  1. The reality is that Canada and the US are diverging more and more every day. We have different values. The problem with Bush's re-election is the same as when Reagan was elected. It brings all the kooks out into the open because now they feel they have a right to spew their venom. Good examples are the social conservative that was on Don Newman's show today, and providing war mongers like David Frum airtime. It is not anti-US, it is just pro-Canadian. Times have changed, and the US needs to start paying attention to the changing world, and to what is going outside its borders.
  2. Is Ned Flanders keeping George Bush in the White House? Interestin' comments by the NDP spokesperson.
  3. Dollar heads for dramatic decline If I were an investor and wanted to find a safe place for my investments, I would now, because of the rapidly expanding US deficit under the Bush/GOP, have to seriously re-consider whether it is now still safe to invest in US dolla investments.
  4. The NDP's New Face for Business Finally NDPers are begining to see the light, and are realizing you have to gain power, if you are going to effect meaningful change. There has been this constant battle from the beginning in the the NDP over whether or not they want to be the moral compass of the nation. Thank goodness they have chosen to reject that crap, and plan to go for the gusto from now on. You can feel the shift in the party as it moves more to the centre to win future elections.
  5. Harper must be laughing today about how he snookered those social conservatives into voting for him last June. Don Newman interviewed the social conservative leader in Canada today, and he was practically foaming at the mouth about how let down he feels by the Harper Conservatives. Then Janet Ecker (sp?) a conservative strategist, came on and completely contradicted what the social conservative rep said. Ecker said that Conservatives always lose when the get caught up in social conservative issues, that conservatives should stick to economic issues if they want to win. The upcoming conserrvative convention should be hilarious.
  6. I doubt anyone here is a scientific expert in this field. The only reason to oppose what the overwhelming majority in the scientific community says on this issue is the greed factor. If that is your reason fine, but at least be friggin' honest about it.
  7. Oil price dive deepens as supplies swell Some folks are just good forecasters, aren't they! Interesting how the dolla, price of gold, and the price of oil are jumping around these days. One might almost suspect that they were being manipulated.
  8. Both the Democratic Party and the Republician Party policies represent the weathy in society. Both Bush & Kerry, their presidential candidates, supported the War in Iraq. If you check carefully there is no basic difference.
  9. I don't think it is very useful to keep posting incorrect figures.
  10. I have an investment proposal for all right-of-centre investors. Go out and buy US dolla: Fleeing the U.S. Dollar
  11. Flight to quality II Paul Wells must either be a good researcher, or has a good researcher, as his comments are rarely knee-jerk reactions, but based more on factual information. I agree that the biggest concern about these currency gyrations are the possibility of a US dolla crash.
  12. One does not have to be a health care expert, whatever that means, to understand basic math. Private means profits or bankruptcy. To suggest that doing something in the private sector is a better deal financially is absurd as profits have to built into the actual costs. Romanov has offered a process to fix medicare which most Canadians support. Let's get on with it.
  13. Wrong once again. Both political parties in the US represent material interests. `Moral values'not behind Bush win
  14. Religion is OK when people are singing songs in a choir, etc. but that's about it. Most of its other actions end up being a very destructive force in society. For example to suggest Jesus, in today's world, would be against abortion, is one of the sick offshoots of today's religions. Quite frankly anyone who believe that stuff is a nutbar, and needs to be loooked up in a mental institution.
  15. we shall see the reign of witches pass over I agree with Barbra although she could have used a bit better terminology to make her point. Witches sound pretty good to me these days!
  16. Toute la gang, even my own! Religion should be treated like drugs, you have to into dark back alleys, out of sight, to discuss them. A good beginning would be to cancel the religious tax exemptions - that would tone down these nutbars quite a bit!
  17. There is one reason why bush won - most people did not see a difference of any consequence between Bush & Kerry. Similiar to Canada's PM Martin & Harper. We should begin to start using the new terminology though - Jesusland and the United States of Canada. Although we bitch about the involvement of church and state do we really believe that they have not been intertwined since Day One? It is just a bit more blatant now. how many of Canada's prime ministers have beeen Roman Catholic? no wonder we are in a mess on both sides of the current border!
  18. Do Quakers consider themsleves Christians? They are not too bad I think.
  19. If you tried responding to the question instead of the personal putdowns you might develop a bit more credibility here.
  20. The Church that Forgot Christ Driving home this evening I listened to Michael Enright interview Jimmy Breslin, the US journalist and author - do any of you know about Jimmy? Anyway it was a fascinating interview about how sick, corrupt, and actually evil the Roman Catholic church is. Breslin said the current Pope has 4 things on his mind abortion, abortion, abortion, and Poland. What in the world do these old men with no or grey hair have to say to women, people who are married, etc. Breslin held out his harshest criticism for the Irish roman Catholics, he is one BTW, whom he said were a bunch of sheep. My opinion is that it is not only the Roman Catholic Church that has lost its way but all the organized Christian religion institutions. Do we need to abolish them completely before they do too much more destruction to our societies?
  21. August1991......why do you continually post incorrect data here at mapleleafweb? Please correct your figures.
  22. I think the Green party has some good ideas, but their supporters need to know that voting Green will not defeat the BC Campbell Liberals in the next election in May, 2005.
  23. Uh...when else would you use an exit poll? Sure gather the data at elections, but use it later, not during voting day.
  24. Every day, whenever I see or hear something about what is going on in the US I appreciate Canada, Canadians, and what Canada represents more and more. US must be carved like a turkey - pundits I think anyone who lives outside Jesusland would be very welcome in Canada.
  25. And it's good to see the NDP ahead of the Cons in the Atlantic region. Interestin' times ahead. And if you want to see who really controls politics in this country - check out Navigator Political Junkies
