  1. Oh, and that communist old rag, the Toronto Star, is endorsing the NDP - here's the story: Toronto Star endorses the NDP
  2. Bread and Circuses son, get with the program.
  3. The "voice" of the First Nations people is supposed to be the Assembly of First Nations, but that mechanism really doesn't work well since it is an extension of the colonial apparatus imposed on First Nations governance in the first place. Band Councils and Chiefs, etc. A few senate seats is an intriguing idea though and would allow for direct participation in the democracy.
  4. "There's a small few that are doing well, rather." Cite your source. Can't? Didn't think so...
  5. Trouble is, you are generalizing and making assumptions of all First Nations based upon your limited view of a few reserves. For example, did you know that roughly half of Aboriginal people live off-reserve? Of did you think that all of them were on reserves. It ain't the sand you need to worry about...
  6. Hébert: A Liberal campaign of self-destruction Thanks Chantale, I'll read the article later. What is intriguing about this story is the accompanying photo of Mr. Ignatieff showing off a big, gross sweaty pit stain which will not go over well with a certain segment of society - prisses, grammas, metros, etc. Now, will Mr. Ignatieff get deodorant endorsement deals once the LPC tosses him as party leader in about 8 months? Who knows. But c'mon man, wear an undershirt at least. Sheesh. Signs of Nixon in 1960? What has got Mr. Igantieff so sweaty? Combative Ignatieff says Tories can 'go to hell' Gimme a break. Mr. Igantieff claims he is "not going to complain about it" all the while complaining about it. This is why the best thing that could happen to the LPC is to get third place in this election.
  7. An important issue with little traction. If I understand things correctly, "new media" is being held up at the government level as it goes under accessibility revisions...
  8. Sun News drawing as few as 4,000 viewers Bummer. I hope they get more viewers looking for more "balance." On the other hand, perhaps the mere fact this is reported by that communist rag The Toronto Star is not really reflecting the truth? Perhaps SunTV has a million secret viewers which cannot be detected. Like the 'silent majority' of yore. In other news, us Rogers subscribers are being forced to pay for this just like the CBC, APTN and the Comedy Network.
  9. Interesting "exclusive" story from the Star. Which is all to say, hey, let's see how this works in modern times and "oops" maybe a law designed to protect us from rampaging Nazis, isn't appropriate in these modern times. Exclusive: Province to scrap secret G20 law Sorry for the fat lip, bruises and torn hemp shirt son, just following the law...
  10. Wrong. Aboriginal peoples in Canada’s urban area – Narrowing the education gap Wrong. Study: Aboriginal labour market update "White society" my ass. YOU have just now branded the FN as unfit for work and are assigning your opinion as a truth about "white society." See above. Good God. MOST FN are doing just fine. Here, let's apply your opinion the other way around and see if it rings true a la crazy mikedavid00: Yep. When you generalize that broadly, almost anything you say is true innit?
  11. You are a kind and caring person, but you are not unique. There are plenty of people like you, doing this sort of good work every single day in all places where people live. If there is one thing in common, in all these sorts of folks I have personally met, it was be consistent. That is all you can do. Consistency - in the message you are giving out - proves to anyone that could care to take the time to take a good look - is that anyone is capable of change. Even dumb teenagers who have had it rough. I have seen it happen, this change, but they have to do the work. So long as you are consistent with the way you live, he will always have a chance to see that it is possible for him to live that way also. It isn't about money, it is about character.
  12. It has nothing to do with "patronage" and I am not sure how you arrived at this being about patronage at all. If you want to construct "social policy" then think in the broadest terms that includes publicly funded events, attended by the public, who publicly express views that might be contrary to the current funder's views. So what? Taxpayers fund views contrary to your own all the time and always have except under the circumstances of tyranny. All you are saying is that you would rather restrict freedoms in the name of some sort of fiscal rationalizations. Nice try, that won't fly. Riiiiiiigght. Sure.
  13. Which plays nicely into the idea of a Royal Commission with a 3-5 year mandate to go find out. As much as others believe that young Quebecoise are soft on nationalism, I believe a lot of young Canadians are not as uptight about associative deals with Quebec.
  14. That is a tough question cybercoma. Right off the bat, jobs/economy come to mind, but this is indeed about whether we want a majority CPC government per battletoads. Pretty much everything else will fall somewhere in the middle with any party. If we had a real fiscal conservative option, I would be inclinded to look a little more closely. But this CPC government and the LPC non-option at this point has me - has our entire family - looking at the NDP. That is, if you are going to spend, spending it on families is the message that rings the loudest and that includes healthcare, education, etc.
  15. I wish we still had the Progressive Conservative Party for me to support. Instead we only have the polluted Conservative Party. I'll vote NDP.
  16. Yes, doesn't it now? Very interesting indeed. But when you are trying to consolidate control of speech, such actions are necessary. Thus, form a government funded group to put out the 'correct' message all the while defunding groups who put out the 'wrong' message.
  17. What do you know, it works both ways. Cool.
  18. With the thread title, I was hoping for another thread on ethnic employment issues, finally believing the problems had been solved. Bitterly disappointed...
  19. Grant who? Saskatchewhat? Do they even have a football team there?
  20. People, people, there is enough voting to go around for everyone! Here is a compromise: Over 30 - federal, provincial and municipal voting privledges. 25-30 years - provincial and municipal. Too young to understand federal politics or appreciate Quebec. under 25 - municipal only since these youngsters only connect voting with garbage pickup issues. under 18 - get one vote per person to choose which TV channel to watch. Older person's votes count as two...
  21. Downtown Toronto and Markham are no-war zones.
  22. Yes because a handful of fighters is going to make difference against a billion thirsty Chinese. You might as well learn how to use chopsticks right now. The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades!
  23. Oh I get it, you are speculating and generalizing, but not actually providing anything like a coherent comparative analysis or anything. For a second there I thought you were serious.
  24. Those that have a clue do, especially when it comes to Bob Rae and the job he did in the largest and richest province in Canada.
