  1. This seems to be the general pattern of the CPC since it was put into government (and even before?) and parroted by the herd. If it's something that could stick to them adversely it must be: someone else's fault, a misinterpretation, unfair targeting by the media, ...but the Liberals ... (were worse), etc. What continues to flummox me is that the conservative brand is supposed to be all about taking personal responsibility. They preach it but don't follow it. They have a justification or excuse for everything that has happened instead of just manning up, taking the heat and learning from it.
  2. No, you quoted my concern about you co-opting threads. Nice try though.
  3. I'm in a great position to call you one since not once in all those old posts you dug up did I say you shouldn't or didn't have the right to post here.
  4. I didn't say anything about guilt or innocence; to me that's immaterial to why our government stepped in. There was a Canadian on death row in the USA and Harper said he wouldn't interfere. There are two men in Saudi Arabia that appear to be innocent of the murder charges they have been convicted of; one is slated for public execution and the other for public lashing. Seems to me both these cases merits attention as much or more than Brenda Martin.
  5. LOL, take a look at your own posts. The whine is ... but the Liberals.... It only fits if you make it fit. Do as I say but not as I do, right? Are you being deliberately obtuse?
  6. I don't know about Roth but the only reason Martin received such help from the Canadian government is because her case became such high profile in the media and they had to be seen to do something. It was all political; you can't tell me that Harper cares one whit about Brenda Martin. Now having said that, if I don't ever see Martin's sniveling face on tv again, I will be more than happy.
  7. You are such a liar as I have proven more than once. Quit lying.
  8. Show me where in my post I personally attacked you. As for Bernier, as soon as any girlfriend, wife or what have you becomes privy to the workplace, they should be treated as though they are privy to all the workplace. Bernier is the minister of a very important portfolio with very high-level security issues. If there is any question to whether they may hear anything then becomes part of our security. Bernier wanting to bring her to international meetings should tell even the most partisan this.
  9. (tune the familiar whine).... but the Liberals.... Bernier made it public business with the girlfriend as soon as he brought her into his workplace, i.e. his swearing in. Anyone that may be privy to his government work in any form should be checked out and security cleared. If he had left her at home baking cinnamon buns, then maybe it wouldn't be such a security issue.
  10. Israel just is, which has been quite the feat, that's why. I don't condone all their tactics like I don't condone tactics from the Palestinian side. I think both states have a right to exist. Yep, quite the man our PM has turned out to be. Nasty, sliming, classless and never takes the high road unless there is something in it for him.
  11. Let me see if I got this straight ... if we don't spell words with American spelling we are spelling them wrong; if we don't rah rah rah all about the place we are not proud of our country; if we don't stomp and prosecute dissension then we don't make the grade; if we don't celebrate our "Canadianness" with as much visual gusto as Americans we are not patriotic? To sum up then, if we are not just like you then we don't rate? Uh huh. I bet.
  12. Shakey, maybe type that last comment slower so MB gets what you were saying.
  13. If the organizers of this event were smart they would invite all the leaders and their minions. And if the leaders and their minions were smart they would all attend.
  14. .....but the Liberals .....
  15. Ten million over 1.5 years if it is done now versus who knows how many million over how many years due to further deterioration down the road? It should be done immediately. After all ... it would come out to be less than 20k per day, maybe not much more than Ministers' limo costs if it's all added up.
  16. Are you serious? Is there anything this party could do to make the partisan criticize them? Our "new" government being open, transparent and accountable.
  17. Yep, sure does. It is not proper for our Prime Minister to live in a dumpy run down residence with Mila Mulroney's old worn out leopard spotted carpet and drafty windows that Rick Mercer had to plastic. I guess Steve just doesn't have any class - from old fishing vests at an international meetings to willingly let dignitaries view a shambles of a mansion .... what were we thinking?
  18. I do agree with your point. My point is valid as well. How do you chose something that you do not know exists?
  19. It's possible that the 81% that believe Sharia law will end corruption sees that as the only way out. Democracy is new concept; one that people are not fully informed of and are not aware that this type of system brings alternatives other than strictly black or white (either corruption or a return to oppressive Sharia law). Maybe Afghanis are forgetting the corruption (and oppression) under the Taliban (who imposed Sharia Law). Taliban officials lived in luxury, took from less well to do to fund their lifestyle, enjoyed depravities that were forbidden (and punished non-Talibans who might have done the same).
  20. My aunt is the hardest core conservative I have ever met. She (among many others) voted Wild Rose in this past provincial election. I know provincial is not federal but it proves my point (sorta). Albertans will go conservative of varying degrees regardless of whether the policies are conservative or not (i.e. Flaherty's more liberal than Liberal spending).
  21. I don't know how many others but the net benefit to society is openness and transparency which is the very core of democracy. Think about this: the government keeps these stats regardless of whether the public can access them or not. How much is it to keep it on the internet along with everything else the government has on the internet? Very little I would think.
  22. Agreed to a certain extent except Reform had the "conservative" brand as an alternative to Mulroney's corrupt party, which the west wasn't the only region fed up with it as the election results proved. The west would leave one conservative party for another. It's kind of ironic that the west blames the east for being sheep putting in the Liberals but, in reality, easterners aren't adverse to changing from liberal to conservative, (i.e. Clark, Mulroney, Harper) when they feel there is a need but the west wouldn't vote anything but conservative to save their lives.
  23. If it were only used once in a blue moon it wouldn't be important enough for the press to be worried imo. That it is used "extensively" by some (as Russo said of his colleagues at the Canadian Press) is enough to be kept as those numbers have to be kept for tracking by the government anyways, yes? If the timeframes aren't public, how is this transparent? Is Harper trying to hide the fact that times have doubled? As far as alienating the media, Harper doesn't care. He has already dubbed the media "liberal" and now can point to them and say, well they are always down on us poor Cons. Regardless of what people say I really think that Harper is paranoid to a certain extent about the "liberal" press, the "liberal" bureaucracy, etc. This is why we see him do what he has done over his PMship. You put this one small thing together with all the other small things and see what you make of it.
  24. I think you might have heard wrong. Susan Delacourt says she doesn't use it herself but knows lots who do. Chris Hall didn't say if he used it or if he knew anyone who did. Don Martin says he never has heard of it. Rob Russo said two of his colleagues use it extensively. Rob Russo also said that the time frame for information has effectively doubled since the Conservatives have come to power.
  25. The base in the west would vote Con even if a dead horse was on the ballot. As long as it has the Conservative label it is as good as in.
