Harper turns down one-on-one debate with Ignatieff
Shwa replied to Shwa's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Good points. But it still makes Mr. Harper look like a fraidy cat with a lot to lose. Harper's good ol' boy versus Ignatieff's Hah-vaud. The U of T drop out versus the U of T Professor. Hockey versus... I dunno, cricket? I mean Igantieff did spend some time at Cambridge and Oxford. But it could be fun! -

Why ask a Canadian that question? It might be more suitably put to those thousands of black liberals that voted for him in, say, Illinois. -
Harper turns down one-on-one debate with Ignatieff

For disappointed Senator and Leaf fans, this could have been the game of the year. But at this point, no-go says Mr. Harper. Also, I like the prominent use of the word 'coalition' by Mr. Harper. Nice touch! Apparently that concept is still game for the Cons. Harper turns down one-on-one debate with Ignatieff I wonder if Mr. Harper is afraid of taking Mr. Ignatieff on one-on-one. Sure looks like it. I bet this isn't over yet. -

He's a black liberal. The Sith Empire is dominated by Republicans, he being is held hostage. Likely in the lair of Jabba The Hut aka Bill O'Reilly. -

Well, that would be more of an appropriate question regarding American voters where such franchise is no fantasy at all. In fact, I think the OP sort of leans in this direction. Is this an official question from the Americana spokesperson? Gawd, I would hate to think that someone actually cares. But watch the CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN networks for updates since they are following the whole event very closely. -

Yeah, an apt analogy on the face of it. But most Fantasy Voters in Canada don't really care much about that anymore and, if they do, they might tend to see a phenomenon of Liberal Interventism. Actually the lastest juicy tidbit about Kate is her pedigree. A cousin to George Washington and General Patton no less! As noted in several major network news sites, including this CBS one: But of course, I am sure there aren't any Americans that reflect on this Royal Wedding or whether or not the Queen will bypass Prince Charles and go to Prince William as the next King. The last thing anyone wants is that they should be beholden to the Mother Country in any way at all, seeing there was that Revolution and all. -

Pretty much what I was aiming for. I mean, I still use a wooden ruler, but it is marked in centimetres & millimetres even though I also have a wooden ruler marked in inches. As a measure, the centimetre ruler is more up-to-date with the times. -

Outwardly, this looks promising, however it fails to meet the criteria you specified: Plenty of people here wanted Obama to win or would have voted for him if they had the choice. But I am not sure if our exemplar negelected his or her own domestic vote whilst pining for the franchise in the USA. And, also: It isn't a matter of 'like' for the reference, it was one of relevance. I mean, at the time, I was a little puzzled too by what turned out to be a temporary phenomenon. Folks have moved on since the liberal black man was safely ensconced in the halls of power of our most beloved neighbour. Now it is more about what sort of gown Kate will wear. And, as some tabloids are wont to ask, should it be completely white. -
And don't forget Indians, AdScam and immigration all linked through the actions of past liberals and socialists.

Canadians who wanted to vote for Obama? That is so two years ago. Don't you read Hello magazine B-C? The biggest foreign political landscape investment is the wedding of Prince Willima and Kate Middleton. Try and keep up, eh? -

Non-black students may boycott Africentric school, students warn
Shwa replied to Shwa's topic in Local Politics in Canada
More consultation needed on Africentric school, director says Interesting and honourable reversal. Chris Spence's face has been on TV often enough over the past few days. The best part of this is that the community itself made the decision - an inclusive community that shows that participation in the process works and that grassroots can change bureaucratic directions. Hopefully this isn't some delaying tactic by the Board, but a genuine effort to review the concept entirely. But don't hold your breath on that... -
It isn't my argument, it is yours; one that you keep making repeatedly: It has less to do with two wrongs making a right than you blatantly - and openly - contradicting yourself by acknowledging the political partisan aspect of Don Cherry making a speech at the Mayoral Swearing In Ceremony all the while denying others to do the same on City dime. Methinks you are missing the point that the Mayoral Swearing In Ceremony - a long standing traditional ceremony, paid for by the City of Toronto - is as cultural event you will get. Seriously, not a "cultural event?" Are you even from Canada? And, by the way, the QUIAA "script" was not drafted by Pride Toronto. <<drivel snipped>> No, it's likely a stroke, so you have an excuse for being completely out of touch. But you should have the tingling checked out anyways.

