Semperfi Dani: Oh, they're not too bad. Indeed, many of the lefties on this board are quite amusing.

It's Mark Steyn! The National Post has never been the same since he - and Conrad Black - left. The quality of his articles is remarkable, considering how much he writes. He is a witty intellectual liberal-slayer. He's great!

He's a troll, fleabag. It's what he does. He's not here to debate. He's not here to discuss issues in an intelligent manner. He lives to flame. Which is why you need to make the "ignore" button your friend. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Typical insults from you. It's your MO. -

Miers bows out
Montgomery Burns replied to Black Dog's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
This is great news for conservatives. The Miers nomination, like BD said, smacked of cronyism. It would have been okay if she was a noted great conservative judge, but she was basically a "nobody" who happened to be Bush's personal lawyer. The conservative base was very upset as part of the reason they voted for Bush, was because everyone knew there was going to be 2 or 3 vacancies in the Supreme Court--and the Republicans had a chance to swing the court their way and stop the out-of-control left. That's part of the reason why Bush's approval ratings have been low; he pissed off his base--the people that voted him in! Notice how he polled at 44% today, versus the high 30s that he had been getting in the past month. What did Bush expect? He spends like a Democrat, gives $223 million for a bridge in Alaska that links up 50 people; gives millions to the art community (who are mostly hardcore leftwingers who hate his guts and create "art" with feces smeared over the Virgin Mary); keeps Norm Mineta as the head of the Travel Security (or whatever it is) Dept; spending billions buying mobile homes for the Katrina victims who were previously renters--plus giving them a $5000 education voucher; gave millions (or billions?) to a pork-barrel filled Highway Traffic Bill (I saw some of the items in that bill--wasteful pork that should be the responsibility of the state, not the feds). It smacks of buying votes, i.e., politically for the Senators and State Representatives; doesn't address the porous Mexican border, dubbed the Minute Men "vigilantes"; serves the manical Jihadists Duck a la Orange at Gitmo, and then nominates a capable center-right nobody who just happens to be his own lawyer - for the Supreme Court? Get real. Bush blundered terribly with Miers. However, everyone is entitled to a mistake--because the rumors are... ... that he is going to nominate Janice Rogers-Brown or Samuel "Scalito" Alito. That would energize the Republican base. I predict that Bush will pick one of those two, the Dems will filibuster, and the Repubs will use their "nuclear option" to get their pick through. Batten up the hatches. I sense that the Republicans want to fight back. The Bush administration should get their message out more. They have to fight back against the liberal media's propaganda. The fur is going to fly. -

2,000 deaths too many
Montgomery Burns replied to theloniusfleabag's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
How much do the wor mongers in the US care for the people of Sudan? Tibet? Myanmar? North Korea? All of these people are suffering under the boot of a vicious dictators yet the US does nothing for them. Why are the Iraqs the annointed people worthy of sheading so much US blood and money? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Typical leftie rebuttal; change the subject. -
2,000 deaths too many
Montgomery Burns replied to theloniusfleabag's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
To the far left, being able to say “I told you so,” being able to point to the futility of American military might, being able to point their fingers at the “evil ones” and their leader--the Republicans, the pro-war crowd, the military and especially President Bush--means more to the far left than does the ultimate well-being of their fellow human beings and the eventual defeat of those who would see us dead or converted to Islam at gunpoint. The far left doesn't give a damn about the consequences for the people of Iraq any more than their ideological parents cared about the fate of the Vietnamese, nor do they care about the honor and free will of the US men and women who are going to bat for the Iraqis. Some are even hosting a vigil to celebrate the death of the 2000th GI in Iraq. Power is the far left's goal and they feel it must be reached no matter the cost. -

'Relapsed Catholic' and 'small, dead animals'??? I don't think people like this should decide what beer to serve at a party, let alone rulers of a nation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Er, Kate McMillan (SmallDeadAnimals) has been endorsed by Mark Steyn. -

That would be great, if they took no for an answer. But no matter how many times he says no, they keep calling back, questioning his patriotism, his committment to democracy, etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh please. No one is falling for your overly dramatic posts. It doesn't even make sense. I've been watching you for a while and your contempt for the Iraqis is plain for all to see. Why? -

