Wow look at that! We agree on something. You agree with an apparent Chinese operative. ? Then you are also against the niqab ban? I'm a self-employed and functioning member of society with a worldview grounded in reality. Thankfully, most Canadians are too.

Is Russiophobia one of Trudeau's "Acceptable Views"?

That's what happens when one country invades another. Other nations get upset. Keep making excuses for Putin though. Tucker Carlson would be so proud of you. -
Woooooow. If we needed any more evidence of your utter lack of maturity and reasoning skills, here it is on full display. If you value religious freedom so much, then surely you're against Bill-21 in Quebec and the anti-niqab laws too, right?....RIGHT? I doubt it! People are free to practice their religions as they please. It's when folks try to promote religious politics where most people have an issue. Like it or not, Canada's a secular society. Canada will be fine. The lunatic fringe may be a write-off though. You guys can continue crying about how awful everything is, while the rest of us live our lives freely and happily. At this point I don't think there's any hope that common sense or reason can reach you. You're just going to continue ranting and raving in your desperate bid to cope with your unhappy reality.

You want to just sulk and rage like children. Tantrums are what you offer to Canadian political discourse. Woke-green totalitarian fascist blah blah blah. It's nothing but populist sloganeering and hyperbole. What we want is a CPC grounded in reality. We'd like to see an opposition party that isn't rooted in discontent, outdated religious tradition and retarded conspiracy theories. We're looking for a party that supports and listens to science and experts but, unlike the Liberals, not at all costs. There's no denying that Canada's Green Energy initiatives have been disastrous and that Trudeau/Biden have egg on their face over pipelines, but that doesn't mean climate change is a hoax. The vaccine mandates probably went too far and for too long, but that doesn't mean that COVID was a conspiracy either. There's an abyssal gap between Trudeau's disastrous leadership and what further-right elements of the CPC want to see - the 44% of the party's supporters that would prefer to see Donald Trump back in the White House. 56% of the rest of them would prefer Biden, despite his failings, and you can guarantee that most of the rest of Canada feels even more strongly about that. If Pierre Poilievre thinks that courting a polarizing 44% of a ~35% portion of the voting population is his path to leadership, good luck with that. The math isn't looking too hot. ?

Conservative Leadership September 10th

You obviously don't even know what the term means. I've never voted for the NDP in any election ever, so...good one. Unsurprising that you have nothing intelligent to offer the discussion. -

Honestly I doubt it. He'll certainly never admit it. These are what you figure the big voices of our time? Come on. Trudeau fucked up and his credibility is shot, but saying Canada is on its way to becoming "authoritarian" is silly. The Emergencies Act was a huge mistake and everyone should rightly reject Trudeau for that, but it does not signal the end of Canadian democracy. Beating Trudeau in the next election should be easy based on that alone...unless you embrace Trumpism which is what Pierre Poilievre is doing. The 46% of CPC supporters that think Trump should be the next US President is what's going to scare the rest of the electorate away, and those are the folks who Poilievre is courting, instead of the 54% who rightly see Orange Man as a walking catastrophe. Primary among them being Donald Trump and his supporters. -

Ovechkin is a Putin asslicker - the biggest one in the NHL. He deserves to be booed. The counter-point is Artemi Panarin, who's been a vocal critic of Putin for years. -

The biggest and most obvious is fiscal responsibility. A red tory like Charest or even Brown (to a much lesser degree) actually cares about reigning in deficits and wasteful public spending. Patrick Brown, for example, campaigned to dismantle Ontario's disastrous Green Energy Act, abolish Ontario's estate administration tax - both things the Liberals and NDP in the province were again. Nobody's asking you to change your values. I'd suggest that you realize other people's values might be very different and that insisting on having yours pandered to at the cost of choosing an unelectable Party leader is not wise. Yes...you really, really do. -

That's not right, at all. The term "unlawful combatant" isn't used anywhere in either the Hague or Geneva Conventions. The third Geneva Convention specifically states the following sorts of people are considered protected persons and would qualify as prisoners of war: 4.1.6 Inhabitants of a non-occupied territory, who on the approach of the enemy spontaneously take up arms to resist the invading forces, without having had time to form themselves into regular armed units, provided they carry arms openly and respect the laws and customs of war. in addition to irregular forces, militias and other arms-bearing resistances or insurgencies -

It seems like when your reasoning is questioned, you just sort of get flustered, lean into the expletives and make sweeping judgments about other people's character. Please, tell me more about how my generation thinks (whatever you figure that is) and about my moral convictions and how they're lacking (along with all of those awful Liberals). ? -

