The NDP has a problem......................
Stoker replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You, like eureka , can also provide some sources that climate change (if it's true or not), is the fault of man and not somethig that the Earth does on it's own every few hundred years and that this cycle that we are in today is going to destroy the world's economy in the coming decades. Remember though, opinions don't count, we want facts......... -

eureka, thats just it, I don't claim to know vast sums of knowledge in the mater relating to climate change........thats why I ask you for a source to back up your claims. Now your reluctance lends be me to beleive that you also don't know what your talking about. Now if you wish to continue this topic, I suggest you start a new thread (so as not to hijack this one further) and provide proof to your claims. -
Man should go back to the moon soon.
Stoker replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Big Blue, I tend to agree with you, in that exploration will lead to progress for mankind, but as of now we have more prorites back here on earth. With that said, I've no doubt in my mind that as the Bamboo curtain solidifies in the coming decades, we will see Chinese and American nationlism spark another space race. We can't have the ChiComms make it to the Red planet first now can we -

How do you know that? Also, are people that don't share your views in all things beholden to economic interests? Are they all "contrarians" and seeking to become famous? Couldn't all this said about people that share your views? So " real scientists" can not be wrong? Yes, and If I put on a couple of grams of weight, does that mean I will become morbidly obese? As for the causes, can you prove it? (It's a rhetorical question, since you can't prove it, because your "real scientists" have not) Head for the hills Prove it. I've provided links that state that some "real scientists" due infact disagree. How many nations have ratified it? Does Kerry support it? And if so, what makes you think he will follow through? So those that disagree with you should be put to death? Even though you provide no real proof, you want people to put their faith into your hands..........it's good to see that Ingsoc is still practiced today...and in of all places a thread that pretains to the N-D-P. Big Brother, and Mother Nature are watching you -

Error on the side of caution? Why thats what I'm doing.........I'd rather not risk our economy for a problem (climate change) that may or may not pose a threat to us. So you just use your SUV for grocery shopping Why don't you error on the side of caution and go grocery shopping via the bus? -

And how was their Consensus measured? Did businessweek commission a poll amongest the worlds scientific community? Also, define "growing". And has it been proven that mankind is the cause of climate change? Did we not have droughts before? What about the ice age? -

Very convincing Skeptics? Peers? Are you suggesting that there is a consensus among scientists that global warming is a threat? I'd very much like you to prove that... With that said, whether or not global warming is a myth or a truth, I'd still like to see your source that states the world economy will collapse in the next several decades due to climate change. -
Don't forget to add dangerous work also!!!

You claim that we are in the "end of days" and that the apocalypse is near, but yet you provide no proof. If I stated that Jack Layton was form Mars and came here to eat are children, I'm sure most would like to see some proof to such a wild and crazy claim. Wouldn't you? -

US Election Predictions
Stoker replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I'm going for Bush and I think he will win.......but alot could happen in the next week.......I thought Harper was going to be our Prime Minister a few days before our election......... I'll stick with Bush. Also, I've read and saw alot of politacal pundits on tv that are predicting a dramatic swing, in that this election won't be as close as the last.......just depends on which way it swings Who are you puting your money on August? -
If the question is if I'm in favor of genocide, of course not, I'm also opposed to abortion. So since I'm opposed to abortion, are my human rights being violated? Same with same sex marriage. High taxes. Big government etc. Did the majority know of Hilter's plans? I think the murder of the jews was wrong, did the majority of German think it was right? Did the majority of Germans even know about it? So if I protest same sex marriage, my rights are being violated? When one lives in a democracy, the "reins" are handed over to elected indivuals. This is the choice of those that live within a democracy.

Who defines whats "OK" in that example? Who put in place the Charter and the Constitution? Who can change the Charter and the Constitution? Whats "right" and what "moral" is all in the eye of the "beholder". Most Democratcs voted for the Patriot act (including Kerry) also. With that said, as I've been saying since the start, the BC Liberals handed out the records, the Americans didn't activly seek them.
-
When did they use BC medical records? How would the criminal know who's hair was who's? With that said, I'm thinking more along the lines of Semen/blood samples....... If your government gives-up the records, knowing full well of the laws of the said states........who's fault is it that your records are being checked.....that is if they are. Do you have to "play" with a person's "sensitive area" to get sick? Where? I realize the threat posed by terrorism, and have backed that up with examples (9/11). You claim that the United States is killing human rights, but don't provide any proof. For what reason? If it was to alert of the public of a terror suspect sure..........but if it's the records of some 70 year old women that lives in Richmond BC, why would they? Can you provide the wide spread proof of this? Who's being suppressed? Perhaps a more apt question would be for you to define supressed............ The 3000 deaths prove you wrong..........There were wide spread deffiences in the American intellgence systems, added to laws that didn't allow total information sharing between the FBI and CIA........those laws have been changed with the Patriot act, so as to reflect the different world within which we live. Are you willing to guarantee that Canada will not be attacked in the future? But if you want to quibble, Germans sunk ships in the St Lawerence and a Japenese sub shelled a lighthouse not far from were I live. Who defines the morals in a democracy? Again, the province of British Columbia gave these records to American companies, well full aware that under the Patriot act the US government can access them. Who went to who? And has there been any proof, or even a tin-foil hat laden report that the United States government has even looked at the records? Again, who the fear mongerer
-
What "right" does any government have to pass laws/legislation? The people. The majority wish to be safe. The American people. The "moral legitimacy" can cut both ways, depends if you are in the majority or in the minority I guess......... The people that voted him or her into power.
-
Would adding an "er" to the end of "safe" still make it subjective? And whats that? Who's the one building strawmen wrt the Patriot act on BC's medical records? The example that you used, and the deaths that entailed from the said governments/groups in the before mentioned examples. Which ones do you want aswered, that I haven't? But for it to be an argument, perhaps you should also answer mine........
-
What does Iraq have to do with the Patriot act? Also, as I asked above, why is the onus on the Bush government instead of the BC Liberal party over these medical records?
-
How many Americans have died at the hand of OBL? How many Americans have died becasue of the Patriot act? Isn't democracy a bitch..... Perhaps you have an alternative to democracy that serves the intrests of all? Do you live in a bunker out in the woods? So are you saying that the deaths caused by 9/11 and SARS are on the hands of the American and Canadian government alone? Whats the road to heaven paved with? Would you prefer nothing to be done, for fear that something bad may happen? Do you long for a MAD MAX type world?
