Read the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples report. -
So you are lying. No one was denied police service. No one was told the police would not come.

Panem et circenses, et pontes corruunt
charter.rights replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Regardless. A province that fails to uphold the public good is not a democracy, but a oligarchy. You really should move. If you stay you have nothing to complain about unless you are willing to stand protest for your democratic right to be protected against the decay of the infrastructure. I'm sure Florida however, could do without all the Speedos.... -

The most practical thing for you is to move out of Quebec. That is what a democracy allows you to do. -
Consititional Rights able to be removed? WTF
charter.rights replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am very aware of the term "property". That is my point. Any protection of property comes through the law itself i.e. legal rights and not through the Charter. -

Try again amateur. "1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society. " Bill 203 prescribes a reasonable limit in that the police can seize your vehicle when they think you are driving recklessly. There are also many other laws that permit the police to take your property and THEN apply for a court order confirming it. There are no property rights in the Charter and therefore nothing to protect. -

Those are legal rights, not Charter rights. And yes they can take your property: Bill 203 "Police can issue an immediate seven-day driver’s licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment for street racing, participating in a driving contest or stunt driving." There are lots of laws like this where police can seize your assets...try setting up a grow-op in your house.... -

To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men. Abraham Lincoln I think I know what side of yellow you sit on. -
The first action of corrupt governments is to take control of the media. Sounds about right in this case...

Ontario Clean Energy Benefit
charter.rights replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Had Harris and Eves used their resources to pay down the OPG debt, and to eliminate the subsidy back then we would have seen the true cost of hydro. The fact is they hid the deficits and fudged the books to make it look like they weren't spending wildly. McGuinty is simply making us pay for the use of electricity at the real cost. Maybe you should complain about Bell Canada over charging and see if McGuinty really cares. -
Whites to Attain Minority Status?

Because they are not a minority of Canada and hold a different relationship with us than immigrants. -

Whites to Attain Minority Status?
charter.rights replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Do you have personal experience? We are talking about Canada / North America. The fact is that we have been a white-male dominated society for centuries. It is about time the white males take a seat across from other people equally and equitably. According to the law in order to maintain a free society, special measures may be taken to create programs or employment opportunities aimed at reducing that male dominance. It you feel slighted by those programs and opportunities just chalk it up to all the advantages you have had up until now. You are no more deserving of status in society than the washer woman of colour that works for a hotel chain. -

Don't be so dense. (another re-Lictard shows his face) White people are not subjected to genocide. They have traditionally been the instigators of genocide in Colonial states. You have confused the two. -
He is likely just a reinvented ML poster who has been beaten down before. I would suggest he is just another member of the Lictardians.

Burt and Earnie are being forced into gay marriage?

True. But there is curiosity about other kids with 2 daddys. Ernie and Bert might be a good place to start promoting tolerance and acceptance in spite of all those do-gooder right wings types brainwashing their children to hate liberals. -

We don't have property rights under the Charter. Therefore there is nothing to protect. However, we do have legal rights which may or may not apply depending on the circumstance. -

That isn't how I understand it. Right now the Canadian dollar is around par with the US dollar. If a widget costs $2CD then it is also $2USD. However, when the Canadian dollar was below parity our $2 widget actually only cost Americans about $1.50 USD. When our dollar rises above parity then the reverse is true - our $2 widget now costs them $2.12 each. If an Asian manufacturer sells widgets for around $1.50 US it makes a strong case for American retailers to switch to off shore suppliers. The rise in the Canadian dollar hurts Canadian exports to the US, our primary trading partner. Thus to remain competitive Canadian manufacturers have to keep their cost low when the Canadian dollar rises to parity and above. -

Not quite. "1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society." First of all limits must be reasonable and the Court must be able to justify the limits as being necessary to the security of the public. Is a limit of preventing protesting reasonable and is it necessary to protect public security is the question that must be answered. Perhaps, but in all cases the Courts cannot just limit freedoms without being able to demonstrate that the limit is necessary. I forgot to add....that there are many occasions on appeal where the Court finds that limits are unreasonable or cannot be justified. If this guy incited a riot then perhaps, but if he was just one of many who jumped into a mob mentality then I believe the court has to go much further in proving that restricting his freedom is necessary. -
What does a representative democracy mean to you?
charter.rights replied to CitizenX's topic in Political Philosophy
It would just mean the same corruption in a different form. The Reform/Alliance/Conservatives promise a reform of the senate. Instead, the reform came in the form of Harper stacking the senate to allow more of his legislation through unscathed. It doesn't reinforce democracy. It merely reinforces the same kinds of corruption of government that have existed for decades. -
So what. One guys expressing his opinion - no matter how vile - is not cause for censorship. If you are offended by threads like this then take your offensive attitude home with you and cry in your own cornflakes.
