Should NATO ban the use of depleted uranium?
Sir Bandelot replied to Machjo's topic in The Rest of the World
DU is a regulated hazardous substance, in both Canada and the US. It cannot be transported without a special permit from the nuclear regulatory agency. It cannot be handled without special training. DU is used as radiation shielding in some applications and must be encapsulated in thick acrylic or epoxy coating, to avoid shedding of dust granules. Where it is used, special tests need to be done to the installation to check that there is no contamination. These tests are to be done at least annually. It is not adviseable to even touch DU without wearing gloves. These rules are set out by our Canadian federal regulatory body. Given all that, it seems bizarre to me that DU can be used by the military to harden the tips of their bullets and shells. I read a report it was used on machine gun and rifle bullets in Iraq. These bullets are embedded in the walls of many buildings. It might be possible to find them with a geiger counter, but the dust and debris would be very hard to collect, and that's the stuff that kills. So it's no wonder that the Iraqi government is very upset about this. To ignore the threat of depositing this debris randomly all over the countryside in another country, while having such strict rules about it in our own seems quite hypocritical to me. But, there it is. -

Incorrect. Alpha particles are among the most deadly that there is, if ingested or inhaled. alpha radiation is the most destructive form of ionizing radiation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_particle#Biological_effects -
Obama mad at General McChrystal
Sir Bandelot replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It sounds to me like he wanted this to happen. He forced Obama to accept his resignation. Maybe he was tired of fighting a losing strategy and watching more US/ Coalition troops get sent home in a casket. They tried the "kill everything that moves" technique which did not succeed. Now they are attempting to do as much as possible to protect civilians, for the final hand-over to Afghani security forces, but McCrystal is a killer, not a body-guard. And I think that's why he couldn't take it anymore. -
In this case I hope that Mr. Canada does win. Our bizarre government will not fund abortions for women in Africa but does fund gay pride parades, complete with anti-semitism. Down with these perverted, confused charlatans and rogues. At the very least, cover that shit up with a blanket...

Why I think Stephen Harper has lost my vote...

Welcome, brother, to the disabused, disenchanted, island of unwanted conservatives. -

Le Blanc has a better chance than the rest of them, but I suspect he simply doesn't have the influence in the party. It's all about power. Despite what happened, I think Paul Martin would put them all to bed. He's the only one who makes any goddamned sense anyway. -
This demonstrates that the taser is a dangerous device, and although the polce need to use such devices sometimes against dengerous persons, death is not necessary in cases like this. There should be additional trainng and resources implemented when an officer is issued a taser. Part of their training should include appropriate life saving measures, CPR, even cardiac resusitators might have to become standard equipment. Attacking the original poster for their poor language skills, or because of cultural misunderstanding is simply ignorant, but also quite typical in these forums. If anything, attack the idea not the person. If you can't attack the idea, you know...

Israeli Navy Raids Gaza Aid Flotilla, 10 Confirmed Dead
Sir Bandelot replied to JB Globe's topic in The Rest of the World
Why didn't Canada accept the jewish refugees in boats, like the ones on S.S. St. Louis? All this sounds like hand washing of the problem. "Well, they're not helping either, so why should we?" Meanwhile poor people can just starve, because of a bunch of thugs who ruined it for them in their own country, and a bunch of callous people who couldn't care less, everywhere else. -

Isn't he visiting Canada today? It would be interesting to hear what Harper has to say about this. -

Yeah, but if we follow your philosophy wouldn't we end up just like them? How would it be different. It seems to me that mistreating otherwise peaceful moderate mulsims only gives justification to the hate speech coming from those radical imams. We gain nothing in putting down the westernized muslims, only make them resent us and some of them will be driven right into the arms of the extremist nutters. -
Yes I do...

I was involved in a cancer research study once, in which we had to eat food based on the diet of a particular region in China, where they had very low incidence of colon cancer. The food was lots of rice and vegetables. A very small amount of meat once a day. About 5 years go I became a vegetarian, not 100% I eat a small amount of meat once in a while. But if good vegetarian food is available I always prefer to go for that!

Mosque going up in NYC building
Sir Bandelot replied to a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Would make a great skit, on a show like Saturday Night Live... "Hey, Muadib, any white folks in the store?" "No, Habib." "Alright then, Allahu Akbar!" (Burns poster of wtc). A white couple walks in... Habib quickly throws down the poster and stomps it out. Then turns to couple and politley asks, "Yes, how can I help you?" Yeah, they could have a lot of fun with that one. -

Yes indeed. Likewise let there be no muslim shops. No muslim businesses, no residence. a special squad should be formed out of loyal patriots who will inspect the ID of people who are walking around in the streets. Because, there's a chance that some of them could be muslims... and even if they are moderate muslims, not all muslims are moderate, so some who might go into a corner store where muslims work might get together and celebrate when no white people are around... -
Perhaps we could stop killing things entirely, and all become vegetarians. But then who will protect the rights of the carrot

Meanwhile Chicago demonstrates the method for effectively dealing with bullies in the hockey rink. Hammer their butts into the boards. From great distances, no less.
