We all go through a spell where we question our beliefs. For some reason, people that choose to become atheists/agnostics are seen to have made the "correct" choice - that their reasonong is better. Those of us who chose to remain in the faith are seen as what... sheep? Illogical? I'm not sitting around all wounded and insulted. My faith isn't so weak that you have that sort of power over me. I was just pointing out the insult in that statement.... you can see it or not. Doesn't bother me either way.

We shouldn't take questions about our faith - and how it couldn't possibly be based on reason - to heart? And no, I don't really think you want to understand. Reading even the few responses on this thread should give you an indication why.

I'm going to assume you don't realize the insult in your statement. You don't think faith can be based on reason? You think people of faith just run their fingers down the listings in the phone book, randomly selecting their faith? And then blindly stick with it, because reason couldn't possibly enter into the equation?

haha! I remember SNL put up a pic of Ronald Reagan and asked people to moon him and send in the pics. I took a pic of a couple of my friends... but we didn't send it anywhere.

Liberals Falsely Slander Harper: Communion Host
lily replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Communion in the RC church is quite different from communion in most protestant churches. I also didn't claim that the priest put the wafer in Harper's mouth. I believe what I said was in teh Catholic communions I've seen. I'm not in a postion to say how it's usually done. I do know that none of the "body and blood" is to be wasted though. I made the comment about placing it directly on the person's tongue (not lips) because of this... no crumbs, no waste. I wonder why Harper didn't eat it right away. THat seems odd... when everyone else would have been. -
I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you're asking here. You mention a leap from believing that there's a creator to believing this creator "watches over us and cares for us". And then you want opinions on why that is, and why we believe that our beliefs trump everyone else;s? Well, right off the top... you're presenting your opinion as fact and then asking for an explanation of that fact, and then making a further supposition. I don't push my beliefs on others. I believe most of the world's major religions have more in common than differences, so I'm not going to claim that mine is the only correct one. It's simply the one that makes the most sense to me... and it works for me. Funny. It's my opinion that these discussions are usually started by the non-religious folk.

Liberals Falsely Slander Harper: Communion Host
lily replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Catholics believe that the wafer IS the host, not just symbolic. In the churches I've been in, the wafer is placed directly on the tongue, and it's imperative that no crumbs fall on the floor. He should have done what everyone else did, and take it right away. I have no idea why he'd hang onto it. -
Sounds like Ralph Bucks.

West Vancouver officer avoids jail for assault

I'm waiting for Jeff Klassen to face his charges. I don't think he'll get off so lightly. But the West Van cop didn't get off lightly. It's a first offense; he'll likely lose his job over it as well. -

I didn't say it was a church service, but since you want to go there, it was a Catholic funeral mass, was it not? If I went to a Muslim or Jewish service, I wouldn't be receiving communion, so that's a silly statement at best. If you're referring to other customs.... I'd make darn good and sure I knew what was expected of me ahead of time. I'd ask, and if I wasn't sure, i'd keep my butt parked in the pew. -

When in Rome and all. If you're at your own church, do whatever you're comfortable with. When in someone else's, respect their customs. -

Liberals Falsely Slander Harper: Communion Host

Most times, I wouldn't care. Personally, I follow the example of those around me - if they take it right away, so do I. If they wait till everyone has theirs, I follow suit. Catholics are different though. The wafer isn't a symbol, so it's treated differently. He should have done what everyone else did and eaten it right away. There should have been no doubt what he did with it. -

Without proof, either scenario is the same. -

Funny you should mention false innuendo right on the heels of your own innuendo. -

What you seem to miss is: whether we're treated in Canada or in the US (or elsewhere), we're treated. can you say the same for your fellow Americans?

Has the national Anthem lost all meaning?
lily replied to Machjo's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I admit, sometimes I prefer an instrumental, because then I can sing along. -

You keep mentioning the instrumental version. I don't think anyone has a problem with using that... but at an international event where more than one country's anthem will be played, doesn't it make sense to have them all be the "same"? Why use an instrumental for one and have a live singer for another? -
"Birthers" movement problem for GOP

Obama HAS proved it. THe State of Hawaii has confirmed it. But sure. Feel free to lend credence to the nutjobs because they "seem to feel" his mother was out of the country at the time of his birth. -

Why aren't you asking these birthers to prove their claims? The burdon of proof is on the nutjobs. -

It's a non-issue. I really don't see why it wasn't laid to rest when the State of Hawaii itself declared he was born there. What difference does that make? -

Ours does have words though. 2 sets, as you pointed out (3, if you include the bilingual version). Is it too much to ask someone to sing it? Sheryl Crow could have done both, or they could have brought in another singer... French, English... either works.
