I have to say I gained brand-new respect for the BQ and Julles in particular. Always thought of them as not belonging in a Federal government - I have to admit I was wrong. With spineless liberals we owe BQ our freedom from Harper's dictature. Let's hope they will be there as long as necessary to keep him and the likes of him in check. My thanks also go to Danny Williams - his ABC campaign made Cons LOSE the 3 ridings they had there Good job! Although I'm not fond of exessive agressiveness I have to say Layton's brazen attacks have both gained NDP seats (at the Liberal's expense) and kept the Conservatives from grabbing those seats. I'm happy to see that even with Liberals beheaded the majority of Canada kept true to our country's ideals.

Incrementalism? Why Harper is a loser tonight

Do you mean they learned how to transform themselves into a Socialist state? They're surely not leading the pack... -
Harper needs to step down
PoliticalCitizen replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper called this election to satisfy his ego's desire to rule without giving a shit about any other parties (or anyone in his party for that matter). I'm sure he's employing a team of very skilled strategists as Conservatives winning 19 ridings with only 1.1% increase in popular vote is quite remarkable. But they failed, and wasted our time and money on an unnecessary election. LOWEST IN HISTORY voter turnout speaks for itself. That proves Harper cannot really win the race even against a dead dog. Another good indicator is that AS USUAL they got 0 ridings in the big cities. All this election did is speed up the demise of Dion. Hopefully his replacement will show Harper his rightful place - barking at a Liberal majority from the opposition seat. -

Why don't we hold monthly elections? How about weekly? Let's see what the voter turnout will be then... "Slavic peasants" have taught the world a 70-year lesson. It may not be the last one -

You have a point. But honestly, if these females cannot stand for their own choice in their own house they should seek help. -

I never said it was a problem in Canada, but in US - we've lived 8 years of wars and aggression because of the fraudulent vote count. -

Isn't it time to slow down immigration?

I was saying the same for the longest time... -
I guess I was a bit too optimistic. I'm sure with a proper electoral system where people are not forced to vote "strategically" but actually go with their heart the number would have been a lot higher.

Huh? Who would have called it 6 months ago? -
Now that our electoral system has failed almost a million voters (the ones that actually cared to vote in this Harper's ego-driven election), is it safe to say it's garbage?

I don't care about him being a loser. I care about him wasting my money. MJ shouldn't have allowed him to call an election. Useless puppet... Where's the power of the Queen when you need it? -

Getting 10% (or more) of the popular vote would be great as the Green Party would get 60% of the money spent in the campaign back from Elections Canada. Helping defeat the Conservatives in some ridings would be even better. It's not just about the money for the Greens -

You are correct, thanks for the quote "May said she only envisions Green supporters switching their votes in tight races, most of them in Central Canada. "It would be maybe 20 per cent of ridings in the country where that's even a factor, and mostly in Ontario," she said from Stellarton, N.S. That's about 60 of the 308 seats in the House of Commons. May said she can't be specific about where the seats are, although three Nobel Prize-winning climate change scientists are urging Green voters to defeat Conservatives in 50 close Ontario seats that could decide the election." She's doing what's best for the environment. Hasn't NDP done the same to help defeat Conservatives in the past? -
Well the popular support more than doubled. I guess we'll see soon enough, he-he

There are a lot of us fortunate ones who live in securely Liberal ridings. We are free to vote whomever we please without the "strategic" considerations

So what prevents a paper ballot from being forged?
