Hahaha, we wanted to boycott Danish pastry? News to me. My favourites are just up the street from work: boysenberry, raspberry or blueberry. Take your pick, they are all delish. Maybe I'll have one for dessert right after I have a plate of "freedom fries" (with cheese curd and gravy, of course).

You are claiming it is libel without it going through the courts first. The Libs are guilty (not the author) until they prove themselves innocent in a court of law, isn't that what you have essentially claimed?
-
You partisanly claim that it is libel when it has not been proven to be untrue. If the book is published and released to the public with the "libelous" quote and then that passage is used by another parties; who is to blame? The originator or the subsequent vehicles who has only taken the author at his word? Harper has been known to spin, misconstrue and mislead about things - why would anyone take his word over someone else's?

Spectrum Auction: Federal Tax Cut Soon?
Fortunata replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Steve knows there is an election coming and he needs to buy votes now. -
I think Dion is now a little more confident, no doubt bolstered by people like Rae and Ignatieff (who want an election so as to turf Dion). So what this means is that the Libs are (or think they are) ready for an election. People could care less.

RCMP raids Tory party headquarters
Fortunata replied to Shakeyhands's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Those who think Elections Canada is biased against the CPC are looking for excuses for outrage. Something like all the media are against the CPC. Something like nothing is the CPC's fault - it's everybody/anybody elses. To me it just doesn't fly. Elections Canada wasn't getting what they thought they needed from the CPC so they had to resort to going to get it themselves. It's like so much of what this government does - secrecy, obfuscation, misconstruence to downright lies. And yet the herd justifies every last little bit of moral dishonesty they perpetrate. Nice. -
Will lower crime rate hurt Conservatives?
Fortunata replied to capricorn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Nope, I'm surely not. Ah yes, ... but the Liberals. Muck is muck. When you wade in it you stink just as bad as those who wallow. -

My comment actually is: You cannot gauge corruption by the number of boxes taken nor the number of boxes returned. Elections Canada is not biased against the CPC so you have to wonder what they had asked for repeatedly and not been given; that they had to resort to these measures to get to the truth. And that really is the bottom line - gloss over it how you will. -
Will lower crime rate hurt Conservatives?

They haven't seemed to. Look at all the attack ads and not even election time. So the Cons aren't above fearmongering themselves. Come to think of it the Cons aren't above anything at all! -

Sure, and I'm going to take Steve Janke, a Conservative blogger's word? How about a more credible source? No Liberals, NDP, Global TV, CTV TV, CBC TV, no CP?? Dam those liberal news outlets!!! -
Petition for the Queen to open 2010 Olympics
Fortunata replied to g_bambino's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think it would be fantastic, and perfectly fitting, if the Queen would open the Olympics. Of course, if something happened to her between now and then, I rescind this wish as I don't want "King" Charles. But maybe Prince William in that case. -
Devout Muslim Woman Denied French Citizenship
Fortunata replied to August1991's topic in Religion & Politics
It's not just Muslim women that (have to?) wear a particular costume and are expected to be subservient or adhere to a traditional way of life. Mennonite and Hutterite women do. They also don't integrate into the greater community, although, unlike France, Canadians are more welcoming. Now having said that, I agree with France denying entrance to any person or group that they consider undesirable. I personally would like to stop all Muslim immigration into this country. I'm all about assimilation rather than multiculturalism. -

So, capricorn, as one of the herd, what do you attribute the lessening crime rate to? Harper? -
A few things .... I don't hold insurgents, the Taliban and al Qaeda to our standards. I want to hold us to our standards. It's what makes us who we are and them what they are. It's as simple as that. I can't control what they do or who they are but I want my country to be what people fought and died for - not the low standards that other people think we should bend to. Little Omar has not been convicted of anything. What happened to innocent until proven (or in this case railroaded) guilty? You would expect proper legal procedures for yourself in a court of law, why should it be any different for anyone else? You go ahead and roll in the gutter a la al Qaeda and the Taliban but I don't want to do anything their way.

Tories tally $3B in funding on cross-country tour
Fortunata replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ah yes, the old right wing double standard. You know? Really? How do you know? Did jdobbin tell you this? Maybe you could enlighten us. It's hard to believe any politician nowadays. It's all pie in the sky, people with short memories and those who would justify anything their party does (or doesn't do). -
I don't think there are any liberal child protection kidnappers in Afghanistan, just kidnappers of the capitalist sort.

Fortunata replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Oh yeah, it's much better for the Conservatives to squander it than the Liberals. -
Edmonton Police Private After Hours Club
Fortunata replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Ok then, should it be illegal? -
Exactly. It was only a bad deal when the Liberals did it (as so many other things have turned out to be). Anything is ok when you are a Conservative.

Fortunata replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Didn't Harper criticize the Liberals for doing the exact same thing ... buying votes? One think you can surely count on with him is the predictable double standard. -
I don't think we'll ever find out. That sounds like Harper's m.o. Isn't that exactly what he did in committees and every day in Question Period? Wait... he even distributed procedures to all the Con MP's on how to how to do that very same type of thing didn't he?

I agree with you on all the points except the last one. Once you dip your toe in the smell you cannot claim morality only because you didn't go up to the ankle. -
Edmonton Police Private After Hours Club
Fortunata replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
I can't see what is wrong with the RCMP having their own private spot to drink in. It can't be too comfortable for them in a public place where people can identify them and perhaps target them because they are police. As long as they don't drink and drive what's the harm? -
I do vote but I won't vote for one party only because they aren't the "other" party. I won't waste my vote because the CPC label themselves Conservative but don't act like it esp. fiscally. Conversely I won't waste my vote on Liberals because they claim "liberalness". There is no one party that I agree with all their policies so it is a matter of going through and finding one that is closest to my beliefs. From what I see on here and out in the big world voters get hooked on labels (i.e. parties) and then put blinders on so they can't objectively look at all the good ideas of all parties and don't see all the bad in their own party of choice.
