  1. Better late than never, or on the other hand not It sure seems like Harper is nailing the casket shut, with his own Conservative Party inside it, by sucking up to Gilles Duceppe. What a moron Harper is, and more and more Canadians are waking up to that fact.
  2. Gotta love this Globe poll: Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 Which event will happen first? Same-sex marriage will be legalized 2394 votes (36 %) Marijuana will be decriminalized 391 votes (6 %) The Liberal government will be defeated 1967 votes (30 %) NHL hockey will return 1815 votes (28 %) Total Votes: 6567 Morning Smile What do you call someone who gets in top physical shape without the help of a coach or performance-enhancing drugs? Self taut. -- Paul Robertson Day, Kanata, Ont.
  3. Layton alleges Tory-Bloc plot This wasn't supposed to happen quite so quickly. This raw grab for power will ultimately backfire on both the Cons & the separatists. Oh, to be a fly on the wall wherever Cadman is! And Adrienne Clarkson is going to kick some ass - and guess who's ass it is going to be? Who has been attacking her and her role?
  4. Conservatives would not have bot any subs at all because after their ridiculous tax cuts for the rich, there would be no money left for our military endeavours. Obviously being in the military, even during peacetime, can be very hazardous as this recent tragedy has shown us. This is a time when all Canadians should be pulling together for the sake of the safety of the rest of the crew, and for the peace of mind for the family and friends of the departed sailor.
  5. Quite frankly, the world went to shit the day Reagan became President, a religious nut had taken over the most powerful country in the world. Bob Macdonald, CBC science reporter, was just intveriewed following a 500 delegate science reporter's conference in Montreal, and shared some results of a survey on Canadians and their media: Canadians responded when asked what categories were their priorities in receiving news from their media: 1 - Culture 2 - Science 3 - Business 4 - Politics 5 - Sports And then MacDonald went on to say what Canadians get as priorities, in what order, from their media: 1 - Business 2 - Sports 3 - Politics 4 - Culture 5 - Science So there you have it from the horse's mouth, ladies and gentlemen. Media is strictly a manipulation tool to get you to spend your hard-earned money, to buy products. My recommendation: Stop believing what you are told and what you read at least form our media!
  6. A guaranteed annual income would end all this nonsense about welfare, etc. Why won't the rich let it happen? Because they do NOT want to share their wealth, so they think by offering a GAI they will have to share more. I believe the opposite is true, government bureaucracy and costs would drop substantially, poor people would have some dignity again, and with better esteem, more will seek work. Don't think for a second we are not in a class war, the rich constantly trying to crush the poor.
  7. I'm sick of the US bellyaching about Canada, and the previous US Ambassador was the worst one in that role of the lot of them. Canada the perennial lapdog, role over boys and girls, is always there for the US - too bad the US is not always there for Canada. The more diversification we achieve in our trading partners the better off we will be, and we need to start kicking some US butt. Maybe when women take their rightful places in the corridors of power in this country, Canada might develop some backbone in their dealings with the Americans, rather that the sychophant positions of our current PM!
  8. Team Amber News Perhaps Air Force One could dangle George Bush on a rope, over the opening, just to make sure everything is OK down there.
  9. Gee whiz, golly guys, what are we going to do? Canada's Supreme Court almost has parity for women, our GG is a woman, and next year BC will have a woman, Carol James, for Premier. Is it time for men to be put out to pasture?
  10. Another Klein right winger - you seem to have the stench! This performance keeps getting repeated time and time again. Canadians are so thoroughly brainwashed by the right wing business community with their massive and relentless marketing BS, that when they hear another option they assume it is coming from the most despicible form of life to them, a social democrat. Welcome to the 21st century where just perhaps, with the internet, communications are going to get evened out in our society and future generation Canadians will not grow up with ridiculous assumptions that working people and unions are some evil parasites growing like cancers on our society. The only sick people around here are the rich who refuse to share their wealth yet try to promote the ridiculous idea they are good Christians.
  11. Public Works breaks Access to Information law on Earnscliffe Has anyone here heard about this, although with Liberal politics, nothing would surprise moi.
