New Zealand? And yes, we are incredibly lucky. I'm happier living in Canada than anywhere else I've been (although in 30 - 35 years I might not mind retiring to Italy if it is still the same as now). Shady, Canada Day fits us. It's a day of rest, relaxation, celebration, inclusion - just doing what ever one wants to do. Which is Canada is it not?

They'll get Khadr and then everything will be ok ... justice will have been served. Vindication is mine says the USA government.

Harper: Canada never so united since 1967
Fortunata replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He offered honest, clean transparent government and what did we get - more of the same old corruption. As far as the argument goes that they haven't reached Liberal proportions yet, my question is ... how many things does one have to steal to be called a thief, how many lies does one tell before they are a liar, how many scandals before one is no longer clean, how many secrets before one is called nontransparent? I don't call this government successful. They are low in the polls because of this and because people don't trust Harper. He is either a huge flip flopper on what he formerly believed or he doesn't have convictions necessary to really have a vision. The spin is he doesn't back down but look what he now espouses compared to just a few short years ago. -
Hahaha, I laughed so hard when I read this I had to be rescued from choking. Our Steve, who wouldn't sign the UN Aboriginal Declaration, who has cut women's programs, the Court Challenge Program, etc got this award? Hahahahaha. But then I read that Henry Morgentaler received the Order of Canada. The bottom of the barrel has been scraped. Make no mistake, he is a bully. He wouldn't have earned the on-going label and reputation is he wasn't. Ho ho ho, what a funny world.

Give her a year or so and she'll jump on the lobby bandwagon.

I guess that's why Layton spends more time criticizing the Liberals than he does the reigning Conservatives.
-
I think only the most partisan would give either party a ringing endorsement (Cons and Libs I mean) and anyone in their right mind wouldn't endorse Layton. Would they?
-
I think Gomery did show bias against Chretien but that shouldn't prove Chretien and the PMO weren't guilty of sponsorship dollars. I mean who the hell was in charge anyways?

Voters do funny things. It's hard to believe Harper and his circus are likely to be re-elected but that's the reality of it.

My parents and brothers are actual Alberta farmers and they all support the CWB. Maybe you don't want to face that there are Albertans that don't share your opinion.

We don't demand more civil service. We just want service for the money we do put in. Managers empire build; managers see administration and not the "service" part of civil service. You go to some departments and it's like they are doing you a favour instead of realizing that if not for you they would not have the job they do. And they forget that they should finish their conversation with their co-worker after they serve you instead of making you wait until they finish. They forget they are there to do me, the public, a service. Not all are like that of course but I have run into it enough to think it happens quite a lot. As far as PT goes, wasn't he voted in as Canada's best PM and Mulroney the worst?
-
It would.

And some of them should have kept their previous job.

I don't think Harper is too worried about broadening his MP's knowledge. To me it's more.. "who can I put in there that will screw up the least?"

Harper calls himself 'true Quebec nationalist'

This PM would say anything and do anything short of selling his own children to get a majority. This is why what he says and does is not trusted as what he really believes. It's really all quite slimy. -
What makes him scum? His family name? The fact that he lived by his father's rules, knowing nothing else? What if: you have a 14 year old child. You have brought him up by your beliefs and morals. A drastic change in government ensues and your child is placed in a detention centre because of what he believes. People believe he is scum and should be treated badly. Is your son responsible or are you responsible for what he believes? Would he believe differently if he weren't under your roof given guidance by you? I still say, should his last name not be Khadr, we would be having a whole different discussion.

So we should ignore any and all injustices until, worldwide, all of them can be fixed?
-
That Dion - he is just scary*scary*scary!

IF it were a fair, simple question with fair debate and fair voting (no culling of known pro-CWB farmers) it would help. I mean, the Cons tactics were equal to those of communist countries, quiet the dissent by all known means, then vote. Something like Mugabe is doing in Zimbabwe right now.

Outrageous Fortune! Too bad, he was very funny.

Yes they are and, yes, juries can rule a lesser conviction. As for the rest of it, Buffy doesn't seem to be cheering a police officer's death. She is cheering that police aren't allowed to rampage regardless of who the person is. There have been instances in the past where the police enter an innocent house and deaths, injuries and trauma have resulted. Police have too much power as it is and when they use that power illegally, well, there just is a problem. If all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed, fine but that is not the case here. I'm sorry for the policeman's death. I'm sorry for the Mayerthorpe policemen's deaths. There is a price to be paid I guess for stupidity, bad judgement and lack of procedure regardless of who you are and what you do.

How can we judge if he is innocent or not since the system Bush has set up doesn't allow anyone to know any details. If ever there was an apparent frame-job this is it. Bush needs a conviction to justify the whole Guantanamo thing and Khadr is an easy target: a 15 year old child and by the very culture he was living under, very much controlled by his father; a country whose populace despises the name he bears; no real representation and a government that fails to back it's own citizens. How can he have justice since there seems to be so many strikes against him not even of his making?

That's pretty ignorant. I would like to see the dealer brought up on drug and gun related charges and the book thrown at him. He should have been charged with manslaughter but the jury could have found him guilty of that even though charged with first degree (am I right about this?). I don't want to see a gun society here like they have in other countries but I don't like to see the cops get away with illegalities that one equates with undemocratic countries either.

What if he is innocent? There seems to be serious questions about if he was the one that threw the grenade. Would you have him sit in a prison for the rest of his life because of his family? That seems to be the only reason that Canadians don't want him released. How would you like to be punished for the behaviour of your parents who had complete control of you when you were 14?
