Spot on! The right really don't have steadfast convictions: they believe in the rule of law unless it involves someone like Khadr (even though he was a child heavily under the influence of his families convictions and, even if proven not guilty in the US's kangaroo court won't believe it), they don't believe in abortion unless it is someone like a Khadr. There is really no true ethics or morality that you can count on with the far right. The only thing you can count on is double standards.

RCMP raids Tory party headquarters
Fortunata replied to Shakeyhands's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Cons' seemingly only argument ... but the Liberals...! How about the Conservatives play by the rules instead of trying to blame the Liberals for their own lack of ethics and procedures? -
It's funny that so many from the right who don't seem too concerned at all about anyone's rights are concerned about a fetus' rights. What if that fetus was a Khadr. Still concerned?

Dona Cadman seems to be playing both sides; whatever whenever it might suit her. She doesn't seem to have the ethics that her late husband did. But it's she that has to live with herself.

Alberta's record tarnished, Dion says
Fortunata replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
LOL, Albertans' morals are no different than anyone else's. Who do you think they are, the promised people or what? -
YAY! I'm enjoying the moment. It might not last but today, that's good news. Harper has got his hands deep in our pockets, however. He can afford to come up with something that will buy him votes.

You still don't get it. The way Harper handles situations is not Prime Ministerial. In fact I would call it cowardly - he makes his slurs in the House alright which I guess it makes it legal but not any more ethical. But he took bits and pieces from the Liberals and put them in his "Prime Ministerial" attack ads out of context. I agree with that, in OR out of the HoC. There are many others who feel the same way but I don't. I don't believe in all this rhetoric that is thrown around. Someone made the comment that politics is a spectator sport; probably the same people would enjoy the old gladiator sports back in Roman times. And I find your arguments partisan. Harper is your golden boy, fine. I don't like him. I will be very happy when he is no longer leading the CPC. I have a relative that is in the RCMP. He told me that getting transferred is very trying to start with -- depending on who's in charge of the detachment is the tone that the members take. Some good, some bad. Harper sets a bad tone. New leader = new party. And no, my "favourites" haven't shown up in Parliament ... yet.

Re-open being the operative word. No cure. Exactly. And the way it was done? Firing done in the dead of night; firing someone for closing it whose job it was to oversee the safety? Her job was nothing to do with the isotopes Chalk River produced, but she got fired for not keeping the plant open to produce them. I'm beginning to think ... but the Liberals... is the Conservative's whole raison d'etre.

Since they (al Qaeda) don't come out of Pakistan or hide in the shadows of Afghanistan, good luck with that. You've had lots of chances to kill these past few years and I don't see it making much of a difference. One thing they seem to be good at is learning from their defeats. Are you? Are we? Edited - what good grammar I have, lol.

So you don't think he's employing a double standard? Or are you one of the herd that either doesn't see it or doesn't care or thinks it is a necessary tool, no matter how low he stoops?

Don't mistake this for a humanitarian award. It's not. It's a friend to Israel award, which there is nothing wrong with, but I'd rather we take a middle road between Israel and Palestine where we might be able to help (as doubtful as any "helping" might accomplish). Steve is no more a humanitarian than I am a Buddhist monk. He's the type that kicks you when you are down as soon as everyone's back is turned. Give him a majority and he'll kick you right in front of everybody. Haha, humanitarian. That makes me laugh.

A piece from CBC said that it looks like al Qaeda are now helping the Taliban with strategy. That's how the prison break could be executed with so few. This can't be good.

You did misunderstand, as this really has nothing to do with the actual libel suit at all but the methodology that Harper uses. He doesn't mind taking sound bites from the Libs out of context and putting his own spin on their words, but hey .... I guess that's ok as long as you're a Con. They don't mind attributing completely untrue characterizations to people, like what the Taliban Jack thing came to. It's the big stick theory .... use double the stick that is necessary. Or triple. I think the lawsuit thing is disgraceful to start with. The Libs no more defamed Harper than what the tape indicated or what they have done to others themselves. People will believe it or not - Steve (just call me Sue) Harper thinks that this will get him more votes? I think that it will do the opposite as most people don't like this kind of action. It is unPrime Ministerial as we have seen time and again from this thug-type character. And, babble - no I don't subscribe there nor even read there. I am not an NDP sympathizer (not even closet) and I am not a Liberal, just in case you want to label me.

If he thought it would decimate the Liberal Party for good he would. Our Steve needs to grow a little "tramp" mustache to go with his personality.

Harper: Canada never so united since 1967
Fortunata replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No, hope as in a hope for promises kept such as: ethical government, honest government, a transparent government. I should have said trust as eyeball did. Nothing to do with Liberalism as you so like to label or anything green, but just good common-sense middle of the road life. -

Afghan Girl's 'Honour Killing' Sparks Debate in Germany
Fortunata replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
Personally I like the idea of assimilation instead of multiculturalism. They say assimilation happens with the second generation but not always and that first generation can really cause havoc.
