CPP/OAP vs US Social Security
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Norway is a country of 6 million, like Quebec. Norway has a sovereign fund of about US 2 trillion dollars. Quebec has a sovereign fund (la Caisse) with about US 500 billion. ==== These funds are claims, (paper) IOUs, on real resources. Are Norwegians really rich? -
CPP/OAP vs US Social Security
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Please understand two points: 1. The US pension system is more generous than our RRQ/OAS. 2. Our RRQ/Norwegian system is based on US paper. -
Inserts I was recently watching a documentary.

BeaverFever, Thank you. You made my point. -
I disagree. In the past, we received far more. Canada has lots of space. We Canadians can receive 400,000 or about 1% of our current population. ---- In the 1890s. OTOH, we accepted "Ukrainians" (Galicians, Ruthenians, Slovaks, Poles etc) while sending French-Canadians south. Google: Clifford Sifton ==== At issue is how we bring these people into our Canadian world.

Herbie, you miss my point. IME, many Asians do not understand sarcasm. They rarely if ever understand irony. ===== But we Europeans (Westerners) use knives to eat.

Exit Polls -2024 Style
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Robosmith - you're an AI whatever. ===== Knock, knock. -
We are getting data on how many ballots have been submitted by hand, in person (or received by mail) according to registration. Is there any data on choice after exit? Post hand-in, post mail-in? Aside from registration, how have these people voted? ===== Side Note: As a Canadian, this American "registration" is truly weird.

The speech later became known as "The New Frontier." In his remarks, then Senator Kennedy famously states, "The New Frontier of which I speak is not a set of promises-- it is a set of challenges. It sums up not what I intend to offer the American people, but what I intend to ask of them." https://www.jfklibrary.org/learn/about-jfk/historic-speeches/acceptance-of-democratic-nomination-for-president This link needs subtitles.

Disagree. Some people eat food with fingers (India) or with sticks (China). We in the West require a knife.

Is there any way left for Kamala to win?

Disagree. Strongly. ===== Rather, you Americans are now voting the way that we Canadians submit our census forms. -
US Federal VAT -Federal Consumption Tax
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Harris and the Democrats will never do such things. Trump is the kind of guy who thinks outside the box. ====== The US has government debt (federal/state/local) over 150% of GDP and rising. US governments are borrowing more than GDP is rising. In the US, the government debt ratio to GDP is rising. This is not sustainable. US governments are a Ponzi scheme. === US governments (federal, state) must cut spending or raise taxes. -

Rebound, Pelosi? Clueless. You have no idea how parliamentary democracy works. -

https://www.ian-leslie.com/p/why-margaret-thatcher-didnt-jump Pierre Trudeau was born in 1919. Margaret Thatcher in 1925. ===== Kamala Harris was born in 1964 - after the wars.
