Saskatoon police near 'mutiny' over Stonechild
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's hold the police officers responsible who are prepared to withhold their allegiance to their oath. I better question might be: Are police unions damaging the image of the union movement? My answer would be yes they are, and perhaps major unions might want to consider disaffiliating from them. I personally think they should disband the entire police force and only hire back those officers who are prepared to enrol in some serious sensitivity training. and no more hiring of "whitey male" until the force is representive of the community. -

Where you come off with spilling that kind of tripe is beyond me - it must part of your religious belief system. Tolerant indeed. As has already been stated social democrats mind their own business, but social conservatives can't seem to do that. What's their problem, eh? -
This exodus from the US could could have major benefits for Canada if a lot of progressive US citizens and people who are against war move up to Canada.

This has really rolled out of control but where is the outrage from the public, from the right wing, over this major abuse of position and power by the police? -

Is it time to disband the Saskatoon police force? -
Saskatoon police near 'mutiny' over Stonechild report I knew this would catch your attention. Until Canada's police forces learn to diversify their forces to represent all the cultures and all the visible minorities in society we will continue to have these probelms in our police departments. How long must we in Canada be subjected to this police state mentality similiar to the former South Africa?

I thought separatists loved the US people but hated the rest of Canada - what happened? Maybe Canada's not so bad after all, eh! -
Top Quebec judge sentenced for drinking, driving Why keep it a secret, eh? At least she had the good sense to step down from her role-model role she has in society unlike you know who. That is what I find the most distrubing. Some one who is in a role model position in our society should have the where-with-all, the wisdom to step down from their position after an event like this.

Some solutions for above: Unionize everyone Vacations based entirely on age run by federal government - why should someone who is 30 have more vaction than some that is 50? It is absurd. Executives are compensated with additional wages - that's enough! Pensions totally portable run entirely by federal government.

Business is up at Whistler in spite of rise in Canadian dollar. Some businesses will benefit and some won't. Overall this rise is good for most ordinary Canadians, and that is what matters - not the impact on the rich, nor the special interest groups. Let's celebrate!

NDP Gains the Most in Latest Poll (Nov 10/04)
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The NDP has gone from 4.6% support in the last federal election to 13% support now in Quebec. I think having a leader that was born in Quebec and Layton's position on the Clarity Act has made some inroads. I think Layton is on the right track, but I wonder what the NDP has to do now to increase that support even more in Quebec, so that it will materialize into seats in the next federal election. -

The Atlantic Region has usually backed the Liberals, or governing party, being dependent on equalization payments. The NDP had a bit of strength there when the NDP leader was from Halifax. -

Overall, since the election, The NDP has gained: 4.5% on the Conservatives 3.7% on the Bloc and 2.2% on the Liberals. Not too shabby a performance now, impacted by having our leader Jack layton in the House of Commons! -

Canadian Dollar Holds Above 83 U.S. Cents for 4th Straight Day If this is such a disaster for the Canadian dolla to rise like this, why doesn't the Bank of Canada lower interest rates? Obviously they are not that concerned.

I agree with MS here........Carol James is in bed with all union leadership in BC....... Yup, Carol James wants to represent ordinary working people, students, and seniors. Imagine that. Always get a chuckle when I hear people complain about elections and unions. Have you ever done a comparison between the amount of money corporations donate compared to unions in an election campaign? What is the spending ratio: 5 to 1, 10 to 1, in favour of corporations? I agree with what Chretien did federally which was to eliminate the process where elections could be bot by large corporation donations, or unions for that matter. Campbell has a massive majority government, so why doesn't he do the same thing in BC? Yup Carol James is in bed with unions. That's why Judy Darcy lost her nomination to a small businessperson. And that's why the NDP's candidate in the recent by-election in Surrey Panorama Ridge was from the business community.

Social democrats are what Canada is all about. Time to get used to it. The difference between social democrats and social conservatives is that social democrats are tolerant of our differences, and social conservatives are not. No one is trying to tell social conservatives what to do, but social conservatives want to tell others what to do. Sorry but that is not going to wash. -
Report on tuition impact slammed It is always interestin' when we ask the clients their opinion, instead of the vested interests. It is absolute bullshit to suggest that people with less income will have better access to university if tuition fees are not lowered. That is why tuition fees need to be abolished just like all medical service fees in Canada. If we would just close the loopholes, and repair Canada's taxation system, and stop letting the rich scam the system, these financial shortfalls could easily be overcome.

Surrey Panorama Ridge BC By-Election
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I agree. I think the federales should pull the financial plug on any proivince that is dicking around with private clinics, or not living up to national standards, and that goes for Quebec as well. And then if the provinces protest too much, ask Canadian if they want Ottawa to operate medicare, and put it to a national referedum at the same time of the next federal election. Who cares whether or not it is a provincial matter. The constitution is way too outdated these days anyways. -
Do you remember the conditions when James was elected leader? No one gave the NDP any chance of forming the next government. Now that the NDP has a good chance of winning the next election in BC, James deserves a lot of the credit for the NDP turnaround. So far James' strategy is working quite well, and if she is able to keep the NDP on message, that they are good for ordinary BCers, the NDP stands a good chance of winning. The NDP however is more than one person, although the leader is the face that most people get to know during an election campaign. But for those of you who think labour with not be four-square behind the NDP, you are sadly mistaken. Labour will be supporting the NDP in the coming election like they never had before. If you have any doubts about that just look at labour's involvement in the recent Surrey Panorama Ridge by-election. That was considered a very safe Liberal seat and look what happened. Not too shabby for James' first kick at the can. As long as Campbell is their leader I am not sure there are very many safe Liberal seats in BC any more. Just see how many Liberals have announced they are not running again. The key for BCers in the next election will be to remove Campbell from office. That will be the overriding priority for most voters in May, 2005.
