  1. didn't want to start a new thread but did anyone see this interview http://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=708807&binId=1.1145463&playlistPageNum=2#_gus&_gucid=&_gup=Facebook&_gsc=QUajqPK Why would anyone sit down with this interviewer after the dion fiasco?? Trudeau definitely could have explained his deficit position better than claiming that he always planned to run deficits.
  2. Ipsos Reid LPC 33 NDP 30 Con 27 +/- 3.4 Seems like a large margin of era but if the libs show signs of momentum than maybe they will get a lot of the time for change voters to swing over. With that said these polls aren't making to much sense to me because it seems like they come to radically different conclusion on the same questions
  3. The Tories might get wiped out in the 416 but will remain competitive in the 905 (except Mississauga). However I honestly didn't understand how they won 9 seats in Toronto in the first place.
  4. I've always felt the niqab was more cultural than religious. I was raised Muslim but i'm far from an expert but personally have felt it was a innovation . The pilgrimage is ongoing and I'm pretty certain that the niqab is not allowed. I still disagree with how the government is going about this issue, a lot of people are still under the impression that these women aren't identified at all
  5. or he has managed us through those unstable economic situations and has the experience to deal with upcoming situation, take that for what is worth.
  6. The Cons must be in more trouble than it looks because they seem to be focusing their message to their base. I think one Tory commentator mentioned how the PM was directing his message more so to the people who voted for him in 08 than 11
  7. No mention of productivity, investments and skill development in an economic debate???
  8. I find the talking points mind-numbing. Mulcair has been the most level headed
  9. It will be interesting to see how the 3way race plays out in the debates. The LPC/NDP have been forcibly going after each other this week and Harper has been attacking both daily. I would think the person who is able to stand back while his opponents attack each other stands to benefit
  10. i'm well aware of that just mentioned it because it could stabilize a hung parliament minority situation. If the NDP/LPC don't bring down Harper that might hurt one of them in the polls. However if the 3rd party doesn't have to worry about replacing harper then they might not want to risk propping up the official opposition.
  11. Could the Cons survive if Harper steps down and the house doesn't sit until a new leader is elected?
  12. If the election is that close than 2 or even all 3 need to work together for the first year at minimum. 2016 might be a fragile year and I hope all parties can be less petty especially Harper
  13. If the 2nd and 3rd parties have the same amount of seats than which party gets to form the official opposition?? Also if the opposition is asked to form a government than which party gets the first shot??
  14. Don't think we'll see major changes until post election/Thanksgiving
  15. I would like to see Brad Wall as CPC leader after Harper Are Lord or McKay still viable for future leadership
  16. i think Ekos, Forum, and Nanos all show CPC the tories have had a bump over the last few days.
  17. Haven't the recent polls shown that the numbers in considering the Tories have actually gone up over the last few days.
  18. I take numbers with some grain of thought, for example i don't think that the NDP was ever at 40% or at 36% , or the CPC was in the low 20's. However, i feel forum deserves credit because they were the first poll showing the Tories in 3rd. I think what is significant in the last few polls seems like the CPC might be benefiting from the Trudeau serge. Dissatisfied Tories that were looking at the NDP might be holding their nose fearful of a Trudeau victory. I feel that observation holds up in the numbers from BC and the Parries. Ontario might be a different issue i think the movement is from soft Lib/CPC shifting, especially in the 905/suburban metro Toronto.
  19. Their position on the senate has been clear over the years but I am interested in how the senate would operate under a NDP government. I am guessing there would be no leader of the NDP in the senate but how would the NDP get their agenda through a conservative majority senate???
  20. Outside of this thread i have not seen any talk of this but it is an interesting thought. However, i don't think they would try to delay the sitting of the house until late winter. They might try to bring the liberals on side for the throne speech than prorogue.
  21. I'm of Somali descent and while I enjoyed my visit there a few years ago I'm truly glad I was given a better opportunity. This country has allowed for greater prosperity not only for me and my family but for the countless others we support back home.
  22. Getting rid of the senate will hurt not only governance but our democracy and even our country. The senate is far from perfect in its current function and quite costly as well but it can be worth the cost if we take sensible approaches. The make up of our country with many cultural, national, and linguistic communities along with its regional divides makes the prospect of one legislative house balancing all those demands quite challenging.
  23. The senate can do an important job that other bodies can't just because it doesn't function as it should currently doesn't mean we should throw the baby out with the bath water. Despite all the issues we have with our senate are we going to fail to see the actual good work they do on our behalf?????
  24. What if we just open up the appointment process so that the senate isn't stuffed with political hacks. With that being said I don't really see a PM giving up his power but that would most likely be the easiest way to change the senate for the better. As for abolishing the senate to me that makes little sense for many of the reason's already stated in this thread. Anyways to solve the senate issue what are some of the ideal objectives that a senate should accomplish then we can figure out how to get there. For example the senate should have a longer term view point than the house, it should rep minority communities/regions so things are not forced onto them, etc.
  25. you could always switch your SAP on your tv to french when there is a french speaker and back to English when there is an English speaker.
