  1. Trudeau said: "The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation". Why can't the religious crazies respect that?
  2. My Dad was in World War 11. The war affected him, how much I am not really sure, as I did not know him before the war. But he was never a healthy man after the war. I will go to Remeberance Day Services tomorrow out of my love and respect for my Dad. But I will not be going to celebrate the war mongers or the people who believe in war. My Dad did not believe in war either, nor did he hate the Germans - he gave me a book once called the Fifth Wheel. It was supposedly a fiction about a US family who had a manufacturing plant who have five kids. The fifth kid watched as the family plant switched from whatever they were manufacturing, to manufacturing munitions or weapons. He saw the war coming long before the other members in his family did, and was worried about his own children having to go into a manfactured war.
  3. Did it ever occur to you that your heroes might not be my heroes?
  4. Madness in Holland I think everyone posting here should read this. /85
  5. The guy is dead and he can't do any more harm to anyone. Why can't he be buried where he wanted to be buried?
  6. You might change your tune if you were living in Holland, and you may change your tune if violence erupts in Canada. I'm just talking about taking some preventative medicine.
  7. People need to learn the language of the country they move to, to help prevent them from being ghettoized or isolated. I know if I were hanging around with a bunch of Quebeckers in BC and they started talking about bombing a building in downtown Vancouver, there would probably be a lot more chance of my reporting it to the authorities if I spoke English as well as French.
  8. No, people should be free to move to where they wish to live. The US is doomed. I thought you believed in freedom.
  9. No one is telling you what you should do or shouldn't do, so why can you not leave other people alone to do what they wish with their life. Who has appointed you God?
  10. Don't you think we have had enough problems with the friction between Quebec and the rest of Canada? Canada/Quebec has had its moments of violence. Certainly not knowing the other's language can exacerbate these problems especially when gotten hold of by demagogues.
  11. Arafat Forced His People's Plight Into the World Spotlight Even in his death there are tensions surrounding his burial location. Someone needs to kick Israel's ass!
  12. Another Gordon Campbell first: Food bank use by B.C. children up 42 per cent this year, report says
  13. Is Klein backing off on his position against same-sex marraige? Alta's Klein reiterates stand against gay marriage may change if voters wish This is very bizarre.
  14. The reasons simple, the small business guy, most likely understands that conditions that allow big business to do well, are also the same for small business. Wrong. Small business thrive in a competitive environment, muntinationals thrive in a monopolistic environment.
  15. These attacks in Holland were not caused by voodoo, Maple Syrup. Holland is a member of the "Coalition of the Willing". That's the reason. August you are wrong. Read up on the reasons for the tensions in Holland. They have religious nuts preaching violence in a foreign language, and there were some Dutch people, a relative of van Goth amongst them, who antagonised the Muslims. It had nothing to do with "The US Allies in Iraq". We need to keep a close watch on voodoo in Canada no matter what religion it is called.
  16. The NDP, if it aspires to be the federal government some day needs to represent ordinary Canadians, from the business community, and from labour unions, and elsewhere as well. One thing that always amazes me is the connection between small business owners and the multinational executives. If you check the income tax laws there is no connection, and small business owners would be much better off, breaking away from the multinational executives, and lobbying on their own. They have almost nothing in common. It seems that the NDP is getting that message and is opening its doors wide open to the small business community. Good on them!
  17. Regardless, perhaps it is taxing our police forces too much to have to worry about religious services in foreign languages that they do not understand. If people move to Canada, we have two official languages they are welcome to use for public events such as a religious service, schools, etc. No one should be learning another language in Canada until they have mastered English & French. We are very tolerant yes, but sometimes we go too far. and religious institutions with their voodoo beliefs, need to be kept on a very short leash. I just heard someone comment on the CBC that God wanted that woman with the 7-8 children in Welland, Ontario, to die. Give me a friggin' break.
  18. Harper will do anything that he thinks will get him elected. Now that polls are out showing that the majority of Canadians support the NDP on missle defence or Star Wars: Tories soften support of U.S. shield But Harper refuses to spell out policy SEAN GORDON CanWest News Service November 10, 2004
  19. For Dutch, anger battles with tolerance This should prove to be a real eye-opener for Canada.
  20. Police end 15-hour standoff with suspected radicals in The Hague Link to religious nuts? We'll see! Is Canada going to sit idly by and wait for something similar to happen here, or are we going to be pro-active and just a bit wise, by learning from Holland's unfortunate circumstances?
  21. I highly doubt that this would be the approach that Jesus would advocate, but that another story, isn't it!
  22. Canada bends over backwards to accommodate the cultural backgrounds of immigrants, but should we insist that religious services be conducted in one of Canada's two official languages? The reason the Netherlands are exploring this issue is that apparently religious zealots are preaching violence in a foreign language in the religious institutions in Holland. Netherlands Grapples with Violence, Religious Tensions
  23. Place Half-Million Tons of Garbage Here? Canadians need to start seriously addressing the issue of garbage, recycling, etc. Every city block in Canada could be set up with a common composting area, and producers are going to have to take a lot more responsibility for packaging, recycling, etc.
  24. I thought we were all Canadians or at least all human beings!
  25. Policing the modern city, Part 1 Sewell is onto something here. We are asking police to do work they are ill equipped to do, with the least effective tool for these situations - a gun!
