Bill C-6 Debate Filibuster Drinking Game
Triple M replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The NDP have stood up for their base and workers but isn't it time for them to let this bill pass???? -
I would like to see more tax cuts for average people as well but lets not forget that their has been some tax relief over the last 5 years in terms of the GST/taking people off tax rolls. With that being said I would argue that the avg Canadian overall has seen little reduction overall.

"NDP prepares to drop 'socialism' reference"
Triple M replied to a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Reformers couldn't win without Tories and vice versa. The Conservative party/Progressive Conservative party/New Conservative party has almost always been a coalition of Eastern Tories and Western reformers. -
The graph is showing how certain those who were polled are of voting in the up coming election by party. 90% of Tories are certain(60%) or somewhat certain(30%) they will be voting, the ndp is at 84%, and the Libs are at 66%

Prince Edward Island Election 2011
Triple M replied to Smallc's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Other than Binns 11 years in office the Grits have been in power for the vast majority of the time and in this upcoming election there are projections of them winning every seat in the province. I don't think i've seen that happen, but in BC and NB it was pretty close with the opposition having 1 or 2 members if I can recall. -
Prince Edward Island Election 2011
Triple M replied to Smallc's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
All I know is Ghiz seems to have a huge lead in the polls and is pretty popular at the moment. If the election was held today he would have a massive victory and most aren't expecting that to change when October rolls around. -
Not to be overly partisan but I don't see the Liberals defeating Harper. When the Liberals or a new centrist party that takes over their legacy eventually win an election I don't foresee Harper being around to defeat. In 2015 I just don't see the Liberals beings in the shape needed to beat Harper. Therefore, If they don't get him at that time then it will probably never come seeing as Harper would have been PM for 10+ years and would probably not run in a 6th federal election.

Liberal Red Books 1993,1997,2000,2005
Triple M replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Tories are far from perfect but they have been pretty solid in keeping their promises or as solid as one would expect the government to be. So, to compare them to the Liberals who had majority after majority to get their agenda through is far from fair. However, to be fair to the liberals I'm relieve that once in government they were smart enough not to go through with some unrealistic or flat out bad but popular public policy. I would of probably liked to see the CPC do that with their GST promise. -
A What If: Liberal Democratic Party in Election 2011
Triple M replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That is an interesting point, it would be interesting to see if the NDP can be seen as the party that is the best suited to keep the country together. -
How Will Quebec React to Parliament Near-Shutout?

RB Bennett didn't rely on members from Quebec as well if I'm not mistaken. -
A What If: Liberal Democratic Party in Election 2011
Triple M replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess it depends if this party is seen more as the NDP or if people see it closer to the liberal party. In this election we've seen blue liberals move over into the CPC camp especially in the GTA/Toronto and we could of potentially seen more of that if this Lib/Dem party was seen as More NDP than Liberal. On the other hand how would it impact this party in regions where the NDP are strong but the Liberals have a damaged brand??? Would Quebecers/Westerners vote for a party that had a connection to the Liberal party???? Finally how many left to far left voters would feel betrayed by such a party and move one to some other brand of left wing party???? With all that being said I really think there is no better way to ensure a long string of Tory majorities better than a united left wing party. Especially if they don't come together for some time yet. -

"SOVEREIGNTY WILL BE DONE IN QUEBEC!"
Triple M replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I was born outside of this country but I see my self as part of an English Canada due to going through those institutions. -
Not bad in fact I think this is more realistic then the one I tried to put together.

Going off the one interview I've seen she seems a bit like an air head. Yet I've seen others describe her as smart so hopefully my first impression of her is off.

I agree with the poster speaking about the Judges discretion. However, what if that argument was expanded to the death penalty???? Why should parliament take away the judges discretion in that sphere?????
-
Maybe Canadians were tired of getting polled constantly during the last 7 years of minorities that they mislead pollsters in frustrations.

"SOVEREIGNTY WILL BE DONE IN QUEBEC!"
Triple M replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree with an earlier poster who described Canada as multi national(First, French, and English) but Quebec it self is a province. IMO it doesn't deserve special arrangements over other provinces and to expand on that it disturbs me that Franco Ontarians, Franco Manitobans, Arcadians are ignored in the modern political landscape. So overall I think we need to deal with the serious issues that both first and french nations have with the way our country works. -
Chris is a rookie though I'm not sure harper will want to put him in such a senior role instead he could be put in one of the junior spots.

I wouldn't mind seeing a preferential ballot or a run off between the top 2 candidates. I'm not sure anyone is proposing this. The NDP/Green parties seem to prefer Proportional Representation while CPC probably doesn't want to see changes because the current system favours them. What will be interesting to see is if the Liberals change their mind now that they are a 3rd party.

Does the Death of the BLOC mean the end of Sovereignty?
Triple M replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Agreed, I was surprised to learn of some of their soft nationalist policies. Right now I'm questioning whether they can even be considered a National party. -
Does the Death of the BLOC mean the end of Sovereignty?
Triple M replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sovereignty hasn't been a realistic threat in a number of years but it will never be completely dead no matter where parties such as the BQ/PQ stand. There is still a hardcore sovereignty core of around 20-30% and there is a large group of soft nationalist that potentially can flip back at a future date.
