eureka.....good post. I couldn't agree more. And I don't see any meaningful changes taking place until there is violence on the streets. Just look at the attitude of the right wing posters here at mapleleafweb. The only solution to these social problems is to have a guaranteed annual income, however there is way too much meanness in our society for that to become a reality. At least in forseable future. That is why I am always amused when I here Canadians say that we have a Christian society here in Canada. Our hugh gap between the rich and the poor is the very thing that Jesus preached against. It is the biggest con job that has ever been perpetuated on people anywhere. It is always the rich crushing the poor.

Cartman.....yes the Cons are the "Republican Party North" I think the reason people, not all, but a lot of people who vote for the Cons is that they have a Canadian inferiority complex. They have spent too much time watching US TV and have been brainwashed into believing everying Canadian is bad, and everything from the US is good. These are the kind of people that will cheer President Bush snubbing our Canadian Parliamentiarians on his visit to Ottawa next week. And it is very sad!

Mum's the word, says the world Fathers didn't even make it to the top 70 in people's favourite choice of words. What do you think of this survey? What is your favourite English word?

Canadian dolla breaks $US 0.85 and POG breaks US$ 450. to $451.35. (This is a new 16 year high, and breaks through the psychological barrier of 450.) Silver US$ 7.64 I am going to forecast now that the Canadian dollar is going to reach par with the US dollar. Nothing succeeds like success, eh!. As the Canadian dollar appreciates more and more investors will consider investing and holding Canadian dollars. One thing about prices, usually when they fall, they fall a lot quicker than they rise. Has anyone ever done short selling in the stock market? /985

Nowhere in the article does it define what the "child poverty rate" means. The article says that it "stands at 15 per cent".15 per cent of what? It is this kind of silly use of statistics that usually mean I stop reading an article. If the writer cannot cite data in a meaningful way, then I take that as evidence of poor thinking. ---- As to the issue of child poverty, Indian and Northern Affairs has an annual budget (2001-2) of about $5 billion and there are roughly 700,000 registered Indians. That amounts to about $7000/person. I think it is fair to say that the greatest child poverty in Canada is among our aboriginal population. I will let these statistics speak for themselves. Turn that money over to the First Peoples and let them run their own affairs. Those figures are nonsense as the First Peoples never ever see that kind of money. We probably need a guaranteed annual income of $10,000. - $15,000. for a single person living alone. We don't need rich people represented by the Fraser Institute defining what is poor or not poor.

This is probably what is really behind another US scam; this time to steal Canada's water: Blue Gold -
Child poverty: setting new goals How sad that our government has allowed all these people driving around in their big cars, living in their big homes, watching their big TVS, eating their big meals, to avoid their collective responsibility to Canada's children.

Of course the PSBGM was at fault. Why compare them to the pathetic Catholic School Board. They are both at fault. To suggest that they graduated a high number of bilingual graduates is nonsense. The PSBGM was so out of touch with Quebec society they imported French teachers from France. It was patheric, almost bordering on racism. I remember a restaurant chain called Murrays. They only changed their menus to bilingual ones after the bombes went off. The English community in Quebec, with their head in the sand approach have helped to create the linguistic divisions that are now apparent in Canada. Just learn French and stop whining. The majority of Canadians are sick of it. -
The number one recommendation of the anti-poverty groups to deal with this crisis is to raise the minimum wage to $10. across Canada. Dryden has been had by the Martinites.

It looks like the New Democrats are going to have to kick ass to get this national child care program off the ground. The best way at this point is for them to shame the Liberals into action.

Meet NAFTA on Steroids Under the pretext of national secuirty, the right wing with PM Martin has taken over, and now will sell us out. All the values and ideals that we cherish in Canada are going to flushed down the toilet. What a bunch of pathetic wimps we have in control of our Canadian government these days.

So the shoe is now on the other foot. Boo! Hoo! For years francophones had to learn English to get a job in Quebec. Now the situation is reversed. Tough! Where were you when the abuses were going on in Quebec a long time ago, that only basically changed when the bombs started going off? If you want to blame somebody for the linguistic problems in Canada today, blame the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, who didn't even ensure that its graduates spoke the langauge of the majority in Quebec. And btw, Ottawa with its unilingualism is a national embarassment and disgrace. No wonder Quebec wants to separate. Good on McGuinty to smell the roses! Time to turn off your Fox News and to stop reading the National Post - both of them part of the evil media empire. -
Is the Annexation of Canada part of Bush's Military Agenda? The US doesn't have to annex us, as we give them whatever they want. Countries hardly matter anymore; it is all done through the transnationals.

Fraser can't give final total on CSL business with government This whole CSL situation with our Canadian government is beginning to stink. I hope there are some good investigative journalists working on this.

Pro-Kremlin PM Declared Winner In Ukraine Vote

Ukraine Liberal Calls for Strike Over Poll Result What's bizarre about this situation is that the US is backing some "liberal" politician as opposed to the fascist regimes they usually support. Oh well, anything to piss off the Ruskies, eh! -
Look at the Canadian dollar now: US$0.8494 And silver US$7.60

I have often thought David Frum was a Canadian national embarassment. Yassar Arafat won the Nobel Peace prize. How convenient it is for us to forget. If you wish to talk about incompentency, you don't have to look farther than the US administration, that apparently were offered 10 opportunities to capture bin Laden.

Dollar plumbs new lows on talk of central bank selling Canadian dolla up again, presently worth US$0.8473 POG US$449. at the moment. I expect we will be seeing spikes in both these prices in the near future.

Bin Laden seeks bomb, ex-CIA analyst warns Two things stand out for me in this article - location of Quebec & that the CIA notified the US administration 10 times of bin Laden's whereabouts. One would think the US would want to get this fella before he gets them. All very strange.

Dollar Weakens as Russia Weighs Shifting Its Holdings to Euros I wonder if this is a bluff or are the Russians really going to divest itself of some of its US dolla. This looks like there is going to be attempt to up the ante, by putting pressure on the US. Will the US succumb? Can they realistically do anything? I have my doubts.

The key point of Frum's article was AIDS. He knew it was a trigger word in society, and used it on purpose. Yea, right, let's shoot the messanger here, and blame the newspaper reporter. Nonsense, the reporter was doing his/her job.
