  1. My mum had a stroke. She had "full GOVERNMENT coverage" and she received timely care. My cousin had breast cancer. She had "full GOVERNMENT coverage" and she received timely care. I could go on, but you get the point. or do you?
  2. I like the artivle and agree with it... which is why I posted it. Now, how about yourself? Do you have anything to add? Do you agree, disagree? Anything catch your iunterest enough to discuss it, or are you just here to rap my knuckles?
  3. New Rule: Not Everything in America Has to Make a Profit cont'd at Bill Maher Blogspot
  4. I don't see a point either. If the son was an "honourable", maybe. But he wasn't. His behaviour is his own, and has nothing to do with his father.
  5. Yes I did. I don't see how that matters. It might in sentencing, because it would be easier to prove premeditation, but either way, a family member was killed.
  6. I must have missed it.
  7. No-one is trying to downplay it as common murder. We're simply waiting for the facts to come in to decide. I'm wondering something though.... does the motive really matter one way or another? Is this any different than a man killing his kids so his ex-wife can't have them? Or any other reason/excuse?
  8. We didn't when I was a kid, and my kids don't now. If I remember right.... this school didn't have a daily singing either.
  9. well duh. that's the law. you can't just let anybody get a copy.
  10. So... contrary to what everyone says, Obama still might not be a citizen because some website says so? I'm sorry, but that site appears to be a blog, or similar. THat doesn't really constitute any proof for me. It's just some guy's opinion.
  11. I already asked, and he provided a couple of irrelevant links.
  12. Yeah... I went back and checked the first page of this thread. You didn't make it clear there that you were referring to Radical Islam... and you couldn't even make it thorugh this post without generalizing all Muslims.
  13. Right. So let's not jump in to blame the Muslims and demand that we not allow any of "them" into Canada. Just responding to what's thrown at me.
  14. People blame "Islam" for the action of the radicals. The point here is that there's nothing in Islam or the Koran to validate their actions. Like certain Christian fundamentalist groups as well as extremists from other religions, they're using their own twisted version of the religion to justify their actions. We are better in the way we treat women, sure, but we're still not equal, and the condemnation is certainly not universal. Feminism isn't done, not by any means. Let's just say we have different fears then. Thank you. That does change things.
  15. Thank you for the clarification. The article linked to in this topic does mention that... but the one in the other thread wasn't clear. Actually.... it was confusing the way they tried to explain who was who. Yes, I did think the woman was the mother. I now have to rethink my position somewhat, because that changes things. If you can find anything about the DLs... yes, I'd like to see that too. Thanks.
  16. THe treaties we made with the natives are immoral? Hang on. Let me grab a coffee. This should be interesting. Im in BC, and as I underswtand it, that's how it works here. Natives also pay income tax too, for money earned off the reserve.
  17. I'm not ignoring the background... I'm waiting to see if it's relevant. But all right. Saudi women can't drive cars, nor can a woman alone in Iran. This happened in Canada though. I looked at the article but didn't see any mention at all about whether any of these women had (or didn't have) a DL. Have you read that elsewhere? Or is this a strawman argument? And for the record - my criticisms of our western civilization are perfectly valid. That is false.
  18. Natives pay tax on purchases made off reserve, unless it's being delivered there. They pay taxes when they shop everywhere else. As for apologists - we simply expect our gov't to live up the the treaty agreements until the land claims are settled. I don't see how anyone can have a problem with that.
  19. I know that, and I find it repugnant. Although... there are days when I wouldn't mind covering myself from head to toe. I'm never wrong. I'm not ignoring the background. I see it as an excuse to kill some people they wanted out of their lives. Maybe wife #2 didn't want #1 and her kids around. Maybe dad didn't like one of the daughters going public about abuse she'd suffered... maybe he was afraid HE'D lose face because of his OWN actions, so he offed them before they could talk. Maybe this is an honour killing, but so far, based on what I've read, it looks like plain old murder to me.
  20. I'm not retracting my earlier statement, just acknowledging that it wasn't well presented. I would be interested in an actual comparison, not just anecdotes pulled from google. I don't believe that there is less domestic violence in the west. I believe the numbers would probably be similar.
  21. Sure we're freest and safest... but I still wouldn't wander around at night by myself.
  22. That isn't what I'm claiming. I'm simply saying that domestic violence is far from unheard-of here. Whether women suffer equal violence here as there, I don't know about that. But spousal abuse happens far too often.
  23. Most of them aren't "backwards", are they? Contrary to what you seem to believe, "honour killings" are rare in Canada.
