So much for "The Quagmire"
Montgomery Burns replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
cgarrett: Can you leave again for a little while? I have no problems with debate, but seriously... "...it was [sic] strickly about oil." And the foolish Bush administration gave the owners all rights to that oil. And no Republicans "on the ground taking bullets"? 80% of the military is Republican! I think we can add Cgarrett to the ilk of Michael Moore and George Galloway. We know whose side Cgarrett is on. Just another example of the left's hatred for freedom... -
God speaks to George Bush?

Good sources you have for those supposed quotes from Bush... ...professional Palestinian liar Nabil Shaath and Holocaust-denying Palestinian “president” Abu Mazen. Breitbart.com from AFP: White House denies Bush claimed divine inspiration This "Bush said God told him to do it" story is as phony as John Kerry. -
Canada's state-run, taxpayer-funded CBC: CSIS head says Canadians fighting in Iraq If the US shoots and paralyzes one of these Canadian terror supporters, will the Canadian taxpayer, again, be forced to pay for this terrorist's medical bills and therapy for the rest of his life? Let Osama pay his bills.

Washington Post: Air America ratings, from bad to nonexistent Haha ...and Washington is at least 80% Democrat. Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh took time out from stomping the crap out of Air America and wrote an opinion piece for the WSJ: Rush Limbaugh oped in the Wall Street Journal I've never heard his radio show, but it is easy to see why his ratings are so high. His analysis above is spot on.

Uh, you make it sound as if this mess was over. Well it's still a quagmire until the U.S. and other forces exit. And according to U.S. sources, that could be quite a while. So much for Bush's 2002 election promise of a clear and concise exit strategy should they ever go to war. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Elections held less than 2 years after Saddam was overthrown; a constitution passed--written by Iraqis themselves--that guarantees Iraqis freedom of religion, speech and freedom of the press. Some quagmire. But to the left, freedom is considered a quagmire. Thank goodness, people like you aren't in charge of helping Iraq. You'd go on nat'l TV and announce the exact date that the US troops are leaving, giving the terrorists a clear strategy. Thankfully Bush has never given a date as to when the troops are leaving--which people like you and John Kerry demand. -

G.I.'s and Syrians in Tense Clashes on Iraqi Border <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You mean like the secret mission that John Kerry was on in Cambodia on Christmas Eve 1968, under orders from President Nixon? Maybe the US should leave Iraq like they left Vietnam. Then another 2 million innocents could be slaughtered. Sure that wouldn't be great, but at least the left could have a collective orgasm hearing about another 2 million innocents massacred. -

http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...99037&t=TS_Home <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's still US troops in Germany and Japan - two "quagmires" that had democracy forced on them. And when will the US bring the troops home from Bosnia? Clinton - who bombed Bosnia without approval from Congress - said they would be home in 1996. -

From: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9659209 "The returns have raised questions over the possibility of irregularities in the balloting." Yeah, a good old American democracy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's not very honest when you post half of a sentence and omit the second half of the sentence where the Associated Press gives their OPINION about "the possiblilty of irregularities" because there were more "yes" votes than the AP thought there should be. Only the liberal media--and the AP is liberal--would be befuddled that so many would vote yes to a constitution that guarantees freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of religion. The totalitarian-supporting liberals/leftists despise that. Liberals/leftists and Totalitarians both want total domination of their ideologies. They both desire to have the entire world speak their language and blindly follow their rules. They both hate any education that allows free thought, as free thought is the most dangerous enemy to Totalitarians and liberals/leftists. The Muslims have Sharia, liberals/leftists have Political Correctness. -

I should also applaud the Bush Administration for, as in the case of 1991 when they had the entire mega-reserves of Kuwait in their grasp, turning back over the oil to the local owners, ensuring that for the 1st time in decades a transparent Iraqi govt - not the French, not Chretien's daughter, not the Russians, not the Ba'athists, not the Saddam kleptocracy - now controls its own petroleum. So much for the disgusting No Blood for Oil™ mantra. -

Black Dog: I tend to base my opinion on facts on the ground as opposed to people like you, who base their opinion on what is most likely to make the terrorists win, thus making Bush look bad. There’s a lot of crying going on in the newsrooms of the CBC and the NY Times and amongst many on the left. New Leftwing Mantra! The Bloody Mess of Iraq™ -
Strengthen is code for spend more tax dollars. Why shouldn't Canadians have the choice of private healthcare instead of having to go to the USA? If they want private health care, they can go to the USA and get it..... CANADIANS DON'T WANT PRIVATE HEALTH CARE.....You'll note that your hero, Steven Harper won't dare breathe a word about private health care... do you know why... BECAUSE CANADIANS DONT WANT IT !!! and he'll NEVER get elected promising private health care. You might want it... and your beloved Fraser Institute might want it... but CANADIANS DONT WANT IT....There are other threads where you can spout off your ridiculous ideas about health care... And there are more Americans without healthcare than there are Canadians, Cubans, and North Vietnamese citizens ...combined... Now go play somewhere else Montgomery..... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Rightwing columnist Mark Steyn was profiled today at the National Post for its Beautiful Minds contest (Canada’s most important public intellectual). Steyn is quoted on Canadian healthcare in the article: “Unlike Britain but like North Korea, in her Majesty’s northern Dominion, the public health system is such an article of faith that no private hospitals are permitted. Canada’s private health care system is called “America”.

