  1. I'm interested in this concept ... more of a grassroots participatory democracy. We certainly have the means to do it now ... like this discussion board. I think it would be cool to have local/provincial/national discussion forums (and polls) linked to parliamentary and governance issues, so they can see what we really think and maybe even pay some attention, for a change. Problem is ... I suspect it would be perverted by the same old party hacks for propaganda purposes. Same goes for local 'teams'. There has to be a proper selection mechanism ... like for jury duty.
  2. And Canada should just join the US? They have a right to self-determination, and if we don't support their right, then we have no right either. slippery slope!
  3. Well, at least you got it right that time. Canadians might say we are the US's "closest" ally, but we wouldn't say "most important" as you claimed above. Also, we would not refer to ourselves as "America's" ally. We are part of America, numbnuts! You are not 'America'. You are the US of A. Get it? Got it? Good! So get over the 'we are America' crap, eh? You ain't! -edit (ain't all of it, that is.)
  4. Tell you what ... take Harper off our hands and we'll see what we can do about giving Iggy back too! ps ... scoop is Harper is looking for a new gig, because we won't make him dictator. enjoy!
  5. Does it pain you that you are an a-hole?
  6. ya right ... it's ALL just anti-semitism. (scuse me while I puke on your shoes.) ... 1300 ... 13 ... ya ... right! "Israel's response was disproportionate." So ... once again ... how many of the 12 killed by WP were children? women? elders? And how many were horribly maimed? (It's like explaining humanity to a post.) Keep in mind ... according to the IDF command, everyone in Gaza was a terrorist ... because they were still there. You don't have to defend the IDF by denying their war crimes. If there were no civilians in Gaza, just terrorists, then nothing Israel did was a war crime. At least that was their reasoning then ... and certainly that is the way they conducted the assault. Not sure how well it'll hold up in court, but Israel is never wrong ... right? Of course ... I guess it's possible that all those IDF soldiers were lying too. Is that what you are saying? The Israeli soldiers lied about the orders they were given? You have two possible positions ... the Gazans were all terrorists (thus deserved to die) or the Israeli soldiers are liars.
  7. Hmm ... you're making me think ... People who are (or were) average earners just don't have more to spend. The spending will have to be done by the wealthy, to pull us out of this! I think they'd better just keep quiet and buy and buy ... and pay and pay! It's the least they can do for the priviledge of getting rich off our labour!
  8. HEY! It's our lucky day! We don't have to listen to the idiot. I truly believe he should tell Fox news to take a hike! But he'll probably kiss their butts.
  9. It's explained in the post you didn't read.
  10. Ignorance is bliss, they say! So perhaps you missed this: "At first the specified action was to go into a house. We were supposed to go in with an armored personnel carrier called an Achzarit [literally, Cruel] to burst through the lower door, to start shooting inside and then ... I call this murder ... in effect, we were supposed to go up floor by floor, and any person we identified - we were supposed to shoot. I initially asked myself: Where is the logic in this? "From above they said it was permissible, because anyone who remained in the sector and inside Gaza City was in effect condemned, a terrorist, because they hadn't fled. I didn't really understand: On the one hand they don't really have anywhere to flee to, but on the other hand they're telling us they hadn't fled so it's their fault
  11. I think we want to get out of the business of spending millions judging people or their incomes, and just give everyone a livable income. Then those who want to work for more can do so.
  12. Yes, you can be as obtuse and ignorant as you wish. And we in turn can shout at you for being a prick. Free speech works both ways. Disrespecting soldiers dying in your war of aggression and oppression is about as low as it gets. Except for those who defend the disrespectful.
  13. Now ... let's see the data for the federal TORY deficit! Seems both parties can do it!
  14. They were there. Why are you avoiding reading the evidence?
  15. I expect that's true. My point was there is no use in denying it as the evidence exists. I'm curious why you weren't aware of it.
  16. Not of their own accord. That's why democracy is supposed to have checks and balances built in, but ours have been destroyed and our democracy has been perverted. Obviously we need to change the system to shake them up and remind them they work for us.
  17. A guaranteed annual income is an excellent idea! But $10,000 isn't enough. I'd say $at least 20,000 for everybody, so at least you can live on it if you live carefully. Then if you want to do more than spend your time watching your pennies, you can work for more. Think of all the money saved on bureaucrats and multi-million dollar software programs that we no longer need to verify incomes ... welfare, CPP, OAS, ODSP, disability ... millions are spent on people to verify income and track income every month. That's a lot of money saved if we no longer have to do 'means testing'. Probably enough to pay for the annual incomes.
  18. Why bother to jump into this topic now like a halfwit, with absolutely no information and your panties in a knot? Obviously weren't interested in following the events as they were happening. If you were, you would know about the WP. There's plenty of evidence with all the people who were burned by it.
  19. Seems you should read what the soldiers themselves had to say: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1072475.html
  20. The US is the only neighbour we share a border with. Won't you be ... won't you be ... more neighbourly than faux news!
  21. They're not imposed. They are just represented. As they are in the country. Big deal. So ... are you saying that democracy ... "rule by the people" is "impractical" because people might disagree with the 22% 'majority'? What principle of 'democracy' is that?
  22. Well exactly. And are we gonna fall for that crap? But strangely, there's a dearth of same in this thread ... very strange ... no real position taken at all ... no well reasoned arguments. The growing (and festering) gap is so blatant ... And the current economic fallout is, I believe, a loss of confidence in those who "think they're uniquely qualified" to be ultra rich ... on the labour of the other 95% of us. ... but then it's easy for me to sit back and criticize from the comfort of my (hard earned) pension. In fact, it's my job!
