Very few have a clue about what is in the food they eat. And that is the producers fault, because of their lack of proper labeling. Most packaging is designed to conceal and deceive. Why is it very time I go grocery shopping I feel like I am dealing with the enemy?

NDP urges ban on trans fats I think this is a good idea and support it. Our food producers/industry act like they have no responsibility about the ramifications concerning the food we eat, yet they they spend billions of dollars every year trying to manipulate us into eating their products. Why don't they take a few million and help us to educate ourselves about what is going on? It is almost impossible to figure out what the ingredients are, of their products, what they weigh, with their one day metric, the next day pounds and ounces. Why can't we adopt the metric system and get it over with?

Jailed Palestinian to run to replace Arafat What do we know about him? Like Sharon we know he is a terrorist. I wonder why countries pick violent people to lead them? No wonder they have trouble establishing peace in their areas!

National Child Care Going Ahead

caesar....you have a one-track mind. Thank goodness for Quebec and its joie de vive. Don't worry, the politicians in Quebec don't really represent the ordinary Quebeckers, anymore than they do in the rest of Canada. -
Tolerant Dutch Wrestle With Tolerating Intolerance I never thought I would see this kind of situation happen in Holland, and if it is happeneing there, it could happen in Canada as well. We are going to have to be vigilant as well as moderate in our response to such behaviour if we don't want to deterioriate into the gutter.

Alberta NDP produces Health Care for Dummies booklet for Premier Ralph Klein I would imagine that this is the issue - only in Alberta would a premier get away with this crap, eh!.

Offshore Drilling Divides B.C.'s North Oh wow, I bet the people of Northern BC can hardly wait for those 27 jobs, and the potential of all that pollution. What is it with us Canadians that have a tendency to role over and play dead when corporations say they are going to come into their neck of the woods with these get rich quick schemes? The head of the inquiry is from the oil industry so I am sure we are going to get an unbiased report, eh!

Saskatoon police near 'mutiny' over Stonechild

Maybe they should let security officers take over police work, eh! It would be a lot cheaper. Man Opens Fire at Eiffel Tower; 3 Wounded -
For the children Quebec has a great child care program, and has had one for years now. So what's up with the rest of Canada's premiers? Why are they stonewalling this program that can only be good for Canada's children and their financially strapped parents?

Cartman...maybe this is the way to do it. It is a novel approach and I like it. If "male whitey" thinks he has had problems resolving the land claim disputes in BC, he ain't seen nothing yet. Bold Goal: 250 First Nations PhDs in Five Years

Why was there no autopsy performed on Arafat especially when one of his doctors suspected that he may have been poisoned? 'I think Arafat was poisoned' Maybe even more importantly, why is this issue not being pursued in the media, eh!

Horrific Crash On Trans Canada Highway
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
caesar....why are you twisting things around? Someone was complaining about a bus driver being drunk and I believe I heard on the radio that he/she had been fired. Someone was creating a safety hazzard for others, both passengers and other drivers who share the road, and they were removed from their position to eliminate the safety hazzard. -
If we chose to discuss a topic that is our business or are you the thought police. I would hazzard a guess that most of the people who posted or read the computer browser, etc. thread were finding it helpful and useful.

Horrific Crash On Trans Canada Highway

Now that is constructive input. Who cares about some previous government? The current BC Campbell Liberal government is our government and currently responsible, and they have had a massive majority for three years to deal with things like this. We don't need any more excuses from them as they gave handouts to the rich, at the expense of our schools, health care, roads, etc. -

If you put an entire community into the trades they would be laughing all the way to the bank. Of course there are other things besides money in life, but it sure is great to be able to earn a decent living, and support a family. The system is fucked. We will be importing trades people in BC for sure over the next decade. It is somewhat similiar to the doctor and nurse shortages except for different reasons.

Horrific Crash On Trans Canada Highway

Gee I wonder where what's his name, Transportation Minister Falcon, the brilliant mastermind of the BC Campbell Liberals failed campaign in Surrey Panorama Ridge is in all this. Maybe he should come out of hiding, eh! But no, he will probably stay hidden until the West Vancouver councillors shame him into appearing. How many accidents has there been at this location in the last three years? Quite a few I would hazzard a guess. -
I think it is quite simple what the problem is of getting people going into the trades. It is the career counsellors in the high schools. How many of them do you think went to university as opposed to learning a trade? It is a bullshit system where trades are discouraged or put down as being dirty or whatever. Snobbery is alive and well in Canada. It is a real shame because many young kids are being deprived of a decent future.

Horrific Crash On Trans Canada Highway
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
caesar....you are overdoing it, no one is attacking truck drivers. Sudden death is dramatic. Truck drivers have unions my ass. Maybe a few of them do, but that is what is one of the major problems in the trucking industry, the lack of unionization, which means lack of safety, both for the drivers and the car drivers who share the roads, etc. And I think the bus driver was fired. The police say the source of the lumber is questionable. I don't know much about the logging industry but is there not supposed to be some identification on the logs? They are also looking at the second vehicle which was following the one that was in the crash. I think it might have been taken off the road, and not allowed to continue to Pt Alberni, its destination. That curve on the road is tricky and perhaps need to be rebuilt. -
Horrific Crash On Trans Canada Highway

pff.... you are off on some weird tangent. My problem is with the size of the trucks compared to the size of cars on our busy roads, not the truck drivers who are just trying to earn a living under quite difficult circumstances. And apparently the driver has a clean driving record. The government needs to regulate the situation, but don't expect the BC Campbell Liberals to do anything with their anything goes laissez-faire policy, until we have an absolute crisis on our hands. After seeing that accident some people might think the crisis point has arrived.