Montgomery Burns replied to theloniusfleabag's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I knew the far left would be on the "2000 dead" like a bunch of grave-robbing ghouls. They have no shame when it comes to robbing the fallen US soldiers of their honor. They are just a number to be exploited for leftwing political purposes. These people who exploit the freedom-fighting dead are beneath contempt. You should be ashamed of yourself for your utter contempt (like Melanie etal) for the long-suffering Iraqi people. Your icon is in a cage in a courtroom being judged by his peers and will, for all intents and purposes, be put to death. He's not coming back. -

Canada: Blame America
Montgomery Burns replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Err: I was talking about my province voting the NDP into power(which used every dirty unethical trick to win). It's only gang on gang! If only we banned all the handguns.... Oh wait. They did that in the UK and their robbery rate went up 92% in 4 yrs. Kumbaya, My Lord....Kumbaya. Let's all hold hands together in solidarity and sing. The Walmart Reference™: Evil Corporation®. -
Canadian Press: Security analyst says gangs not guns, to blame for Canada's murder problem: I agree. It's embarrassing that Canada seems to constantly blame its crime woes on the USA. There's gangs freely strutting around in my city--with usually not a cop in sight. Thank you NDP for lying when you said that you were going to hire 200 more cops for the province. Typical pantywaist appeasers when it comes to enforcing society's laws.

Who should rule the world?
Montgomery Burns replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
I find all of the choices on both lists quite distasteful (although Koizumi would be an interesting choice). At the end of the day, it does not make a difference who the world 'leader' is because the ability of a leader to lead depends entirely on the underlying political system. Given the fact that most countries in the world today have disfunctional political systems, I don't see how we could invent a world wide system that would be anything other than useless. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Japan's Koizumi is an interesting pick. -
Who should rule the world?
Montgomery Burns replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
I'm not sure if Branson is a leftwinger. There were a few people that showed up on both the rightwing and leftwing polls. -
On Sept 30, the BBC released the results of an online poll they had created. The results of their "Who should lead a Fantasy World Govt" poll from their leftwing readers: 1 - Nelson Mandela 2 - Bill Clinton 3 - Dalai Lama 4 - Noam Chomsky 5 - Alan Greenspan 6 - Bill Gates 7 - Steve Jobs 8 - Archbishop Desmond Tutu 9 - Richard Branson 10 - George Soros 11 - Kofi Annan The ghastly Bill Clinton at #2, certified America-hater Noam Chomsky at #4, George Soros at #10, and perhaps most frightening--the thoroughly corrupt anti-American Kofi Annan at #11. Other placements in the BBC poll: 15 - Michael Moore 33 - Hugo Chavez 36 - Fidel Castro 43 - George W Bush 70 - Osama bin Laden Rightwingnews.com replied with a poll of their own from 38 right-of-centre weblogs. There was one caveat. Since many conservative bloggers vehemently object to the idea of one world govt, all bloggers were told they were choosing a team to run every country in the world except their own home country. Here are the results of RWN's poll: 15) Paul Wolfowitz: Former US Deputy Secretary of Defense. World Bank President 15) Arnold Schwarzenegger: Governor of California 15) Rush Limbaugh: Talk radio host 15) Junichiro Koizumi: Prime Minister of Japan 15) Christopher Hitchens: Pundit 15) Bill Gates: Founder of Microsoft 15) Tommy Franks: Former US General 15) Dick Cheney: US Vice President 15) George W. Bush: US President 15) Tony Blair: British Prime Minister 12) Donald Rumsfeld: US Secretary of Defense 12) Václav Havel: Former President of Czechoslovakia 12) Pope Benedict XVI: Pope 10) Mark Steyn: Pundit 10) Victor Davis Hanson: Pundit 7) Thomas Sowell: Pundit 7) Antonin Scalia: US Supreme Court Justice 7) Ann Coulter: Pundit 4) Natan Sharansky: Soviet dissident, former Israeli cabinet member 4) Rudy Giuliani: Former Mayor of New York City 4) Milton Friedman: Economist 2) Margaret Thatcher: Former British Prime Minister 2) John Howard: Australian Prime Minister 1) Condoleeza Rice: US Secretary of State Condi would be great, but I don't even think she will win the Republican nomination. The liberal MSM will savage her for being an unmarried 50 yr old woman. Plus, she has no experience in running for anything. Interesting to see Australia's John Howard and The Iron Lady--Margaret Thatcher--tied for 2nd. Ann Coulter in a 3-way tie for 7th? That oughta drive the lefties wild with rage. I admit that she is over-the-top sometimes (although I think it is an act), but most of the time she is dead on. And Canada's Mark Steyn is tied for 10th with the legendary Victor Davis Hanson. Congrats Mr Steyn! We miss ya; the National Post has never been the same since you left! I have a quote from Thomas Sowell in my signature. He is in a 3-way tie for #7 in the rightwing poll. He is a black conservative (an Uncle Tom to the far left) and IMHO, is up there as a pundit with Mark Steyn and VDH. Anyways, I thought this was interesting. Who would you pick to lead a fantasy world govt?

