  1. From "The Prophet", Kahlil Gibran On Reason "Your soul is oftentimes a battlefield, upon which your reason and your judgment wage war against your passion and your appetite." "For reason, ruling alone, is a force confining; and passion, unattended, is a flame that burns to its own destruction." "Among the hills, when you sit in the cool shade of the white poplars, sharing the peace and serenity of distant fields and meadows -- then let your heart say in silence, "God rests in reason." And when the storm comes, and the mighty wind shakes the forest, and thunder and lightning proclaim the majesty of the sky -- then let your heart say in awe, "God moves in passion." And since you are a breath in God's sphere, and a leaf in God's forest, you too should rest in reason and move in passion." On Religion (Faith) "Who can separate his faith from his actions, or his belief from his occupations?" "And he who defines his conduct by ethics imprisons his song-bird in a cage." "And if you would know God be not therefore a solver of riddles. Rather look about you and you shall see Him playing with your children. And look into space; you shall see Him walking in the cloud, outstretching His arms in the lightning and descending in rain. You shall see Him smiling in flowers, then rising and waving His hands in trees."
  2. He had nothing to do with directing the police in Caledonia. The OPP were in charge of policing operations. You have no ethics or responsibility! If you did the truth would not be so elusive.
  3. That's the way Peter. You go girl and try to fix that intolerance by slapping it with more intolerance!
  4. Bob doesn't let the facts get in the way of his opinion.
  5. TH is full of it. Toronto Star: Ford support plummeting, poll suggests From the article it is clear that even a number of his remaining supporters disapprove of his actions.

  7. I suspect all the funding for the Liberal platform comes from the winfall they received with the move to the HST. There is lots of money to reduce the cost of government just as they are promising, as well a lowering the tuition. That is a good as a done deal...
  8. Yes. Like Palestinians share in your greed democracy.
  9. So now you contradict yourself. You are now saying it isn't a sure thing that Hudak will win. As far as fighting for democratic freedoms, it is all hogwash. What they were fighting for really is nothing more than global greed. If they were truly fighting for our freedoms then by the end of each war we should have been just a little more free, and a little more democratic. However the result has been the opposite. With each war and conflict, many more of our freedoms are usurped in the delusional fears of security and our government and societies have been progressively less democratic with every election. If you want democracy then you should look to the protesters who argue for their rights, or call out government on their wrong-doing. All your voting does is endorse the corruption, the support for corporate greed and the washing away of our democratic rights. Those in the system are incapable of fixing the system because they ARE the problem. So go ahead and support Harris Hudak. It won't make a bit of difference to your freedoms or the death of your Grand Daddy. They all fought and died in vain.
  10. If you believe that, they you must also agree that the Conservatives are anti-education too. Since the Teachers union hasn't complain about an party, or made any endorsements. I guess if the shoe fits.... or it quacks like a duck... the the Conservatives are truly anti-education.
  11. Ignore the man behind the curtain. He is all talk and no substance like a lot of non-thinking right wing nuts.
  12. So why vote?
  13. He is Hudak's key adviser. Haven't you noticed his "Change for a Better Future" platform is almost identical to Harris' "Common Sense Revolution".
  14. Even after pharmaceuticals are approved for use, there will be some people experiencing side effects. The science behind noise pollution is still evolving. However, all the concerns are anecdotal so far, and there are no medical studies or confirmation that the illnesses were caused by the wind turbine effects. There is no need for panic. Back in the 80's I worked for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation as a UFFI Consultant. I measured houses for formaldehyde and other UFFI off gases and visited more than 1000 houses in a 3 1/2 year period. The concern was that UFFI was a health hazard and society had gone mad worrying about it. I was one of about 250 such consultants hired by CMHC during that program. Out of the 1000 homes (from Kingston to Toronto to Owen Sound to North Bay and all points in between) only about 10 tested above acceptable levels where people complained about itchy eyes, chronic cough or headaches. Out of those 10 we traced about 6 to environmental formaldehyde, such as a farmer spreading manure on the field next door during testing, to the installation of new carpet or the purchase of new furniture, to excessive cigarette smoking during the week of testing. The 4 that were confirmed to have high levels caused by the UFFI had some medical effect to the homeowners health but only 1 was severe enough for them to seek medical attention. The net result of those tests is that the rate of effect experienced by homeowners was less than those allergic to penicillin or rag weed. And those that had an allergy to formaldehyde also had other allergies and were prone to getting sick more often. At the end of the day the panic was blown out of proportion and people spent lots of money removing a product that was otherwise safe, inexpensive and effective...when installed correctly (which is another story). The greatest opponent of UFFI by the way was Fibreglass Canada who used every opportunity in their marketing and in the lobbying of government to condemn UFFI. Right now we have to wait for the science of measuring noise pollution to become more accurate. The anecdotal reports have not been verified and there is no need for panic. Wind and solar energy is a green alternative for producing electricity that will become pivotal as the nuclear stations start to close. We can't afford to shut it down because a few people might be sensitive to it. Buying them out seemed like a viable alternative.
