. I highly doubt she was deliberately chosen.
  9. Yup. between that, the 54 billion raided from EI, and the 25 billion cut from healthcare, anyone who says Martin was a good finance minister is as big an idiot as he was.
  10. That's some quality discourse there. I'll be sure to remind you of this rant when you get bumped right back to fourth place next election.
  11. Funny. I've always refused to fill it out before, and nothing has ever happened. Apparently I have more rights than you think.
  12. You said things like that during the election too, and the base got bigger. Keep bleating, it's very helpful.
  13. 1) The information they need, they already have, many times over. I'm simply not going to participate in this exercise in government redundancy. If their records are inefficient, fix THAT. 2) The information they don't already have is none of their business. 3) I really don't care about researchers and special interest groups that use the data. Let them gather their own data on their own dime. My information is mine, not theirs. It absolutely is my right to share it or not share it how I see fit. I don't need a reason, if I say no, too bad for them.
  14. Three times the seats, and a complete loss of influence over the government... that helped you how? I hope he tries. It should be entertaining to watch.
  15. Thanks to the Conservatives, I pay a lot less taxes. Jury duty? When I got called in, I told them I couldn't make it. They said, "OK".
  16. Not to mention several of the new Quebec NDP MPs have been saying that the NDP will deliver sovereignty for Quebec. Jack has his hands full. Conservatives love having Pat Martin around to remind the mainstream voters that the NDP is just a collection of fringe lunatics. He's a useful idiot. Bev Oda increased her voter support after he tore into her. Let's hope he goes after all of the CPC MPs, it's quite helpful.
  17. Harper's been listening to that rhetoric for five straight elections now, and his support keeps increasing.
  18. Dykstra was simply giving his own opinion, the party is not planning to scrap the census altogether. I wish they were, but they are not.
  19. Ignatieff is the one who said he'd go back to Harvard if he didn't win. The Conservatives were simply quoting him.
  20. Yes they are. It's part of the Federal Accountability Act, enacted by the Conservatives in 2006. They cut themselves off from that advantage their opponents have perceived them to have. Likewise with the removal of per-vote subsidies, they're the ones with the most to lose from their own legislation.
  21. If the census is mandatory, how is that me giving "permission"? If the information must be disclosed by law, but they already have the information on file, they don't need me or the added layers of bureaucracy to achieve the same result.
  22. CBC is much worse than Fox.
  23. Notice that Harry hasn't posted again since the sunday night before the election!
  24. So if people don't fill out their census, the government won't know where to spend money? That sounds like as good a reason as any not to fill it out.
  25. No kidding. Layton has his work cut out for him with that caucus. It's going to be like herding cats.