Sure, but even back in the day (and I mean baaaaaaaa-ck in the day) pamphlets were the new media and it didn't take long for them to regulated enough to suit the purpose of the ruling elites despite the self-evident truths of those times. So I kind of wonder how long it will take before this new media is usurped and directed. Other than the rich corporations behind them I mean. And the damned ads...

Pffft. As IF that will ever happen. I mean, have you seen all the propaganda out there lately?? You can't turn around without stepping in another pile of the stuff. Wear conscience-galoshes. But alas, this has been going on for so long - forever apparently - why complain? You should instead be grateful to be a participant. A lot of work has gone into that stuff, somebody worked long hours. Now if you are a part of the group that ultimately benefits, good for you, but if not, you should be happy for them. I mean, someone has to win. BTW, the new slogan today is "May the truth win out." This actually means, "May you not look too closely and if you do, ignore what you see - and all will be as right as rain."

Guilty: Harper Government Found in Contempt of Parliament

Yep, and at this point the discussion must turn categorical and hopefully be reflected in the laws.

Guilty: Harper Government Found in Contempt of Parliament
Shwa replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"Canadians seem largely apathetic about the erosion of their democracy." ???? Pfff, what does some Ozzy know? Last election Canada had 58.8% voter turnout representing about 42% of the total population. See? Some people are still interested. But if they offered free coffee and donuts at the polling stations, turnout would be much higher. Elections Canada is aware of this. They are the ones suppressing democracy in Canada by their obstinate refusal to provide the free coffee and donuts. (and it isn't really "free" anyways. All we need to do is scale back some of those corporate tax cuts to pay for everything.) We all want reform at Elections Canada! It's their fault! -

And the beat goes on... Plan for Africentric high school put on hold amid packed and angry protest Some of the video of this get together were on the news last night and there were quite a few impassioned pleas against the idea. I like this nugget: Huh. Offer Africentric courses? Damned teenaged radicals with their radical ideas! -
And you having a platform to express this view - even repeatedly - is a good thing! Gotta look on the bright side sometimes, even with Mr. Oleg.

Humans in N. America Earlier Than Thought
Shwa replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Health, Science and Technology
If you want to wimp out because you lack the chops that is fine by me. But by doing so you admit that competing theories exist in science. As so amply proven. If you wish to counter claim, bring it on. I have cited academic papers to make my point. Now make yours using equally valid sources. I mean, I have full access to JSTOR, will that be good enough for you? -

And of course you're right. But simply dismissing an argument because 'wikepedia' is cited or making a counter claim without citing evidence while requiring it from others opens up the rules a bit dunnit? As IF - just because - someone says it is so, doesn't really count as any sort of authority now does it? So replying with an equal absurdity is fair game. -
Oh God no. Those original punks are rabidly revered by some of today's youth. And at earlier ages too. Until they see some 60 year old geezer still stuck with safety pins, in smelly leather with a big greasy mohawk. Those were the days...

What the hell is your agenda anyways? I mean the word sounds seductively powerful, a tie into secret world of backroom power brokers. Is your agenda busty women?? But really, it is so overused nowadays and applying it to a single poster on the Internet is, well, no offence BM, but not very impressive. I think it would sound cooler and more impressive if 'novel' or 'book' were used instead. Like this: "Either way...your focus on the Iraq example is motivated by your book sales." "Either way...your focus on the Iraq example is motivated by that Iraq War novel you have written." Or how about something a little less specific to paper? "Either way...your focus on the Iraq example is motivated by your recent movie." (or "compelling indie documentary" which is a bagful of cred right there) I think you need a PR overhaul if all you got is an agenda. But I do like 'radicalism-for-its-own-sake' though. Sounds kinda like mid-70's punk deconstruction and not Armani suit-like agenda bearing at all.