Psy-ops...What is 'too much'?
Montgomery Burns replied to theloniusfleabag's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Most of the portrayal of Saddam 'murdering his own people' comes from the Kurds trying to secede. Using this as 'proof he is a murderous tyrant', or suggesting that mass murder in Iraq was commonplace, is like saying the Civil War demonstrates that America was also founded on the killing of their own people. Yes, the US military managed to keep it secret for a while....why the 'frenzy'? Two reasons, firstly, 'If it bleeds, it leads'. Controversy sells, and selling 'sensationalism' is what American entertainment is all about. Secondly, the US keeps on pretending to be 'the good guys', and it is hard to imagine John Wayne or The Lone Ranger sodomizing or murdering a prisoner. The 'MSM' is so far right it is disgusting. I can't pick up a newspaper without reading op-eds with the words 'those idiot lefties', etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1) Words can't convey the disappointment I felt when I read your causal dismissal of Saddam murdering 1.5 million of his own Iraqi people. 2) Why are you upset that the military didn't run to the MSM media in January 2004 and show them those Abu Ghraib pics? Because it wouldn't serve your propaganda purposes? The US military broke the Abu Ghriab "abuse" long before the MSM did. 3) You are completely off the mark when you claim that the MSM is biased to the right. Study after study has proven beyond a doubt that the MSM is biased to the left. Even the leftwing media "watchdogs" (MediaMatters, FAIR, etc) spend 90% of their time attacking one news source--the Fox News Channel. Canada's state-run, taxpayer-funded Soviet-style CBC is a far leftwing news source. I was disgusted at the Passionate Eye episode that aired on CBC Newsworld last Saturday. Nothing but pure American and especially, Bush-bashing. It is an outrage that Canadian righties are forced to pay for this Pravda-type reporting. -
From the Portland (Maine) Press: Howard Dean: "I'm tired of the ayatollahs of the right wing" Republican-hating Doctor Howard "YEEARRGGHH!" Dean, the chairman of the DNC, icon to the angry anti-liberation crowd, the man with an undiagnosed terminal case of foot-in-the-mouth disease, Howard Dean - the God-send to the Republicans - was in Maine yesterday: Howard appears to have a very short memory when it comes to corrupt administrations. *cough* Clinton administration *cough* Give me a break. How could anyone be so out of touch with reality? Keep it up, Howard. You help turn more moderates into Republicans every day. Howard Dean is such a hatemonger, his infamous "I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for" probably being his lowest, but I have to admit that he is hilariously entertaining at times. Here's my Top 5 Favorite Dean Quotes on Race. Enjoy. 5) "I still want to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks." 4) "I believe that the flag of the Confederate States of America is a painful symbol and reminder of racial injustice and slavery which (Abraham) Lincoln denounced from here over 150 years ago." 3) "We're going to tell all those white boys who run the Republican Party to stay out of our bedrooms." (Howard Dean apparently forgets what color he is ). 2) "You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here." 1) "Dealing with race is about educating white folks..."

Exploiting The Dead
Montgomery Burns replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Maybe you should give a good argument against it, then, rather than just dismissing it. Fleabag is right, of course, the Bush girls would be walking targets, and their "noble sacrifice" would be all but assured. I don't wish them harm, despite what you might think from my posts, but I also don't see their lives as more valuable than my nephew, or any of the other barely adults who are sent over there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "Technically" their lives aren't more important than the average American BUT regardless of "that" there is no way they could be allowed to fight in Iraq because, whether you like it or not, they would be the target... Can you imagine kidnappers capturing them and saying..."troops out or your daughters lives???" Bush would never allow for his family to be put in such a position and I don't blame him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly. Jenna and Barbara would have big exes on their back. Just shudder at the thought of one or both of the girls getting beheaded. The terrorist deathcult would do it. Not only would it be terribly demoralizing to the American public, which would make the far left elated, and likley Bush would retaliate with a thunderous military action. He might even go too far. When I see people advocatating for the Bush twin daughters to go fight in Iraq--knowing that they would both have big exes on their backs--I sometimes think that these people want the Bush twins killed by the terrorists.