  15. All the parts for an amplifier or a radio can be purchased on-line in about 5 minutes. Radio Shack is a dead duck and The Source is on its way to redundancy.
  16. No one is advocating that the Natives are always right, least of all me. However, when you do not stick to the facts and instead resort to blathering rumour and delusion then I chime in. If you find me responding to you so often it is because you are the worse offender of factless propaganda.
  17. The people in Eastern Ontario have endured far worse - between ice storms, mass black-outs, blocked 401 and bridges - and we don't hear them complaining.
  18. Talk about fallacy arguments...geez.... 1. There were NO riots in Caledonia. There was a police action that was repelled without much resistance by an overwhelming number of residents showing up after the failed injunction raid. 2. McHale showed up with racist invective on discussion boards and media forums just about the day after that failed raid. He organized and enticed the white supremacists long before he ever made a physical presence in Caledonia. That is his tactic. 3. The Stirling Woods subdivision reclamation where Sam Gualtieri was injured was a different subdivision and a different protest. While it demonstrate an escalation of the Six Nations protest, a couple of protesters were charged and only 2 convicted of assault for their part. That is hardly indicative of the Caledonia protest and was a situation that could have been avoided had Sam Gualtieri actually complied with the law to vacate the subdivision. 4. McHale became and still is an instigator of hate and lawlessness. The OPP had his number and so did Six Nation protesters. He singled himself out the minute he embedded himself and his racist friends into the dispute. The reality is that he has never had any standing in the dispute. He lied and he deliberately misled people into believing he was a rights savior and a religious man. Both are complete lies. Finally, you really need to wak up WB. You have had your head buried in your haas for so long that you are actually starting to think all those delusions and fears you have been telling yourself are real. They aren't. And like McHale your opinion and fabrications hold no standing in the discussion. When you start being factual, then maybe we can talk some more.
  19. Of course the questions are leading and presenting a fallacy argument.... The responsibility of the Police in a civil society is first and foremost to keep the peace. Essentially that is the purpose of laws through protections they offer against harm against the person, property or public good. The law is an ass, that carries the burden of ensuring that any law created or exercise has as its basis one of the basic principles of keeping the peace. Six Nations has a valid dispute and under the law exercise their right of proprietary estoppel to stop development on their land. Police did their job, by first keeping the likes of Gary McHale and his white supremacist buddies from creating riots and violent conflict. In many cases the OPP had to face the Clownadonians to do this. In other cases many charges were laid and the courts found either the accused were not guilty or their acts were not violent. Those are the facts.
  20. There was no "gag order" and RuralWatcher is running afraid over the top. He admittedly knows little about wind turbines or their effects and is simply replacing an ill-informed opinion for the facts. The fact is that wind turbine effects have been studied in Ontario for the last 10 years and there is little evidence of any adverse health effects. I have no doubt that their presence is felt by some (based on anecdotal evidence) but the mental anguish that some like RuralWatcher experience is entirely in their own heads.
  21. It isn't McGuinty or the Liberal government that allows that anymore than Hudak will be able to do anything about it. It is the law under the Green Energy Act and the setbacks were compiled from extensive studies on noise and effect of wind turbines. You could just as easily have you neighbour built a mega pig farm, or 1,000,000 plus chicken farm within 300m of your house and you not only is there no requirement for consultation, but there is nothing you can do about it either even if you complained.
  22. He wasn't taking his medication. If as much money was to be put in to mental health treatment as in Harper's Mega-jails and mandatory sentencing initiatives he wouldn't have been on the street to abduct the boy.
  23. It merely depends on whose side you are on and whether or not freedom has a price. Obviously, you would be unwilling to pay the price for your own freedom.
  24. Boy are you ever stuck in denial. The clause was put there so that the dominant white males could not undermine rights for their own pleasure. It was put there because in the past despite treaties and agreements, and despite the protections provided under the Royal Proclamation 1763 we largely ignored Aboriginal rights. Even the courts denied those rights. The clause makes it absolutely clear that the promises of the Crown to Aboriginal people and the agreements with them stand above all else. That the rights recognized from before Confederation are the Supreme law today and that the Charter cannot abrogate or derogate from those rights in trying to find a balance with other parts of the Charter. In other words, "Aboriginal rights and freedoms not affected by Charter", just as the subtitle suggests.