  12. Court approves settlement of U.S. lawsuits over Bre-X Minerals fraud What do you make of this?
  13. I rarely agree with anything coming out the mouth of Stephen Harper, but having said that, I agree with his comments today about Paul Martin acting totally inappropriately by not consulting with the opposition parties about the throne speech. This is arrogant Liberals politics, Martin will pay a huge price for governing like he has a majority, a big, big mistake, and I am really looking forward to the next election.
  14. That is unacceptable. Our soldiers couldnt fly a helicopter without crashing into the ground, and now they cant operate a submarine without it being left dead in the water. What's next, tanks exploding by itself? I just want to say that I am embarrassed to be a Canadian today. I wish to offer my condolences to our dead sailer's family and comrades as well. This is indeed a very sad day, a real tragedy. I too believe that this is unacceptable but for different reasons. How dare you blame Canadians for defective equipment from the UK? Canada should sue the ass off Britain including calling in the British Ambassador for a severe dressing down, and Canada should seriously begin to find ways to withdraw and to disassociate themselves militarily from the British & American warmongers.
  15. What a bunch of pompous asses these accountants and economists are. Canada has a minority government, right. But that was supposed to mean instability, people losing confidence in Canada, etc. Look at our rising dollar. People love this minority government - it is the best thing to hit Canada in 25 years. What a bunch of buffoons these money people are.
  16. Still climbing and canuck dolla now being recommended as a BUY by the big boys! Canadian Dollar Reaches 11-Yr High After Ivey Index Shows Gains
  17. Nonsense. At one time the canuck dollar was worth $US1.10, and life was good in Canada. So the rest of the population is supposed to suffer so that some fat cat business exporter can rest on his laurels. I don't think so. Competition is supposed to be good, it is the mantra of the business community, the best thing in the world according to the capitalists, except when it is competition directly for them, that is. What a bullshit system.
  18. There is a littlle more to it than that. The Liberals are in serious trouble provincewide. One would think that having won 58% of the vote in Surrey in the 2001 election, this by-election would be a piece of cake. But their fortunes have fallen so low they couldn't even get a contested nomination meeting, and have ended up with a nightmare scenario in their choice of candidate. Ask people in BC who is the m ost devisive person in the province and Mary Polak's name will be at the top, or very close to the top of the list. 'We've Lost Control of the Party'
  19. Last night canuck dolla closed at $US0.7927. Will it hit 80 cents this week? This is a very good sign for our Canadian economy, and for my trips to the US and abroad next year. I forecast a 85 cent canuck dolla soon, maybe by New Year's Eve.
  20. Kimmy.......I agree. Now that the plight of these First Nations women has been publicized by Amnesty, and given Canada a serious black eye, around the world, Canada had better start addressing the issue, before we get a second condemnation from them, a year from now. But it is also going to cost us additional in the pocketbook, and rightfully so. Maybe we will need to raise taxes to properly deal with this as well. I don't know of another world organization working in the area of human rights, that has more credibility than Amnesty International.
  21. Yea, I was reflected on that very same thing yesterday sipping on my latte grande watching the sun set over English Bay. As Trudeau once, or was it often, said: "The universe is unfolding as it should".
  22. The numbers of seats each party received is quite misleading due to the undemocratic nature of our voting process. For example the NDP increased the size of their popular vote by over 1,000,000 votes from the previous election, quite close to their all time highest amount of support, which shows the strength and appeal of their new leader Dr Jack Layton, who did not even have a seat in the House of Commons (he does now). The merger between the Alliance & PCs resulted in a substantial drop in Conservative support across the country. Overall it was the left-of-centre parties that really made the gains in support, although it didn't completely materialize in the respective number of seats.
  23. It is obvious there is still a lot of denial going on here in Canada with men in particular about women's rights. First Nation peoples are making progress but it is a very slow and difficult road to climb. If we can put a person on the moon, in other words if we make ending these abominable situations for our aboriginals a priority, we can solve the problem. and yea tough , it does take some money, so lose this" mash the poor mentality which results from lower taxes", and start acting like true Christians!
  24. Amnesty International report shames Canada for treatment of Native women I am appalled to hear that such a situation still exits in Canada after all we have been through concerning women's rights, etc. Obviously we still have a long way to go and this is not time to cut taxes while we still have peole in our country being subjected to these atrocities. We need to immediately increase taxes and get threse Inuit women some much needed support from our governments.