Strengthen is code for "spend more tax dollars". Why shouldn't Canadians have the choice of private healthcare instead of having to go to the USA? Three countries in the world disallow private healthcare--Cuba, North Korea, and...Canada. Outrageous.

So much for "The Quagmire"

During the Iraq elections last January there were 347 terrorist attacks on voters and polling places. During the Constitution Vote, there were 13 attacks. So much for The Quagmire™, The Civil War™, The Theocracy™, The Seething Arab Street™, The Brutal Afghan Winter™, The Searing Hot Iraq Desert™, The Secret Afghanistan Pipeline™ and other assorted leftwing droppings. Congratulations again to the US troops, the coalition troops, the Bush Administration and the Iraqis themselves. Iraq has come a long way. Two and a half years ago, Iraq was run by a maniacal America hating, terrorist supporting dictator, who had ties to Al Qaeda, and a history of using WMD on his own people and on his neighbors. Today, the dictator sits in jail, the Iraqis have approved a Constitution--written by themselves--which guarantees freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of the press. Iraq is a democracy. Why were so many against this? -

And why would that be? Could it be because most Iraqis were voting for a constitution that they haven't read, a document which will continue to undergo revisions over the next few months, and which a large portion of the population rejected either by voting "no" (an impotent gesture, given the changes put in by the Shia/Kurdish factions that all but guaranteed a "yes" vote) or boycotting the process. Or could it because I see the constitution's passage as a purely symbolic gesture, and a lousy one at that, given if it passes, the Sunnis will be enraged and the Shi'a factional militias emboldened. If the constitution is defeated, the Sunnis will be emboldened and the Shi'a enraged: in other words: this is a win-win for the insurgency, as it pretty much guarantees the de facto civil war will continue, if not escalate. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, aren't you the Picture of Positivism. Sounds like you long for the days when Saddam was in power. Btw, I believe Saddam's trial starts this month. Sounds like October 2005 is going to be a bad month for the far left; the passage of the Iraq Constitution (the one that--according to BD--most Iraqis didn't read or understand because they are morons) and the far left's beloved Saddam Hussein going on trial. What a pity. -
Your're not painting a complete picture. Don't you think it is possible that there might be some other factors surrounding the robbery rate... like the fact that its unemployment was at an all-time high in 1996.... And how about unemployment or other factors. You have to beware of over-simplifying something that is potentially complex.... Less restrictive gun laws would increase the number of guns in circulation, and hence make it even easier for "bad guys" to get access to them.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1) No other factors in a mere 4 years. A 92% increase in the robbery rate is proof enough for me. 2) Actually, Saskatoon--with the exception of Alberta--is doing very well. Our unemployment rate is around 5 to 5.2%--about one-third below the national average. 3) As long as the "good guys" have protection--I'm f-i-n-e with that.

Canadians are forced to pay $1 billion a year to the state-run CBC to be brainwashed in America Hatred. And now they want state-run daycare, they want our children at a younger age... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The CBC is an outstanding organization. Just because it was never an extreme right-wing station, doesn't make it extreme left wing.... And brainwashing... have you been spending a lot of time ordering from Mark Emery's web site ???? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How can you cast a critical eye on a--let's be frank--corrupt Liberal govt when you might be up for the next Governor General of Canada? Canadians should not be forced to pay $1 billion per year to fund far-left political views. I disagree with the CBC's agenda and I resent being forced to pay for their far-left propaganda. If the CBC was private, I could live with--and basically ignore--them. But I have no choice to "vote" with my wallet regarding the CBC. I find that sad...

Canadian smugness debunked
Montgomery Burns replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Canada / United States Relations
What's your point, Lionus? The US economy sucks? Their unemployment rate is 4.9% (Canada 6.8%) and their GDP growth has been very stellar for over 2 years. Some were calling for Bush's head--in as much as a President can "control" the economy--when the unemployment rate rose to 6.4% after the effects of an inherited recession, a major stock scandal, and 9-11. In the US, a 6.4% unemployment rate is poor. In Canada, a 6.8% unemployment rate is excellent. Some people just seem to set higher standards for themselves... -

You might remember Louisiana's Aaron Broussard, the loud and antagonistic President of Jefferson County, who blamed all the ills visted on his Parish on everyone but himself. Typical. Well, it appears that the citizens of Jefferson County aren't too happy with Broussard: And now for The Quote Of The Day™: Damn. I wish more Canadians had Danny Callahan's attitude. Cheers to you, sir. Unfortunately, Canada is infested with labor unions who seem to constantly strike. The BC Teachers Union wants a 15% raise over 3 years and they already make $65,000 a year for not a terribly demanding (to be polite--15 to 30 hours a week and tons of paid holidays) job.

Boondoggle: Reuters: US blocks U.N. briefing on atrocities in Sudan Less talk, more action! Kofi's stern response to this? There ya go. Punish the victims. The UN has become a toothless irrelevant body.

Toro: There you go. A 23.5% increase in non-defense spending in only 4 or 5 years. The Highway Bill, the millions to Alaska for a bridge that links a few dozen people, $28 million to the Arts Community (who mostly hate Bush's guts), and billions to the LA Hurricane Katrina victims (free trailers for previous renters and thousands per person in "free" education). Way too much spending. Not very conservative in domestic issues.
