Wake Up Call For Canadian Democracy
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'll take the Canadian citizens over the so-called political experts, with their vested interests any day. Canadians do NOT want majority government. It is amazin' how conservative some people all, so resistant to change, particularly here at Mapleleafweb. -
Wake Up Call For Canadian Democracy
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
caesar....that's a pretty pessimistic outlook don't you think! Check out the Irish system for a clearer understanding of what the Canadian people are proposing, as opposed to to our rich and powerful elites' idea of maintaining the stautus quo, so the rich and powerful remain rich and powerful. B.C. voters to choose electoral system next May I have confidence in Jane and Joe Canadian citizens. This is not mob rule when someone has been bludgeoned to death and the howling idiots want the perpetrator's head cut off even before there is a trail. This BC Citizen's Assembly has been deliberating for some time now. -
B.C. group advocates new way to elect officials Finally Canadian citizens are being given an opportunity to speak out on the future of Canadian democracy, rather than the political parties, and special interest groups. Don't you all find it more than a little surprising that Jane and Joe Citizens' ideas for protecting or having a TRUE DEMOCRACY clash so strongly with the powerful bullies in our Canadian society, have very little in common with the politicians, political parties and the powers elites that have been running our country since Confederation? I say to Canadians everywhere let's take our country back from these charletans that have stolen our democratic rights, these people who have usurpted our democracy. As they say in baseball, time to throw the bums out!!!

Bible Belt Is There When You Need It

WTF??? -
So Sheila Copps is now revealing to all Canadians what a lot of us suspected about PM Martin all along. That he is another one of those deceiving right wing politicians that has never had the honesty to tell Canadians that he what he really wanted was to gut our social safety network, and send Canadian troops to Iraq. And this is the crux of the problem for Harper. Canadians will never vote for him while they have another right winger in Paul Martin as PM unless Martin can be dragged into this Adscam mess or another scandal. Sad that the right has to lie to get elected because they would never get elected if the citizens knew their real agenda ahead of time. And yet they kept talking 'bout morals and principles.

Copps: Martin wanted to scrap Canada Health Act Sheila's book should prove to be a hoot. Gee it looks like PM Martin is goin' to be right up there with lyin' Brian.

Final word “I don’t mind being a symbol but I don’t want to become a monument. There are monuments all over the Parliament Buildings and I’ve seen what the pigeons do to them.” — Tommy Douglas Leader of Canada’s NDP 1961-1971

Surrey Panorama Ridge BC By-Election
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Yo! someone looking for a poll. A poll released last week by the B.C. Federation of Labour puts Jagrup Brar and the New Democratic Party at 44 percent, Mary Polak and the Liberals at 41.5 percent and Adriane Carr and the Green Party at 13.8 percent. Good ole Greens, you can count on them to help keep the the most environmentally destructive political party in the province in power. A bigger buinch of morons I don't think I have met anywhere. The Liberals are pulling out all the stops to win this by-election next week including lowering the sales tax which they had raised. Campbell knows he is done like dinner if they lose this one. -
If you are so worried about the Danes taking your friggin' bow and arrow and go North and get them yourself. It is always easy to send others to do your dirty work isn't it?

New BC Drunk Driving Bill
maplesyrup replied to Newfie Canadian's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Campbell fined $913 for drunk-driving charge No kidding Campbell was not around for the photo-op for the new BC illegal drinking legislation. Are these guys brain-dead? Why in the world would they revive this issue front and centre, back into the limelight, with less than a year to go, until the next election? Anyways Campbell has moved on to bigger and better things if youy get my drift! He's leaving the illegal drugs scene for the Liberal executive assistants. -
Ralph Klein with his drunken outbursts against the poor is right up there with Lyin' Brian Mulroney and Gordo "DUI" Campbell, competing for the title of most despised politician in Canada. And we have all been impressed with his magical abilities, his global savoir faire in solving the blocade of beef from Alberta in the US. Truly remarkable feats Klein has performed. NOT! The big slaughterhouse owners like him though. Keeping him around gives Martin credibility and provides our PM with a good punching bag!

Reducing taxes has been the right wing mantra ever since Reagan took power in 1976. This faulty logic is supported by organizations in Canada like the Fraser Institute, the Conservative party, the Green party, and the right wing of the Liberal party. There is not a shrewd of unbiased research available anywhere that can show lower taxes are good for society. It is another one of those capitalist's myths, similar to the one being perpetuated that Reagan ended communism. Anyone heard of a fellow named Gorbachov?

Star Wars heading to our House of Commons for a vote. This should be a real hoot as all the Carroll Parishes of the Canadian world will be united. PM okays missile vote in House

Oh poor baby! And if it had been translated into French, Quebeckers would have rejected it because the idea came from English Canada. The old separatist ploy. Catch 22 anyone!

Harper's career as leader of the Cons is all but over. Siding up to the Bloc in his desperate but failed attempt to grab power has opened him ujp to ridicule, the deathnail for any politician. He is on a death watch now!

Who is Hal Anderson and what kind of a show does he have?

It is nice to see the other mainstream political parties come to their senses, and learn from the Layton New Democrats no car-crash approach to this minority government and no confidence votes.

Sunday Shopping: An Idea Whose Time Is Past
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Canada's economy could easily survive a no Sunday shopping policy across our land. It actually might even be good for business as employees would end up being more relaxed resulting in more productivity when they are at work. -
I think the overriding factor that is causing friction about UIC is the huge surplus has been built up. This surplus somehow should be given to the employees in some way, shape, or form, either in reduced premiums or a one shot payout to Canadian workers.

Greatest Canadian list pared down Truly an amazin' list, all 50 are listed here. CBC is going to have a hour-long show starting tonight, I gather a countdown to eventually picking a final winner. Do you trhink Trudeau will be the eventual winner or will it be the founder of Medicare, T C Douglas?

pff.....and more power to you for having the gumption to get up and go to where the work is, and you should benefit accordingly. Not everyone has that drive though. When one has car insurance and has had a good driving record there are discounts awarded to such drivers at least via governemnt-run ICBC in BC. Perhaps UIC should find a formula to support people who don't need to use the UIC fund as much as others do. There should always be some kind of a financial incentive to not use it.

CBC series reveals Top 10 in countdown to who is the Greatest Canadian All of a sudden Canadian's reasoning abilities have gone up substantially in my estimation. what a truly remarkable and impressive list, although i would have liked to see Louis Riel on the list as well. Oh well, some day, and maybe Matthew Coon Come. Not quite sure what Don Cherry is doing there though

Thousands protest Iraq war in London How mujch longer do we have to endure this illegal war started by a fraudulantly sick biased us supreme court appointed president and his sychophant buddies in England and Australia? La Presse was involved in an international polling process concerning the upcoming us presidentail election and there were only two countries, russia and israel, the other world war mongers outside of the US that supported bush being relected. The entire rest of the world wants him out. What does that tell you?