Maybe some are, but the cries of "discrimination" are overblown and they're coming from the same Putin boosters repeating the Kremlin propaganda they're pulling off of TG. No doubt. Joe blow Russian is the only one who can do anything about it. The oligarchs and Putin's other cronies are certainly not going to dismantle the corruption within the system they've used to get fabulously wealthy. Alex Ovechkin has long been one of the NHL's premiere Putin asslickers and his criticism for the war has been muted, at best. and not worth the breath he used to speak it. Look at someone like Artemi Panarin if you want to see real criticism from a Russian - something that took some actual courage. Ovechkin deserves all the boos he gets. If Russians go hungry, that's on Putin and the people who let him get away with his crimes. -

It's always a choice dude. I'm just not going to be a baby and not vote at all if I don't like any of the candidates. I'll put on on my big-boy pants, make an adult decision based on the leaders, candidates and their platforms and choose the one that I find the least repulsive. Give me someone from the CPC aside from Pierre Polievre (or Leslyn Lewis) and they'll almost certainly have my vote. Oh please. Spare us your self-righteous ignorance. My morals are better than your morals...blah blah blah. -

Russian Canadians. My biggest client is a 47 year old woman born and raised in Russia (she fled). I think she's the bee's knees and most people who meet her agree. She's not feeling any hate anywhere. As for "contempt" for actual Russians, it's not even that. It's contempt for and rejection of Putin's Russia. People around the world are cheering for and worried about Marina Ovsyannikova, who held up a sign protesting the war in Ukraine during a live broadcast of Russia's state-run news. She's now disappeared and nobody knows where she is. If shunning Russians for invading Ukraine is racist or discriminatory, what do you call invading a sovereign nation and killing its people? Outside of actively engaging in the conflict, the only way the west can help Ukraine is isolating its aggressors as they have been. -

First off, Pierre Poilievre has been vocally against abortion and gay marriage in the past. That he's apparently changed his mind on these issues is noted, but then he also says he'd allow free votes on these issues from his caucus. That's not good enough. Allowing what effectively represents a challenge on these fundamental rights is enough to scare off gay people and plenty of women, regardless of how likely they are to succeed. Don't take my word for it though. Ask some gay people how they feel. Is that why Alberta has been a wasteland for the Liberals since Pierre TRudeau? That's because you view them as "completely opposite" (your words, not mine). Convincing you is irrelevant. You're going to vote Conservative no matter who the leader is, and from the sounds of it you've never voted anything else. What matters is how the undecided voter feels, and too bad so sorry, those undecided voters are centrists and they're not going to be impressed with Preston Manning 2.0. Believe it or not, you can disapprove of Justin and still vote for him if you think the alternative is worse. You're right that you can't fix stupid, so if the CPC thinks that picking a controversial, divisive and inflammatory leader is the best way to build bridges to the centre, you're absolutely right. They'll be getting what they deserve. -

Not a fact at all. Zelensky and Ukraine wanted to join NATO. That's it, and it's a very different thing. When the Russian army invaded. What exactly is remarkable about this? Yes, exactly. When a foreign army invades your soil, you shoot at them. I'm not sure why you think capitalizing the word FACT after saying something stupid adds to your argument. -

The alternatives are not the same. It's easy to highlight differences. Your problem is that you're not happy with anything but the complete opposite of the Liberals. and immature and silly attitude, considering most people don't share your values. This is like taking your ball and going home because people won't play exactly how you want. It's pure identity politics and it's utterly pointless, stubborn denial. -

No. Once Ukraine signs the dotted line, it is no longer Russia's bitch. That you don't understand how stupid this analogy is worries me. If the United States was a total shithole where over half its population lived in crushing poverty, if it censored all of its news, if its government murdered and imprisoned its critics, if it was not a democracy and if it was threatening to annex Canada's provinces and territories, maybe then you could suggest a comparison like this. -

The world was much worse off after Trump. World leaders didn't respect him. They feared his erratic behavior, his unhinged speeches and his threats. The division that Trump sowed with not only in the USA but also among his allies is one of the key reasons that Putin was emboldened to attack. Trump set trust in the USA back decades and Putin saw division (and therefore weakness) in NATO. Because Trump spitefully decided to cancel the last one for no good reason. China has been looming over Taiwan for as long as I've been alive. The Ukraine war, yeah - the one that Trump's buddy Putin started. I'd argue the freedom convoy had absolutely nothing to do with it, considering how little support they had. Health trends led to the mandates being lifted. -

I was saying exactly that on Friday to a friend at hockey. With Trudeau as PM I was terrified when Trump was elected. I was not sure he had the good sense to keep his mouth shut and not try to score cheap political points poking that big orange pig. Surprisingly, he mostly did aside from a few gaffes. Doug Ford was another welcome surprise. At the start of COVID he was the most articulate and most forthcoming of pretty much all of Canada's federal and provincial leaders. The messaging got confusing as time went on but he did a better job than Trudeau I would say overall. Listening to people smarter than you is type of intelligence in itself.
